 Three-phase Induction MotorsM Line

The M line o motors, also named Master line, stands out or the exibility o their electrical and mechanical design, whichmakes them suitable or the most demanding operational requirements in a high number o applications.

Their mechanical design allows dierent modifcations to allow them to be interchangeable with existing motors. This innovative development has resulted in a exible product with high efciency levels compatible with internationalstandards requirements and in line with world market trends.

This evidences WEG´s commitment to its customers and to the environment, oering optimized solutions with products andsystems.

Maximum perormance can be achieved rom these motors with the application o updated sotware´s developed inpartnership with European, American and Brazilian universities which ensure design accuracy.Optimized design, quality materials used and the control in all phases o the manuacturing process allow WEG motors to beapplied in several market segments such as: mining, sanitation, rerigeration, cement, petrochemical, steel industries, sugar

and ethanol, pulp and paper, among others. The M line o motors allows the choice o a suitable product or any application orinstallation conditions.

To meet the most demanding world markets, WEG has its quality system certifed by Bureau Veritas Quality Institute incompliance with the requirements o ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. These motors are also certifed by recognized certiyinginstitutions, including CSA rom Canada, PTB rom Germany and Baseea rom the UK.

Manuacturing Process

Rotor The rotor is the rotating component o the electric motor and consists o a shat and a pressed steellamination core. For squirrel cage rotor motors, the squirrel cage is mounted into the core slots, while or slip ring motors, the orm coils are mounted into the core slots. The squirrel cage can bemade o die cast aluminum or abricated with copper or brass bars.Motor starting torque and operating conditions are taken into account when designing the rotor.Shats are manuactured with materials that comply with ABNT 1040/45, 1524 or 4140H thermallytreated materials.

Rotor

Insulation system

WEG MICATHERM insulation system is based on the Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) system, which was developed together with the world’s most renowned suppliers o insulating materials.

Using special epoxy resins, this system ensures improved insulation o the motor winding, in aprocess totally ree rom gases harmul to the environment. For many years the VPI system has shown its efciency and reliability in rotating electrical machinesin many dierent applications. The insulation system is used in low and high voltage machines thatuse orm coils o 380 to 15,000 V.

Frame

Made o welded steel plates or cast iron, the rame is the structural component o the motor thatholds, supports and protects the active magnetic part o the motor. With tough construction, itprovides the motor with excellent strength and low vibration levels.

Frame

Machining

Stator

The stator is the active magnetic static part o the motor. It consists o a core built with pressedsteel laminations where the coils orming the stator winding are inserted into the slots. The statorcore is mounted directly in the rame.

Balancing

WEG counts on equipment that allow balancing up to 3600 rpmComputerized balancing equipment allows balancing o motors accurately. Thereore, WEG motorspresent very low vibration levels. Standard balancing is perormed in two plans. However, theactory can perorm balancing in three plans when required or when specifed by the customer.

Balancing

Winding

The winding process used by WEG is especially designed and specifed or the voltage andapplication the motor is intended or. The coils o the low and high voltage motors are manuacturedwith at copper wire, and completely insulated with porous mica tape. Conducting and semiconducting tapes are also used in the winding process, covering the coils and ensuring highstrength.

Squirrel cage rotor motor

Because o design versatility and excellent operation conditions, the M line o motors is used in several industries, or driving

machines or equipment that require variable or constant torque such as ans, pumps, crushers, conveyor belts, compressors, mills, mixers and others.

Slip ring motors

The slip ring motors are normally applied to high inertia loads or highly resistive starting torque. They are also used when thereare starting current limitations in the power system.

Typical driven loads are: ball mills, cement mills, ans, exhaust ans, shredders and laminators, applied in the cement, mining, steel industries among others.

They can be supplied with removable brush holders (motorized) or fxed brush holders, based on the load or operatingconditions.

The slip ring motors with removable brush holder (motorized) have oer key advantages in terms o maintenance since theyallow the brushes to remain in contact with the slip rings only during the starting, minimizing the wear o brushes and slip rings, thus extending maintenance intervals.

 Vertical motors

The M line vertically mounted motors are designed and manuactured to meet the customer requirements or pump, crusher, mixer applications and others.

They can be supplied with grease or oil-lubricated ball, roller ball or angular contact bearings.Depending on the application, specially when subject to high axial thrust loads, they can be manuactured with oil-lubricatedball bearings or sleeve bearings.

Hazardous area motors

For hazardous area applications, WEG manuactures motors with specifc saety eatures which are suitable to operate inlocations where ammable materials are handled, processed or stored or preservation o human lie and avoid propertydamage.

The M line o motors eaturing Ex-e (increased saety), Ex-n (non-sparking) and Ex-p (pressurized) protection meet the bothnational and international standard requirement and are tested and approved by worldwide recognized certiying institutions.

 Testing Laboratory

WEG motors are tested in accordance with NBR 5383, IEC 60034, NEMA MG 1 and API in a modern laboratory. Having thecapacity to test low and high voltage motors with power rating up to 20,000 kVA and voltages o up to 15,000 V, WEG testing

laboratory eatures high accuracy test controls and ully computerized monitoring systems. The tests are divided into three categories: routine, type and special tests. Routine tests are perormed on all motors. Inaddition to routine tests, type and special tests are usually perormed in one piece within a series o equal motors or as percustomer request.
