NEW LOCAL INTAKE SECONDARY SCHOOL

The State Government has announced its decision to build a new local intake secondary school, Inner City College (planning name), on Kitchener Park in Subiaco.

The inner city has been identified as the best location for a new school as it is at the heart of the population growth in this area.

The new school will have world class facilities for students from Years 7 to 12 and be built for 2000 students to ease stu-dent enrolment pressures at several schools in the inner and western suburbs. Inner City College will also have a Gifted and Talented academic program. The announcement means the local intake areas for Churchlands Senior High School, Mount Lawley Senior High School and Shenton College have been amended to create a local intake area for the new Inner City College. These will be re-leased shortly and will come into effect from the start of 2020 when Inner City College opens with its first cohort of Year 7 students.

I would like to reassure you that if your child is enrolled at their local secondary school in 2019, they will be able to com-plete their schooling there. They will not have to change schools.

Additionally, if you currently live within a school’s local intake area and your local intake area changes to Inner City Col-lege you will have the choice to enrol your children at your current local intake school or Inner City College.

Further information is on the Department’s website at education.wa.edu.au.

Centenary Events-Artist in Residence Program Term 3

Students K-Yr 6 have an amazing opportunity to work with artist Vanessa Millner as part of the term 3 Artist in

Residence (AIR) program. Visual Arts teacher Mrs Shedley and class teachers will be collaborating with the

artist and supporting the program. The objective is for students to learn painting techniques, engage with a an

artists, produce an individually painted canvas and a large piece of art to display in the school.

HEAD LICE

Please check your child's hair weekly for head lice and treat it immediately. Parents are becoming increasing

frustrated that despite frequent treatments the head lice keep returning. Your vigilance and prompt action is

appreciated by everyone.

Nature Playground Survey

The P&C and Nature Play Committee are seeking feedback on developing a Nature Play playground for Mount

Claremont Primary School. We would like to have some input from students and parents about what you would

like in your new playground. It may not be just one playground. There could be many stages in different areas

of the school.

Here are some Nature Play parks in our region of Perth if you want to have a look:

Braithwaite Park, Mt Hawthorn.

Scotch College playground, Claremont.

Russell Brown Park, Mosman Park.

Children will complete a survey at school with class teachers.

Parents are asked to go to complete this

online survey by Friday 23 June. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VM5JF68

Parents can collect a hard copy of the survey from the office

Karen Flynn, Emily Dickson, parents of Nature Play Committee

Faction Cross Country Results

Congratulations to all Year 3-6 students who competed in the recent Faction Cross Country Carnival. It was a tremendous day full of many courageous performances and some incredibly tight competition. Well done to Wambiri for winning the carnival by the narrowest of margins and taking a slender lead into next term's athlet-ics season. We also wish good luck to all students that finished in the top 5 for their event, and who have quali-fied for the Interschool Cross Country Carnival.

Choir News

This Friday, 16th June, the Mount Claremont Primary School Choir will be going on an excursion to perform in the

Children Sing Festival at the Octagon Theatre, UWA. We have been practicing very hard and I am very proud of

the effort the students have put in to learning their lyrics and harmonies. I am looking forward to hearing them sing

on the stage of the beautiful Octagon Theatre. There will be 5 choirs performing in their session which starts at

9:30am and concludes at 10:40am. Miss Crozier, Miss Golden and Mrs Oakes will be joining Mrs Buchanan and

the 40 choir members on the excursion.

Here are a few final reminders to choir parents and students:

1. Final Rehearsal this Thursday, 8am in the music room – it is important that all students attend.

2. Friday 16th June - Please arrive at the music room at 8am for roll call, warm up, uniform check and for other

organisational purposes! We need to be ready to board the bus on time so we can be at the event early. If your

child is not on time we cannot wait for them and you will need to transport them to the venue.

3. Children will need to bring a small water bottle and a small snack (in a small disposable bag or small con-

tainer), marked clearly with their name. We will have recess in the grounds of UWA immediately after the session

(weather permitting). Students will have their lunch at the usual time when they return to school.

4. Students will need to wear their full school uniform -

clean blue polo shirt

clean school skirt, skort or shorts (no school dresses) plain black enclosed shoes (not boots). There are some spare black shoes in the music room which have

been donated by previous choir members. Please see Mrs Buchanan on Thursday if you would like to try them on and reserve a pair to wear for the performance. Any donation of black shoes that your child has outgrown will also be gratefully received

plain white socks (No leggings) Hair will need to be neat and long hair tied back with a blue band, ribbons or scrunchie. Please bring a school jacket to wear to and from the venue. Please make sure your child’s jacket has their

name clearly marked.

5. Tickets - All family and friends are encouraged to come and support the students in this festival. Tickets are

$10 each and are being sold through the University ticketing (Tickets WA) at http://massedchoirfestival.org.au/

children-sing-festival2/ Please select the correct session date and time as stated above and use the code

‘MTCLAREMONT’ (You can request a ‘print at home’ option for tickets). *There were still tickets available when I

checked on Monday. If the session is not sold out, there will be tickets available for sale at the door on the day

(probably cash only). No money is being collected by the school for this event!

Please email me at [email protected] if you have any enquires.
