Dear Parents/Carers, The last newsletter for term 3! Its such a busy term for the students and staff. I hope you use the holidays to rest and enjoy being with your children. Its very important to spend quality time as a family, talking, playing, gardening, cooking, reading…. Hope to see you all back in term 4, refreshed and ready to finish the year on a positive note. Id like to congratulate all the students who prepared a speech and had a go at presenting in front of the class. Its a big job to have researched the topic and written it out and then practised! Secondly, congratulations to the stage winners who spoke in the library last week. I was so proud to see how well everyone presented themselves. And finally, congratulations to Zahra who represented Stage 1 and Alina who represented Early Stage 1 at the Chullora Network Final 2019, at Chester Hill Public School. The girls represented Mount Lewis Infants on Tuesday and did very, very well. Congratulations to all, once again. Zahra and Alina with the awards they received for ‘Participation’ at the Chullora Network Final 2019. I’d like to acknowledge the staff who work so hard to prepare students for these events and Miss Gaida & Mrs Hormoz for coordinating Public Speaking over the term. The parents who support the school and attend workshops and practise with their children.

Working together is very powerful and gives children the best options and opportunities to develop their potential in all areas. Moduplay Equipment and Rubber Softfall-what a beautiful afternoon we had with the official opening of our play equipment. Thank you to the community for attending and making the afternoon so special. We are so lucky to have such beautiful grounds that are kept tidy and look attractive. It’s a credit to us when visitors comment on how nice our grounds are. Mr Angelo Stivala is now the permanent General Assistant (GA) at MLIS. He

applied for the job and was successful at interview. Congratulations, Mr Angelo, welcome to MLIS. We are happy for families to stay back for a while after school as long as parents/carers are supervising the children on the equipment.

We lock the gates at 3pm so we ask that anybody in the school grounds at that time make their way to the gate nearest them so we don’t lock anybody in. Thank you for your cooperation.

Once again, the wisteria is in full bloom. I couldn’t resist taking a photo to share. All our garden areas are looking lovely. It’s nice to take the time to look around as you move around our school.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is our school program that aims to help in creating safe, effective teaching and learning environments. For more information on PBL go to http://www.pbl.schools.nsw.edu.au/about-pbl

This week’s school value is:

Parents are welcome to the Monday assembly at 9am on 14/10/19 to see students get their award.

PBL Fun Day & SRC Disco: What fun and happiness today. All students were so excited to see Louie today! His visit is always the highlight of PBL Fun Days. Some of the activities the students had to choose from included; gardening, chalk drawing, face painting, computer games, a movie, and craft construction.

Take a look at the photos. More next term.

*Swimming for Year 2 in Term 4. Expensive due to the cost of buses to & from the pool. Swimming begins in week 5 of term 4 and the cost is $130. It’s about 9 weeks till money is due. Please save a bit each week so the total isn’t too difficult. *Athletics Carnival in T4 week 2, Thur 24/10/19. All invited.

The next P&C meeting is in Term 4 week 2 on Friday 25/10/19

Just want to share some photos that show how much community participation we have at MLIS. Lots of parents/carers attend our events, including the opening of the play equipment, the public speaking competition, the Parenting Skills sessions with Hannah (a big favourite), just to name a few.
