Message from our Pastor
Perhaps it’s a “getting older thing.” I seem to be develop-ing a greater appreciation for the friendships that I have had the privilege to establish during my life. Recently, I had the opportunity to touch base with a seminary class-mate that I had not spoken with for over 9 years. This may sound a bit “cliché” but it was as if “we had just seen each other” yesterday. Yes, there was a lot of catching up on paths taken, challenges faced, health, family, work and ventures experienced over the years but the conver-sation and the communication was smooth and easy. We had and we continue to have a bond.
The relationship and the bond that I share with these privileged few “Friends” is one based upon shared experi-ences, paths that we walked together and accompanied each other on during various chapters of our lives. There is a significant and powerful sense of trust, confidentiali-ty, honesty and vulnerability. Another way of saying it, “we feel safe around each other.” The topics are without boundaries and we are honest, frank and sincere. And yes, even though most of these special people are men, not all, but most, even us men can speak of “love”. Love ya, man!! You are special!!
The other bond that we share that makes it possible for us to “be in relationship” is Jesus. We share a faith that is based on the grace and love of Christ. Our life stories have been shaped, molded and grounded in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We’ve served Jesus together, we’ve la-bored for the sake of the gospel with one another, broken bread and wine in the sacrament of communion, we’ve been there for each other in times of great celebration and in some of the most difficult and traumatic times of our lives trusting Jesus and one another
Perhaps, I have struck a chord. Cherish the privileged friendships and relationships you have developed over the years because of your “bond in Christ”. Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love. Reach out and talk to someone new, you never know the difference it could make in their life and in yours.
We are blessed for the journey, you have all that you need with in you!
Craig M. Corbin

A SPECIAL REPORT ON MEMORIAL SERVICES FOOD SERVICE
Memorial Food Services Background: The memorial food services began several years ago and this com-
mittee was known as Martha’s Angels. {Note: A loved one dies and the family wishes to have food service in addition to the church service.} The present day situation is that those dedicated women who, through all these years, have always provided this necessary service are now physically unable to continue to serve in the same capacity. These memorials are usually held on a Saturday, although that is not a given. Some memorials are a pot luck af-fair, some are catered sandwiches/cold cuts while some are cookies and coffee, etc. While this committee wishes to remain as mentors, the basic facts are even the organization of the above services require special sets ups, ordering food, serving as well as cleaning up and cannot be continued without some new able bodied persons, men as well as women, who wish to become involved and take on this responsibility. Please search your heart to see if there are any of you interested in maintaining this charita-ble committee, please talk to Pastor Craig or Linda Nord. Otherwise, the remaining persons will no longer be able to provide any food services other than simple coffee, cold drinks and cookies.

Dollars & Sense - An Occasional Update
from the Congregation Treasurer
by Steve Philo It seems that everywhere you look around our church home these days, money is being spent to refresh or improve our property. So where is all this money coming from? I'm happy to tell you all about the great things that are hap-pening here at Mount Olive!
In broad terms, there are three major projects happening right now, so let me address each one in turn. First, the parking lot improvement project. This major undertaking has been anticipated for a very long time. The Council determined a number of years ago that the asphalt surface would eventually need to be replaced, so they began set-ting aside money in the Capital Reserve fund. These dollars came from two sources; money remaining in the gen-eral fund at the end of each year (collection money left after all the expenses were paid each year); or generous donations received through estates or bequests. We estimated that this project could cost as much as $200,000 dol-lars, so we've deliberately been saving for several years so that we would have the cash on hand to pay for the en-tire project without taking on any additional debt. Last summer, the asphalt surface reached the point of no return. The uneven, crumbling surface was becoming a hazard to our members. We solicited bids from several contrac-tors, and determined that we could proceed with the work. We included a barrier-free design to enhance access to the church and parish center. We deliberately limited the work to the area you now see completed, to avoid in-stalling concrete in the area slated for future expansion. This project is nearing the finish line, with an estimated final cost of $145,000. The balance remaining in the Capital Reserve fund will be approximately $17,000 when the parking lot project is completed.
The second major project now underway is refreshing the Parish Center. This project was initiated as a grass-roots campaign by the Sunday School volunteers. They presented a modest plan to spruce up the lobby and apply fresh paint, but as the work got underway it became apparent that a simple face-lift would be woefully inadequate. The Council recognized that even though our long-range plan calls for a new multi-purpose building, we will still be using this facility daily for another fifteen years. Funding for the flooring, paint, and other items needed to refresh the facility is coming from the Undesignated Memorials fund. These dollars were donated as memorials, but with-out a specific purpose or intent expressed by the donor. The fund has grown over the years, and will completely cover the expenses of this project. Significant savings have also been realized through the many hours of volunteer labor donated towards this project. This project is also nearing completion, with a total projected cost of $40,000.
The balance remaining in the Undesignated Memorials fund will be approximately $30,000 when the Parish Center project is completed.
The third major project completed this winter was landscaping on the Clarke Drive side of our property. This pro-ject was also initiated as a grass-roots campaign by a dedicated group of volunteers. They solicited donations for this project to cover all the expenses, and volunteered many hours of labor to complete the magnificent work. The total cost for this project was $18,158. Their efforts were recently recognized by the Keep Havasu Beautiful Com-mittee with the Commercial Pride Award!
All three of these projects have been fully paid for without any money from the general fund or taking on any debt. This is an amazing accomplishment, given the scope of these projects, and is concrete evidence of the many blessings that God bestows on our congregation. We are all stewards of the time, talent, and treasures we are given during our life. Our Mount Olive family has given generously to support the mission and ministries of our com-munity of faith. Your monetary gifts and volunteer labor, plus the wonderful gifts received from our departed members through their estate plans, have made these three amazing projects possible.

WITNESSES
Mark your Calendar for this Must See Dramatic Presentation. Associate Members Gary and Judy
Bjornsen have seen Rev. Jonathan Swenson and say this is a must see, inspiring dramatic presentation.
One Actor * Eight Characters * A Fresh Look at Jesus
A stingy Innkeeper with a Bronx accent, an Italian Lazarus who likes pasta, and a joyful Simon Peter on Easter Morning… all these characters and more come to life on Thursday, March 22 with two perfor-mances, at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm, here at Mount Olive Luther-an Church. with the dramatic presentation, Witnesses. Written by Curt Cloninger, this one-man, multiple character performance will feature Christian actor and speaker, Rev. Jonathan Swenson.
In this innovative and inspiring re-telling of the Gospel, Swenson portrays eight different characters as each responds to Jesus. Through these eye-witness accounts, both comedic and serious, the audience is encouraged to see Jesus from fresh perspectives; not cold and distant, but as one who was intimately involved in the “nitty-gritty” of life.
Swenson is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College (B.A. in Psychology, Theater and Music, 1988) and Luther Seminary (Master’s of Divinity, 1994). He has served as an ordained minister for over 15 years, and is currently the Founding Director of Paraphrase Theater as well as the Director of Program-ming for Mount Carmel Ministries in Alexandria. MN.
Swenson, a trained actor, travels throughout the country sharing a unique blend of drama, teaching, music and story-telling. His regional theater credits include such leading musical roles as Tevye, Daddy Warbucks, Harold Hill and Nathan Detroit. Dramatic roles include Gratiano in The Merchant of Venice and Roland in Taking Steps. Swenson has also performed as guest soloist with Orchestra Iowa in Cedar Rapids, IA. Most recently, Jonathan can be seen in the feature film, “Miles Between Us” produced by ii Films, and heard on the soundtrack of Rich Melheim’s Martin Luther Rock Opera.
Wood Shop Sale The woodshop will display and make available all of its items to the con-gregation on Saturday and Sunday, March 24 and 25, after each of the services. Toys for the grandkids, crosses, boxes, cutting boards bowls games and more. All items are do-nations only and funds raised will be matched by Thrivent. See us in the Friendship Café.

The sermon this weekend was about the transfiguration where God once more revealed His glory to us and He gave us a command. Mark 9:7 reads: Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: "This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to Him!" God continues to speak to us if we are quiet and receptive to His voice. Have you heard His voice prompting you to do or say something? He may be asking you to
send someone a card, to make a phone call, to pray for someone, to visit a person in the hospital or nursing home, to volunteer, to speak to a neighbor or friend, etc. He will also lead us through the good and bad times in our lives and give us guidance when making decisions. The great thing about God is that He never changes, keeps His promises, is all powerful and always available to listen to us and to speak to us. Our part is to trust in Him, ask His help and to listen to what He has to tell us.
We have Stephen Ministers in our congregation who have heard God's voice asking them to make a commitment to serve others. They were called to help others by being there for them when they need someone to listen to them and walk alongside them during difficult times. It is NOT a sign of weakness to accept a Stephen Minister but ra-ther an acceptance of one of the ways that God uses people to help, heal, strengthen and encourage. Stephen Min-istry is a resource that is available to members of Mount Olive as well as non-members. We offer Christian care giving and focus on God being the healer. If you, or someone you know might be interested in learning more about Stephen Ministry, call the Pastor or one of the leaders listed below and we would be glad to visit with you. Also if you feel that you are hearing God's voice asking you to serve Him in this way, we would appreciate knowing that as well.

Tomorrow is our annual “Friendship Tea” so more of that event will be reflected in March’s report. Suffice it to say, it is – as usual - SRO! There will be devotions, a guest speaker {think chocolate}, and our circle ladies are making tons of goodies for your palate and, of course, varieties of tea. Thank you Leslie Hollman for chairing this year.
Our distributions so far for 2018 are as follows: Denise’s Day $1000, Sally’s House $1000. Pending donations will be for the Clarke St. landscaping project and remodeling the kitchen: stripping wallpaper and painting to coordinate with the newly updated Parish Center main room. {Thank you Property Board for this awesome modernization.} We devoted ladies of MOLC could not accomplish these goals without ALL of you in the congregation supporting our fundraisers. Our ministry board strives to continue to make fresh our efforts in fundraising for the benefit of all as well as our Havasu community.
Looking Forward:
. Next Women’s Ministries Board meeting is the first Wednesday in March 7 at 9am. Please join us and share your input into our ministry. . The March Circle meeting is the second Tuesday, March 13 at 1pm. Please join us for a short business meet-
ing (be informed – your input matters*) socializing and a Bible study. . Grand Canyon Synod’s Spring Gathering will be held in Henderson on Saturday, April 21. This is an oppor-
tunity to share with other women, God’s gifts – all are invited and encouraged to attend. A flyer will be posted in the Narthex for sign up. . Our Mother’s Day event is scheduled for Saturday May 12. Yet another sharing and camaraderie with all of you wonderful ladies.
* Many hands make the task so much lighter and, besides, we have fun with our ministry. We are an open group of Christian women dedicated to sharing God’s word and making our world a better place. Please feel free to
join in any or all of our activities; we welcome ALL.

Sunday School News: Hello everyone! Sunday school is rocking and rolling with fun!
We are in search of musical talents! If you have musical gifts and have some free time
please contact Jenifer Clark to help our Sunday school get music back in their lives. Mu-
sic is no longer a fundamental part of public school anymore leaving many of our children deprived of the
opportunity for the art of music to grow in them. Our goal is to get a children’s choir and God-willing may-
be even a band! We can’t do it alone and rely so much on the gifts and talents of our fantastic congregation.
If you feel called to grow this ministry let us know and help us GROW!
Our next fun filled event is planning our Annual Easter Egg Hunt! Please look in the Narthex for donation opportunities we are in need of Easter candy to fill up 440 eggs!! Please keep in mind if you are donating candy we ask that they be small enough to fit into an average plastic Easter egg. Tune in for a special report on Easter from our very own Sunday school news crew! We will be hosting a short Easter play featuring our students investigating eyewitness reports on the true meaning of Easter during the 10 am service. Followed by our annual community egg hunt, everyone is invited after the 10 am service to join in the fun! Don’t forget to bring your baskets and dress up for a special photo!
We are gearing up for our next VBS; be prepared for Rolling River
Rampage, a fun filled adventure you don’t want to miss. Mark your
calendars for June 4th-8th from 6-8:30 pm. Keep an eye out for sign
ups or see Jenifer Clark or Catie Sondrol for information on volunteer
opportunities!
Events God’s work our hands a 1-2-3 serve! Community Outreach project has been postponed until April.
There is a fantastic Community opportunity for Mount Olive to participate in. Fowler Family Fun Day will
be held at Sara Park all proceeds will be donated to the Fowler Family. As many citizens of Lake Havasu
have heard Kurt Fowler is a Desert Hills Firefighter that was seriously injured in the Route 91 shooting in
Las Vegas. Due to the injuries he sustained and recovery time he will need a mission has been started to
help his family with expenses of loss of work and medical care while he is recovering. Churches and busi-
nesses have been asked to provide activities or donations to make this event fun for families to attend while
aiding the Fowler family. Please contact Jenifer Clark to participate in this event.
