STEWARDSHIP SHARING TIME, TALENT AND
TREASURE
FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Dear Friends, The demands of discipleship are great, but with God’s grace they do not become burdensome. After all, our role model, Jesus Christ, is Himself meek and humble of heart. Zechariah prophecies that he will come, not on a warhorse with force and weapons, but on a beast of burden, offering peace and justice. Saint Paul assures us that God’s Spirit dwells in us. We should rightly sing in the psalm 145, “I will praise your name forever.” Go forth then, as you have heard the Lord Jesus call you. Support one another in your formation in the Catholic way of life; take the words of Christ into your heart and learn to turn to Him more readily in time of need. Do not be afraid or too lazy to pick up the Scriptures and read them; they are filled with wisdom and grace! I want to take this moment to express my gratitude to Father Kiernan as he prepares to take up his new mission in Stowe. We will miss him dearly but promise him our support and prayers as he leaves us this week. Father, you have the key to the rectory, come home anytime you need to rest. You are always welcome!!
Faithfully,
Father Cioppi

Dear parishioners, The Diocese of Philadelphia is blessed with five newly ordained priests. These men are witnesses of perseverance and courage for seminarians at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. I was hesitant of going to an invited first Mass because of concern of being exposed to the virus. By the grace of God, I was grateful to participate in the young, newly ordained priest as he celebrated his first mass with his family, friend priests and brother seminarians. On Monday June 29th, the Church celebrated the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles. Saint Paul converted from persecutor to Christian after his encountering with Jesus, and became a prominent evangelist of the Church. He traveled distances proclaiming the Resurrection and the Gospel. Saint Peter was one of first Apostles called to become a fisher of men for Jesus. He was chosen to become the rock upon which God built the Church. The Vocation office of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary organized a 3-day virtual retreat “Quo Vadis” from Monday Junes 29th to Wednesday July 1st for high school men. On July 1st, seminarians and campers gathered in person for a Eucharistic Procession here at MDP parish. The procession was live-streamed via Zoom. We are invited to pray for these young men to heed the call to priesthood. Have a wonderful summer with family and friends. Your seminarian, Phong.
LOOKING FOR SOME SUMMER READING AND DISCUSSION? Deacon Greg has put together his summer reading list and he’s looking for parishioners who would like to participate by reading and discussing the materials with him and others. The list includes some short stories of the well-known Catholic author Flannery O’Connor and a letter from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
entitled Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love - A Pastoral Letter Against Racism. Depending upon the interest there will be day and evening sessions offered. The discussions will be held via conference and/or video calls. Please contact Deacon Greg by email at [email protected] or leave a message at the parish office (610) 265-4178 for more information.

Due to current conditions, uncertain restrictions of the entertainment and amusement business, and our concern for the safety of our Parishioners, we have had to make the decision to cancel the 2020 MDP Carnival. While we know this is sad news for our Parish families, please know that our committee is looking at other possible events that can bring us together as a community, once we move into the green phase restrictions. Please stay tuned for details on future events. We look forward to bringing back our MDP Carnival September 2021.
Focus on Religious Freedom Celebrating "Religious Freedom Week"
June 22-29
By the time of the American Revolution, 1776, our nation's founders embraced Freedom of Religion as an essential condition of a free and democratic society.
James Madison, often called the Father of the Constitution,
described conscience as "the most sacred of all property" and "the Religion then of every man must be left to the conviction and conscience of every
man...(1) George Washington wrote that "the
establishment of Civil and Religious Liberty was the Motive that induced me to the field of
battle." (2) Thomas Jefferson assured the Ursuline
Sisters - who had been serving a mostly non-Catholic population in Louisiana since 1727 by running a hospital, an orphanage, and schools - that their Ministry would be free "to govern itself according to its own voluntary rules, without
interference from the civil authority." (3)
Therefore, when the Bill of Rights was ratified in 1791, religious freedom had the distinction of being the First Amendment. Our founders believed religious liberty is, indeed, the first liberty. The First Amendment guarantees, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."
Recently, in a unanimous Supreme Court judgment affirming the importance of the First Freedom, Chief Justice Roberts explained that religious liberty is not just the first freedom for Americans; it is the first in the history of democratic freedoms, tracing its origins back to the first clauses of the Magna Carta of 1215. Chief Justice Roberts cited an 1806 judgement involving the first Catholic bishop in the U.S., in which James Madison stated, the "scrupulous policy of the Constitution is guarding against a political interference with religious affairs" and this prevented the government from rendering
an opinion on Church matters.(4)
Our American heritage and most cherished freedom is Freedom of Religion because if we are not free in our conscience and practice of religion, all other freedoms are fragile. If our obligations and duties to God are contradicted by the government, then we can no longer claim to be a land of the free, and
a beacon of hope for the world. (5)

A PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS God our Father, who wills that all men be saved and come to the knowledge of Your Truth: We beg You to send Laborers into Your harvest, and grant them grace to speak Your Word with all boldness; so that Your Word may spread and be glorified, and all nations may know You, the only God, and Him whom You have sent, Jesus Christ Your Son, Our Lord, Amen.

During this time of social distancing, routines have been interrupted. You can still order Scrip and remain socially distant. The best ways to do this is to go to www.greatlakesscrip.com and reload your existing cards. You can order Electronic Cards as well. If neither of these work for you, you can call the parish office at 610-265-4178 and leave a message for an order. Or you can call Mariann Bevenour at 610-212-7520 to place an order. We can then make arrangements to deliver orders
