Linux on mainframe – why?
• Reduce cost • Move MIPS consumption workload from z/OS
Generating reduction in MLC • Reduce numbers of physical servers by virtulization
• Software licensing can be reduced • Easier administration and management • Security and business continuity • Energy consumption and floor space
• Maintain mainframe benefits

Transforms on z/Linux
• Move workload from z/OS to z/Linux • Transforms can be MIPS consuming • All AFP transforms can be done (PCL, PS, PDF..) • Resources are ”moved” with
the print job
• Maintain speed and platform benefits
• Consolidate servers
• Save cost on MLC

Transform on z/Linux
• Challenge in IT & Business • Cutting costs • Increased demand in
transforms producing a large numbers of PDFs per months
• Speed in production and distribution of PDFs
• Variation in demand for transform
• Security
• Result • Reduced cost by cutting
MLC payment • Maintained mainframe
speed and stability • Maintained mainframe
I/O capability • Maintained mainframe
scalability • Maintained mainframe
Security
Client case: Large facility management provider

Secure pull printing
• Pull printing • Hold all print jobs until authenticated • Choose to print or delete held jobs • Registration of all print jobs
• Secure printing • Confidential printing, copy and scan • Secure technology
• Flexibility and Stability • Mainframe dependability • If one MFP is down, users can find another MFP to print

Secure pull printing
• Numbers • 2 billion USD revenue • 2.500 employees • 1.2 million private Clients • 350.000 business clients • 1 million phone calls /year
Client Case: Large insurance company
• Challenge i IT • Cost cutting
• Move from mainframe project • Privacy / compliance
• Confidential print left in open space • Two or more departments sharing
printers • Not able to identify user when
printing from host
• Useing lot of time sorting print • Printing maintance very time
consuming.
• 40% office print 60% Host print • Host and office print two different
‘worlds’

Secure pull printing
• XX% MIPS reduction on AFP transform
• User identification (follow me printing)
• Combine office & host print in one solution • Print server consolidation • Accounting
• Compliance • Print follow user • No documents in open space
• Rule based printing • Maintaining mainframe bennefit
Client Case: Large insurance company
