Mother of Pearl Imperfections
I just received the San III River MOP Dial & was wondering if any one knows if the dial is suppossed to
be perfect or have slight imperfections. The dial doesn't look perfect & if it's suppossed to be I would
probably swap it out. I really don't want to send it back if I'm going to receive another one with the
same issues. This is my first MOP dial so any help would be greatly appreciated.
On mine it looks like a slight indentation giving the appearance of a pin head in the dial very small but
just enough to notice.
thanks!

Sound like a imperfection, see what others have to say. I would send it back and ask for another to be
inspeted first.

Send it back for sure and maybe a replacement will work out better because when you look at it YOU
will see it.I have had a scratch on a watch and I could pick it out everytime I wore the watch so I gave it
away.

Would bother me too much, and definitely sounds like an imperfection. I'd send it back and get a
replacement.

Been down this road, I had a Renato T-Rex Mop that was like this. Another reason I am not a Mop fan.
Natural substance does not always create a perfect dial.

Take a pic, MOP is never perfect could be natural markings and the orient.

Supposed to be grade "A"......no bumps, no veins, no tears.....bla bla blah......hmmm...I have one that
isnt perfect. I just ignore it. But if it bothers you then do what you gotta do. Exchange it.

Pix will be nice so we will know exactly the area we ought to look out for. I have two coming in
tomorrow.
On my Bolt MOP and Renato, my "Imperfection" impression would be the orient is not showing up as
prominently as the others....As long as it does not have crack line and chip edges, I imagine should be
alright. Just sayin...

I have the anniversary MOP bolt with that platinum MOP. It has textured imperfections that give it
reflective qualities and gives it character IMHO. To me, if it enhances the look of the watch, let it go, but
if in your eyes the small imperfection cheapens an otherwise bad boy watch...exchange it.

I have seen two different of these new "fresh water/river" MOP on the TTV San III and both had what
one might call "slight indentations or imperfections". This is a different look from the typical mop that
many of us are grown familiar. I recently spoke with a local expert on pearls and was told this is very
normal for the "fresh water/river" type MOP and to be expected...also desirable by those that collect
this type of pearl. Just an FYI.

It's supposed to reflect the lines or natural markinga from authentic mother of pearl. Each is different.
Do you have a shot of yours?
This is the one I received.

I would imagine, like Ron said, with a natural substance each dial is going to be different. Some may
have more imperfections than others. Wether tob keep it or not would be a personal preference. Do
remember that what may apeal to you, or if it is ok for you to keep, may not apeal to someone else
wich may make this piece hard to move in the future. Also, I have never had good luck with returning to
shop for a replacement....1st time, they gave me credit and never sent the watch and of course when I
went to buy it again it was more money, 2nd time they sent me the new watch but charged me the
going price at that time. It took alot of talking to get the original price. Good luck with what you do, it
would have been better to see a pic of your problem so you could get a consenses of how others feel
about the problem.

Mother Of pearl dials can do two things, imo.
They can have what appears to be an inperfection to the eye.
Now with that said, compared to a man made steel dial,
or other materials that are controlled, cut and stamped out.
Man made is controlled totally.
I have a few mop dials and they can play tricks with your eyes.
One dial I have looks like there are waves, in the dial, and simulates tin foil that is slightly crumpled
up.
I have a white mop and it can show more imho, because it is not influenced, by a coloring which may
cut, the effect down slightly.
I have another mop dial that has what looks like a small pinhole in the dial
which drove me crazy until a friend pointed out that it is the natural effect of the lining of the original
shell,
he explained nature is not as perfect as a press, lazer,
or stamping machine, so I kept it. Mother of pearl will give more of a look of infinity,
with no visual boundries, but can come with the effects of waves, holes, or curves, it's nature here.
The dial is cut but the mop can't be controlled to visual uniformity.
Imagine how many are thrown away for just that alone.
They are facinating to study though, it's like a Meteorite, it's made in nature, so it's real.
The following video will illustrate my point and make you feel more comfortable with the dial.
Just be sure it's not cracked and your looking at an actual break in the material.
Hope this helps.

JIMZ Hit the Nail on the head
I think you hit the nail on the head or should I say the pin hole in the dial. It looks from certain angles
like a pin hole but straight on it is very faint. I don't think you will be able to see it from a picture but I
can try. It's by the 10 O'clock marker. It's not a whole in the dial it just appears that way. I guess if I send
it back I could get something worse or better. You never know with Invicta's famous QC. Then you have
the Shop doing their pay full price and refund the difference at a later time. If I knew I could get a
perfect one I would return it but looking at the Video from Jimz they all look like they have some issues
in each of them. Keep your thoughts coming I have until January 31, 2011 to change my mind.

I think the short answer is that if it doesn't look right and bothers you, send it back. The long answer is
that MOP, whether ocean or river or whatever, has some natural imperfections which is part of it's
charm and "look". Better grades are supposed to have fewer imperfections and Invicta would have us
believe they only use the best grades. Which brings us back to the short answer: If it bothers you, send
it back.

Fresh water pearl is never as smooth and uniform as salt water pearl - thats the beauty of fresh water
pearl, but only IF you perseve it as such. Each one is unique. If you don't like it thats OK too, I happen to
hate Bell peppers.

If it bother your send it back, you will never stop noticing it. I think for most its no big deal but we are
much more finicky than the average buyer who has one maybe two watches.

MOP is a crapshoot- each dial will be different and there is never any guarantee that the next one won't
actually have even less orient than the first one. In this case, it looks like there is very little orient at all.

My best guess without you showing a pic, it is a natural "imperfection." But if it is going to bother you
everytime you wear the watch, you could return it for another one and see how that looks. I too asked a
jeweler about this type of MOP only because I did not know they used it in watches. His answer was
very much like the one above when someone asked. It is very susceptible to imperfections. Desirable to
some, but it is the reason it is not widely used in the better watches.
It would not bother me knowing it is a natural part of the material.

Hosts went to a lot of trouble to sell "Top A-1 grade, no bumps, chips, cracks, etc". While MoP is indeed
a natural product, I'm under the impression that the purpose of a grading process is to eliminate just
this sort of imperfection - especially in a "top grade" product. If it were me - straight back to the Shop.

If in doubt - Send it back while you still can. You may get a replacement or it may be sold out and you
will get a refund. Either way you won't have to look at it when you wear it and think you should have
sent it back later after it's too late. Been there.

If it's a natural blemish I would just keep it & appreciate it for what it is, however if you believe it's
because of human error then return it.

i am with jimz on this one. it is natural and therefore not perfect in man's eye, but perfect in its own
right. enjoy the 'imperfection". cheers

I agree 100%...if I desire a "perfect" and uniform dial for my timepiece, than more than not, I look to
the man-made dials. The very natural look I have gotten with mop contributes to the unique charm of a
natural substance dial. JMHO.

" Holy Mother of Pearl Batman !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! " .. natural means natural .. if it's a pin hole, that's
different, or a dark spot .. otherwise, enjoy your watch and do something else.

Going to enjoy it!
Guess what Shop is showing both colors sold out. How can that be? I have 1300/3000. I can't
believe they are gone so I can't exchange it. I can't part with this beauty. My guess is that they
will show up very shortly on WOW/Ewatche/Fractionprice/invictashark/chronoshark/ebay etc.
etc. etc.
I guess grad "A" MOP is really Grade "C" and the shop locks you out from exchanging after they
ship. They hope you fall in love so you won't return, what a racket but what can I say I guess I
love rubber & steel more than money!
