KUDOS – SPEAKING YOUR LANGUAGEC

ompanies the world over are quickly realising how essential recognition is for an engaged workforce, and they’re choosing

the Kudos social recognition system to connect their teams.

Kudos is now in use in over 80 countries, and to meet that global demand, Kudos social recognition is now available in eight languages: English, French, Spanish,

Portuguese, Greek, Czech, Arabic and Farsi. The system seamlessly switches between a left-to-right language like French to a right-to-left language like Arabic, allowing users to send and receive Kudos in their preferred language on desktops, laptops and smart devices.

Kudos is looking forward to showcasing the new language offering

and the system’s numerous recognition features at Motivate Europe Live in April. Both recognition and the power of ‘thank you’ have been the foundations of Kudos since the company’s inception, and Kudos is very proud to offer a Software-as-a-Service product that makes the meaning behind ‘thank you’ more universal than ever.l Talk to Kudos at Stand 306

OC TANNER ON THE BUTTONI

nteractivity is the name of the game at the OC Tanner exhibition stand, where visitors will be able to use a touch screen to send

interactive ebuttons to colleagues, friends and family members. There are eight buttons to choose from, enabling users to show their appreciation regardless of distance.

OC Tanner will also be showcasing its latest game-changing product, Yearbook, an online and printed keepsake that allows leaders and peers to upload stories and photos to honour a person’s life at work.

OC Tanner is credited with helping to launch the employee recognition industry, and the global recognition specialist is certainly riding high right now. It is currently celebrating its entry into the Fortune 100 best companies to work for at number 40 – a significant achievement, especially since this was the first time it had entered.l Get interactive with OC Tanner at Stand 506

CORPORATE REWARDS ON A MISSION TO MOTIVATE

Corporate Rewards is looking forward to inspiring visitors with its tailored incentive programme, project and event management services.

“We want to inspire delegates and encourage them to understand the importance of employee engagement, so they can motivate their employees, customers or partners to be more productive and, in turn, build more loyalty,” said David Gould, Managing Director of Corporate Rewards.

Visitors will be able to find out all about the company’s services, including the MyRewards online platform which includes a points banking portal that can be fully branded for businesses of all sizes in any sector.

“Our reward catalogue is also available as an API plug-in feed, so if you have an existing incentive platform but are looking for a reward fulfilment offering, our new Global Product System supply and management tool for reward orders is the system for you,” said David.

“Incentive travel and SPIF/hype days can help as part of an effective tactical sales campaign, and we will be on hand to explain how our award-winning events team can create a fun and effective promotion which can be incorporated into a MyRewards incentive platform or as a stand-alone event.”l Visit Corporate Rewards at Stand 314

EDENRED PROVIDES INSIGHTS ON BENEFITS TRENDSE

denred’s annual benefits trends research has identified the need to attract and retain the best people and to comply with legislation

as the top two drivers for changes to the benefits mix in 2015.

However, the research also uncovered an innovation gap in the way many organisations approach rewards and benefits: only 15% said their benefits proposition was innovative and 13% said they developed tailored benefits to meet the needs of employee demographics.

Andy Philpott, Marketing Director at Edenred UK said: “It is great to see the majority of organisations with plans in

place to deal with the impact of new legislation and employee expectations in a rising economy. However in a year when engaging and attracting employees will be critical to business success, our research shows there is a clear opportunity for HR and benefits practitioners to be bolder and more creative in the way they develop and deliver rewards and benefits.

“As personalisation, technology and online communication reshape consumer behaviour, it is vital that organisations understand these trends and put them at the heart of their benefits proposition.”l Visit Edenred at stand 509

A BOOST FOR BUSINESS GIVINGFor many employees, giving to charity is just as important as any rewards they receive, and combining the two can create a multi-dimensional feel-good factor. Donation Reward Services provides expert help for businesses wanting to combine incentive and reward activity with cost-free charity donations, while making sure that every penny donated reaches its mark.

“Charity donations through payroll giving services, Direct Debit donations or sponsorship websites often go through a chain of agencies, bank accounts and departments that each take a cut of the money – so not all of the money donated actually reaches the charity you donated it to,” said Terry Harvey, Director at Donation Reward Services.

The organisation has set out to change all that through a number of

activities:Incentives and Rewards (www.

incentivesandrewards.co.uk) provides a wide range of gift cards, gift vouchers and incentive vouchers that enable businesses to offer high perceived-value incentives at a low cost.

DRS Club (www.drsclub.org.uk) provides access to around 5,000 retailers with exclusive discounts – and many of the purchases through the club include a free donation to charity which is collected for the member in their free virtual bank account.

DRS-UK (www.drs-uk.org.uk) provides free payroll giving, sponsor-me funding and donation services to support different ways of giving.

Donations are held in a free virtual bank account created for each user, and then transferred to a prepaid card for the charity’s use. This ensures that every penny given reaches the charity and enables the giver to see how their money has been spent.

“We offer a great range of rewards and benefits for staff and customers while enabling donations to charity, cost free,” says Terry. “We’re looking at giving in a different way, and helping businesses to achieve the results that their incentive, reward and charity activities were set up for. And we’re giving staff a chance to see that the money they give to good causes goes where they intended it to go.”l Meet the Donation Reward Services team at Stand 215

“There is a clear opportunity for HR and benefits practitioners to be bolder and more creative in the way they develop and deliver rewards and benefits”

SET SAIL WITH BRITANNIA CORPORATE EVENTS W

hether you are looking to get the best from your employees or to

reward your best employees, a sailing day is a great option. Offering people the chance to do something different, in an

impressive environment whilst learning a new skill is motivating and rewarding.

Britannia Corporate Events runs a fleet of over 50 yachts which are designed to be sailed by a team for either racing or cruising. With a professional skipper and first mate on board to teach the crews the ropes and ensure everyone’s safety, the crew can get fully involved in learning how to sail their yacht.

Andy Byham, Managing Director said: “A huge part of our business is helping companies who are looking to reward or motivate employees or customers. A sailing day is a unique and memorable experience, and genuinely encourages team interaction in a fun environment.

“We are really excited about the forthcoming Motivate Europe Live show, and being able to bring this great experience to the attention of incentive buyers.”l Step on board with Britannia Corporate Events at Stand 322

Sodexo Benefits and Rewards Services will be unveiling a new employee rewards portfolio at Motivate Europe Live.

Sodexo Benefits and Rewards Services will be unveiling new positioning for its current reward portfolio, along with the launch of a new product at the exhibition. With conference speaking slots on both days of Motivate Europe Live, Sodexo will also be discussing recent research that it has commissioned into attitudes and awareness surrounding incentive and recognition.

Iain McMath, CEO of Sodexo Benefits and Rewards Services, said: “As an elite sponsor, we’re looking forward to being very involved in the first Motivate Europe Live and believe it will become a key event in the HR calendar in coming years.

“Sodexo has been heavily investing in research and thought leadership which has resulted in the new rewards portfolio that we’ll be unveiling over the course of the two-day event. We believe that a lot of work still needs to be done in this space in order for companies to boost motivation and remain attractive

to employees in an increasingly competitive marketplace. We hope Sodexo’s new rewards offering will help to plug this gap.”

Alastair Campbell knows a thing or two about winning. A writer, communicator and strategist, he is

best known for his role as former British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s spokesman, press secretary and director of communications and strategy, helping New Labour return to power and win three general elections. But whether it’s politics, sport or business, Campbell is fascinated by what makes a winner – a subject he explores in his latest book, Winners and How They Succeed.

“I’ve always been interested in what separates people who are globally recognised as the best at what they do from those who are clearly very good but who you wouldn’t necessarily put in the same league,” he says. “In the book, I’ve profiled different people who are winners in politics, business and sport – and a couple who are successful in all three – and tried to find trends and

characteristics that they share.” Campbell identifies several factors

that contribute to success, including strategy, teamship, leadership, innovation, boldness, use of data and crisis management. Motivation is a key theme which he relates closely to the ‘holy trinity’ of strategy, leadership and teamship.

“To be successful you have to have an understanding of your own strategy,” he says. “That is the hardest part. Too often I see people who are all about the tactical response to somebody else’s strategy, and that is not the way to lead. You might technically be a very good communicator, but what are you

communicating? If you don’t have a strategy, your leadership skills are less relevant.”

Enabling teamship at all levels is critical to success, Campbell says. “There are two ways of looking at a team,” he explains. “There’s the public facing team and then there are all the people underneath. I’ve profiled people like Nelson Mandela and the Queen, who have been enduringly successful through excessively difficult times. They’re great individuals who are going to be remembered forever, but they don’t do it on their own. You have to have good people at every level doing the right thing. The most important thing is that everybody on the team knows what they’re meant to be doing, and where it fits in relation to the objectives they’re trying to meet.”

Being a winner means accomplishing the goals that matter to the individual or organisation that set them. But while the goals themselves might differ, the principles behind their achievement are just the same.

“You need to set your targets,” Campbell says. “One of my interviews in the book is with Haile Gebrselassie, who has been a winner in sport, in business, and is now going into politics. He says his attitude in life has always been, ‘If you can’t win then what’s the point?’ I think a trait with a lot of winners is that they are always looking towards the next goal, and then the one after that. The targets are going to vary between different people and organisations, but for winners it’s always got to be about the next thing.”l Head to the Keynote Theatre at 3:00pm on Thursday, 23 April to hear Alastair’s keynote presentation

OVATION PUTS ENCORE CENTRE STAGEOvation Incentives is looking forward to showcasing Encore, its powerful new social employee recognition platform, at Motivate Europe Live.

Encore combines sophisticated reporting and multi-language communications tools with Ovation’s world-beating global reward network of retail merchant gift cards, enabling large organisations to implement strategic global reward and recognition campaigns while meeting the motivational and cultural needs of today’s multi-generational workforce.

Jonathan Grey, CEO of Ovation said: “We know that recognition drives employee engagement, and employee engagement drives productivity. The issue facing HR is how do you deliver recognition in a form that is relevant for the gen-Y workplace; how do you then make that scalable for your organisation internationally so everyone has the same experience; and finally, how do you then deliver culturally relevant rewards that drive repeat performance and productivity gains? Encore was created for this purpose.”

Encore is designed to work with many of the world’s leading HR technology suites as a pure Software-as-a-Service model, in a ‘private cloud’ or as an on-premise solution.

“Global HR teams face a number of challenges when implementing a strategic recognition initiative on a global scale,” added Jonathan. “IT, data security, programme administration – these are all top of the list even before you look at the cultural differences in your employee base. Encore has been designed from the ground up to

overcome these challenges, seamlessly and securely integrating with existing systems to deliver a rich experience for all users, on all devices, in all places.”l Find out more about Encore at Stand 513

David MacLeod’s expertise in employee engagement has been recognised at the highest levels.

He is Co-Chair of the Employee Engagement Task Force and co-author, with Nita Clarke, of the Engage for Success report defined by the Chartered Management Institute as the definitive work on the subject. In June 2013 he was awarded an OBE for Services to Employee Engagement and Business in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

DEFINING ENGAGEMENT“The Engage for Success report sought to address what the topic is, whether it matters and what tends to be present in organisations which have higher levels of employee engagement,” says David.

“There are many definitions of employee engagement and if an organisation chooses to collectively set about defining it in a way that speaks to all the employees, and which is therefore relevant to their context, then that is the best definition for them. There are therefore a large number of definitions, but at root they have one thing in common: the principle that each of us has a level of capability and potential and that in one situation we offer a small percentage of them, while in a different and better situation we offer much more or even all of our capability and potential.”

David stresses that true engagement will result in that capability and potential being willingly offered, not coerced through threats or disproportionate bonuses. “Engagement is not typically about spending money. It’s a

recognition that if we do what we do, whether it’s improving customer service or finding more efficient ways to do things or innovating, we will do it better when our people are fully engaged.”

A SHARED VISIONDavid’s work on employee engagement has delivered to some striking insights. “Having had the privilege of working with Nita Clarke on the Engage for Success report, it was clear that those organisations that are doing this well tend to concentrate on four areas,” he says.

These enablers entail ensuring that:l people understand the story of the organisation, where it’s been and where it’s goingl people feel well-managed by their boss, are treated as an individual and are clear about what success would look like, with lots of coaching and feedbackl employees’ voice counts, and they are respected and listened to l there is no ‘say-do’ gap – the values on the wall are reflected in the behaviours of colleagues and bosses.

This vision of a fully engaged workforce is not only achievable, but also critical to success, concludes David. “Engagement is incredibly important because our ability to create sustainable organisations is based on people’s commitment to grow and develop themselves and their organisations – public or private.”

David MacLeod will open Day 1 of the Motivate Europe Live conference with the latest update on the Employee Engagement Task Force.
