Dear Students, Parents/Caregivers and Friends, Term 2 is nearly completed! What a unique term it has been – living and working in a pandemic. Despite all the challenges faced and worked through, there have been so many positives from the experience. A massive thank you for working with us to ensure the health and safety of our school community members.
School processes for Term 3 will mostly look the same as they currently are with a few adjustments. An information sheet with the Term 3 processes will be emailed tomorrow.
This morning, classes across the school worked in pairs to complete a series of STEM activities. These activities were organised by our STEM Champion teacher, Mrs Amy Harsant. Thank you, Amy! The students enjoyed a change of routine and got to challenge their brains in a different way.
Further in the newsletter today you will find more examples of student work. It was rewarding to see the Quest story, letter to the future, Year 2F Science news and tchoukball competition update in last week’s newsletter. Students, and staff, have worked hard to achieve great demonstration of learning for this term.
Term 3 is going to be an extra busy one with the return to teaching and learning of all key learning areas, extra activities and so on. Every day will need to count! Enjoy this break in readiness for the new term. REMINDERS FOR TERM 3 ALL students need to bring a
water bottle every day; ALL students need to bring a
broad brimmed hat every day; Visitors to the school MUST ring
the office before entering the school grounds;
Adults waiting outside the school gates need to maintain 1.5m distance from each other;
School winter uniform needs to be blue or black. NO jeans. NO hoods on jumpers;
Stay home if unwell.
REPORT CARDS Report cards are being prepared in readiness for distribution by email in Week 1 of the new term. As already indicated a couple of times now, the report will look a little different to previous reports you have received. Editing the report cards has been rewarding as there are so many good news stories. Learning differently in Term 2 has not really affected students’ overall ratings which has been the bonus of a challenging term. There will be no formal parent-teacher interview period allocated but parents are certainly welcome to make a time for a phone chat with relevant class teachers. Teachers will also be making contact with parents as necessary. SCHOOL OPINION SURVEY The Department of Education is conducting shorter, sharper School Opinion Surveys this year for students, staff and parents. The surveys will comprise a short number of questions about learning arrangements in Term 2, as well as a small number of the regular SOS questions that more broadly reflect the entire year.

RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOUR PLAN
STATIONERY SUPPLIES With holiday time approaching, please start a shopping list of items your child will need to restock depleted supplies. Pencils, erasers and other such items should be put at the top of the list. LOST PROPERTY As we come to the end of another term, it is time to check that your children have all of their winter clothing, lunch boxes, hats and water bottles. A few discarded items are to be found in classrooms, in the lost property box and in the Hall. Please start doing a stocktake of your children’s gear and ask your child to search for any missing items. Any items not collected at the end of the term will be cleaned and sent to St Vinnies. ON THIS DAY June 25:1847 Melbourne is declared a city by Queen Victoria.

WELLBEING
Don’t forget that the Premier’s Reading
Challenge is still going. These school
holidays would be a great opportunity to
catch up on some of your reading!!
You still have until Friday 28th August to log
your reading. Check out the Premier’s
Reading Challenge website where you can
find the reader record if you still need it.
The website also has suggested book lists if you need ideas for books. Remember, the Queensland State Schools e-library has many of these titles available to borrow for free just by logging in with your student EQ logon.
Happy Reading!

HEAD LICE ALERT We are currently experiencing a problem with
head lice at school. If everyone could spend
some time over the holidays checking their
child/children’s hair, and treating if
necessary, we will be one step closer to
eliminating this problem. If your child has
long hair, please send them to school with it
tied up. More information regarding dealing
with head lice can be found further in this

Chappy’s Chats Surprise Surprise!!! …… Holidays
are here again. I feel they have come around really fast this term but the children are starting to lag so a change of scene will burst and refresh us all.
Parents, you have worked hard this term with home schooling and Covid-19 and the children have had a few different teachers to accommodate so let’s all relax and enjoy ourselves for the next two weeks. Just think, sleep ins – no
early mornings getting kids dressed for the school bus or drop offs at the front gate. You don’t have to think too hard about the lunch box, and you can think differently – Hot Dogs or Chips on Bread with tomato sauce (yes please). No ironing of school uniforms - Kids, you can wear whatever you like, just make sure you get dressed some days. Popcorn, Hot Chocolate and a movie on the lounge sounds good. A drive in the countryside ending with a picnic sounds like an adventure.
Sleepovers are hard work, but give you the time to get to know your child’s friends (This can be very rewarding in the end). We are halfway through the year so it’s wise to do some well-being checkups for your selves and your children.
Parents, can I suggest that you take your child/children on a one on one date and give them your full attention and ask them to share what is going on in their lives. Make eye contact and wait for their response. Prompt them with a question if they run out of things to tell you, but don’t take over their conversation. I have found that children just need to be listened to and there is no one more important to them than you. Can I leave you with a few quotes? Good friends help you find things when you have lost them…. your smile, your hope, and your courage. Once you make choices, your choices make you. Rick Warren Having a heart to bless will challenge the judgmental mindset that can colour how we look at those we live with and among. Ray Godwin
Take pride in how far you’ve come. Have
faith in how far you can go. But don’t
forget to enjoy the journey.
Eat lots, Sleep lots, Laugh lots, Love lots, Read lots this holidays and come back refreshed and renewed. I have set myself a goal of achieving all of the above. Please make a promise to yourself to enjoy the break.
Many Blessings

Another letter to the future students of 2059 from the 6M class!
Dear student of the future,
Hello! My name is Sophie Hutchinson and I am a year six student at Moura
State School in the year of 2020. I live out of town, so I catch the Kianga
bus to school. I have lived in Moura my whole life but I moved to my new
house in year four (2018). Anyway, enough about myself. I am writing this
letter to you so you can have a better understanding of what life was like
in 2020. If I am correct, you should be a year six student of 2059. So that
means you will be reading this in 39 years. Big time difference.
Corona virus is a virus that is affecting the world’s population. Everyone
has been stuck in isolation and going crazy over toilet paper. You’ve
probably heard of it, right? Well, I’ve only recently come back to school
after having to be home-schooled for nine weeks. It’s great to be back at
school, but I did enjoy home-schooling because I could work at my own pace
and get lots of free time. Also, almost everything has been cancelled. DV
athletics and even Coal Festival! I was so excited for all those things.
You probably want to know what all the trends in 2020 were, right? Well,
Tik Tok, which is an app where people make mini videos, like dances and
mini vlogs, is the biggest craze right now with over 100 million downloads!
That’s a lot of people using it. I really like tik tok, but it can be
annoying because you can only make one minute max videos. Another thing
that is really popular is games like Fortnite and Minecraft. Even though
these things are really big right now, you would probably think they are
pretty lame in the future.
I think you would have flying cars in the future, so I’m going to let you
know what cars were like in 2020. My family currently owns five cars, a
white Toyota Land cruiser, a white Toyota Land cruiser ute, a black ute, a
blue ute and a white ute. We use the blue ute to go four wheel driving, or
in other words, Sophie torturing.
I hope my letter has helped you get a better understanding of lifestyle in
the year of 2020.
Yours sincerely,
Sophie Hutchinson
