D.C’s REPORT Welcome to the April rally. You will notice when you look at the rally plan that we are concentrating on the Equitation side of jumping in the show jumping and poles & grid classes at this rally. I am hoping that you all enter the show jumping competition that our club is running in May and as one of the classes at the competition is equitation it is a good idea for you all to learn how to ride an equitation course! Our C Certificate candidates have been working really hard under Teena’s instruction and everyone is making good progress – keep up the good work! We also have had a number of riders working through the D certificates with Yolanda. Congratulations to all those riders who braved the weather at Tooradin and thank you to all the parents that helped out on the day. This is my last report as DC as I am stepping down due to my study commitments this year. I would like to thank all the riders for being such a wonderful and positive group – all the instructors comment on how hard it is to decide who gets the points each month as you all try so hard. It has been amazing to watch your progression over the last 2 ½ years. There is a large group of members who were little girls on small ponies when I started and you are now young women on sometimes large and challenging horses! Keep in mind that you are an inspiration to those younger riders just starting their pony club journey. I would also like to thank all those parents who have been on the committee over the past 3 years and supported me in my role as DC – particularly Steve and Loreto who I could always call on for moral support when things got tough! From the Secretary’s Desk April 2009 Bring and Buy Sale March Rally A wonderful effort by all concerned raised over $800 and a healthy amount of good gear left over to donate to those setting up again following the bushfires. Annual General Meeting 2009 The AGM will be at 12.30pm at the clubrooms at the April rally. Please give some thought to nominating for one of the committee positions, either with a specific responsibility or as a member of the General Committee. It is crucial that these responsibilities circulate through the membership so that every family gets a chance to enjoy their membership and contribute to the club. Events and Competitions For a complete list of pony club competitions, checkout the PCAV website for the calendar - http://www.ponyclubvic.org/ For entry forms to some of the more local competitions and events, see the Events Folder at the rally. Doongala PC is holding a showjumping day in April with a pre-Grade 5 competition with smaller jumps for younger and less experienced members not ready to tackle standard Grade 5 competition. State PCAV Eventing Championships Grades 3 and 4 May 9 and 10 at Werribee. Competitors selected by the Zone to compete as a team. To be considered for selection by the Zone, complete Expression of Interest form with records of placings in events and return with fees to the Zone Secretary by April 3rd. All information is on PCAV website, PCAV Interzone Horse Trials Booklet and Entry Forms http://www.ponyclubvic.org/ Competitors over 13 years old who have been members for more than 2 years must have their C certificate to compete at State level. State Games and Flat Teams Event April 26, 2009 Venue: Dingley PC, Patterson Lakes. Team manager: Sally Brownridge Maintenance We still have some jobs left over from the working bee - painting cupboards, affixing latches, replacing the bolt on the toilet door (again!), connect plumbing to the basin in first aid room, whippersnippering around the club buildings, replace post at top gate. If you did not attend the working bee and can take on one of these jobs, please let me know. In particular if someone could bring a drill and screwdrivers to the rally to replace the latch on the canteen cupboard and put new latches on our new cupboards, that would be great. 2009 Monbulk Pony Club Competition Dates Please mark these dates in your calendar – May 17 (showjumping) and November 15 (event TBC). There will a working bee in the previous month before each competition, Saturday May 7 and Sunday October 18. Every family is required to attend at least one working bee each year.
The entry form for the showjumping competition is attached. See the PCAWA’s excellent showjumping manual for lots of good advice and rules for equitation (p. 33), Table C (p. 16) and Time, Fault and Out (p. 5.) There will be an Open Training Section 5 competition for those without a showjump grading. open to all ages (come on, parents, show us your style!) but only riders 13 years and under will be eligible for placings and prizes. There will be entry forms at the rally. Please take a handful and distribute to school friends, saddleries, produce stores and, most importantly, take to any competitions you are attending. I conducted a mailout survey after our November competition, and the club received lots of positive feedback, particularly about the friendliness of our membership, marshals, gearcheckers – really, everyone! IMPORTANT NOTICES. **CHANGES TO ROSTER** There continues to be families who simply do not turn up for their rostered duty. This has resulted in increased workload for others rostered on, and often results in Irma working in the canteen most rally days, which is not only unfair to Irma, but to her children. It is not Irma’s job to be in the canteen on rally days– she has volunteered to co-ordinate the running of the canteen, buying food etc, which she does each and every rally BUT it is not her job to be in the canteen on rally days, except for the initial set-up prior to 10am. I have therefore increased the rostered number of people on canteen to six. This should enable people to have some time away from canteen to see their children ride at some stage during the day when rostered on canteen. I have also increased the setup/packup number to six also. PLEASE note when you are rostered on. PLEASE arrange a swap if you cannot attend when rostered on.
