The most successful machine ever builtby Silca

Building on the success that made the Matrix the most successful machine ever built by Silca, the brand new Matrix EVO & PRO take laser and dimple key duplication to a new level of ease, safety and precision.

Starting with the Matrix EVO (which replaces the S & SX model) we have a unique jaw mechanism which has two positions to allow keys with offset profiles such as HU66 to be held securely and without the need for adaptors. The entire jaw base can be tilted +/- 45 degrees to allow for angled cuts. A new and much more spacious tool holder now provides room for all cutters and tracers, code adaptors and accessories. An LED lighting system ensures the work area is clear. Improved safety comes in the form of a better shield, integrated power cut-off device (in case of mains failure), and a Z-axis lever interlocking power-trigger button which meets tough new regulations in Europe. Stepping up to the pinnacle of high security duplicating machines is the Matrix PRO, which replaces the SLX. Featuring all the innovations found on the EVO, plus a tubular-key compatible jaw (great for saving space in tight workshops or vans), and the highly popular easy-release chuck mechanism means no fumbling for an allen key to release the cutter or tracer. The LED lighting system is now proximity sensing, lighting up when you put your hand near the jaws. Chrome highlights add a further touch of style. Both machines share the famous slide roller bearing table mechanisn (you have to try it to believe it), and the ball bearing X/Y axis movement lever ensures the carriage moves where you want it. The electromechanical Z-axis calibration remains, allowing you to set the cutter & tracer height precisely and easily.

Automotivesolutions

Often we get asked what transponder chips should be used in certain vehicles. The Silca Car Book 3, is a very helpful resource available to make life easier.

This guide lists cars by make model and year, and shows what transponder ID the vehicle uses and the recommended Silca chip (T7, T19, etc). If no chip is listed and the field is blank, then an OEM key is required.

You will notice that most cars are listed twice, one after the other. One tells you what key/chip to use for diagnostic programming, the other tells you if the key can be cloned onto EH2/MH heads with your RW4.

Also there is other helpful information such as code generation (STP) so you can write necessary logic onto some chips with your Silca RW4, to prepare for diagnostic programming.

If you do not have a copy please feel free to contact your account manager.

What’s happening outside the workshop

S&G training day

On Wednesday September 19, 2012, LSCNZ were proud to host a one-day training seminar for the latest range of S&G Electronic Safe Locks. The session was conducted by the S & G Regional Manager – South Asia, Scott Stufflebeam, who delivered a detailed and comprehensive talk on the intricacies of the new S & G products. The LSCNZ training room was set up cinema – style, with an overhead projector delivering brilliant graphics onto the big, wide screen. Every attendee was provided with their own electronic lock to operate, so they really got the full hands-on practical experience. The manic beeping noise filtering through to the sales office was intense, to say the least!

The seminar was well attended by twenty locksmiths from all over the North Island plus an impressive appearance by one of our lady locksmiths from Richmond in the South Island. Attendees were greeted by our Dawn Wallington for registration and then they enjoyed hot tea and coffee in our showroom and had the opportunity to mingle and get to know each other.

®

In true LSC style, our guests were well fed and watered throughout the day, enjoying tea and coffee on arrival, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.

Special mention to both Scott E. Stufflebeam for an excellent talk and for taking the trouble to come all the way from Bangkok to see us. Thanks also to Scott Pascoe, S&G Product Manager for bringing many S&G units across the Tasman. Goodness only knows what he said to Customs at Auckland International Airport! Thanks also to the LSCNZ staff, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help set the whole thing up.

Product training days like this are a trademark of LSC, whose mission is to present the most comprehensive range of quality products to its customers and to offer the best possible training from some of the most knowledgeable people in the industry. Speak to your Account Manager today to register your interests in future training courses.

Showbus hits Central North Island

In August the show bus was travelling around the central North Island, kicking off in Katikati before moving onto the lovely beaches of Mt Maunganui and Tauranga where the mobile locksmiths had a chance to catch up and play with the amazing toys in the bus.

Then it headed inland to orchard and kiwi fruit heaven, Te Puke. Next stop was the steamy sulphur city of Rotorua – land of bubbling mud pools and geysers. As you can see, the show bus carries refreshments, and the LSC boys are happy to finish the day with a beer and a chat.

Onwards to Taupo, big lake city and trout capital of NZ enroute to Tongariro and the stunning Chateau Tongariro Hotel, overlooked by the slumbering volcano Mt Ruapehu.

Thanks to all those customers who took the time to visit the showbus on its tour of the Central North Island.

Maintenance of ABUS Rock padlocks

All too often we receive complaints from customers regarding 83/55, 83/60 or 83/80 Rock padlocks rusting, seizing up or the shackles falling out. These problems are entirely preventable and should be pre-empted at the time of sale by advising the customer that the padlocks require periodic cleaning and lubrication throughout their working lives, they are made from steel and steel rusts if it doesn’t receive regular maintenance.

Just prior to assembly at the factory, the internal components and the interior compartments of the padlock are coated with a thin industrial lubricant. This lubricant is not intended to last forever. Once the padlock is put to work, it should be re-lubricated with WD40 or white Lithium aerosol grease, or similar, every few months. The frequency of this lubrication really depends on the climate and application in which the padlocks are working.

What actually causes the padlocks to malfunction is a build-up of sediment in the ball chamber, which is a result of dust and dirt from the outside adhering to the original lubricant. Eventually, the dust and dirt causes the lubricant to dry up and then the rusting process begins. It doesn’t take much longer for the sediment to cause the locking ball bearings to jam either in the open position, which can cause the shackle to fall out, or in the closed position, which prevents the key from operating the ball driver. When the padlock has reached this level of contamination, the only remedy is to strip it completely and thoroughly clean all the internal components, the shackle stem and spring and the key cylinder chamber. Cleaning should be done with a solvent and when that is done and everything has dried out, the components should be re-coated with a lubricant and then the padlock can be re-assembled.

Advise your customer to carry out regular lubrication and it is unlikely that there will ever be a problem with the padlock malfunctioning in the future. If you are unsure about how to re-assemble these padlocks, let us know and we can fax you an instruction sheet. Alternatively, email [email protected] and we will email you the easy-to-follow assembly instructions.

Advise your customer to carry out regular lubrication and it is unlikely that there will ever be a problem….

LSC’s Pat Quinn explains how to get the best out of your ABUS Rock padlocks

The picture above is an example of a steel padlock that was seized solid with rust & sediment. It was soaked overnight in solvent and then stripped. All the components were cleaned and the padlock was re-assembled with a light coating of Lithium grease applied to all the parts. If it receives a periodic dose of WD40, or similar, it will continue to function perfectly for years.
