Introduction to Mountain Biking
• It is one of the most popular adventure sports in the world
• It is the fastest growing lifestyle sport amongst the urban middle class in India
• More and more Indians are taking up this sport as a new found option to remain fit
• This sport finds a wide connect with environment conscious consumers who have taken to cycling as an alternate form of transportation and leisure

To be the biggest, most successful and entertaining mountain cycling event in the continent
Vision
To promote tourism, mountain biking in the Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh by providing excellent terrain, international exposure to local talent and attracting new audiences to the
sport through this event and its innovative presentation.

Ever since its inception in 2005 the event has:• Revolutionized the way mountain cycling
is perceived in India• Helped bringing into limelight this niche
sport • Created interest amongst a wide
demographic• Grown from a meagre 34 rider participation
in 2005 to over 300 riders till date• Led to a 100 fold jump in the sales of
mountain cycles and related accessories in the country
• Successfully established Himachal Pradesh as a premier mountain cycling destination in the world
• Inspired other organizations across the country to replicate the events model so as to encash the growing popularity of the sport (Nilgiri Ride, Sikkim MTB)

• More than 300 mountain bike riders have participated in the event
• International representation from USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Nepal etc.
• National representation from more than 16 states
• Teams from adventure wings of the armed and the paramilitary forces
• Participation from adventure associations, clubs, universities and institutes across the globe
• Has been actively supported and promoted by Government of Himachal Pradesh and Incredible India campaign

MTB Himachal 2010
• India’s first organized premier Mountain Biking event• The 6th edition of the race is to be flagged off on 27th
September 2010 “World Tourism Day” from the historic Ridge, Shimla
• After traversing through 500 Kms of newly identified route the race will end again in Shimla on 4th October, the erstwhile summer capital of the country
• 8 days of exquisite western Himalayan back country• Over 100 riders expected to participate from all over the
world• 12000 metres of aggregate elevation gain• Test of endurance, stamina and strength

MTB Himachal 2010 Cont …• Total entourage of 250 people
consisting of riders, officials, Medicare personnel and ground staff
• Ground audience will include urban & rural population of Shimla, Mandi, Kullu districts of Himachal Pradesh
