Mr. Kroeker - The Power of Promise by Anita Rohlfs/2012 As I talked with my students that Tuesday morning, I knew they were supposed to have a test the next time they had class with Mr. Kroeker. “Remind me what you were learning about today in Bible?” I asked them. Their response jogged my memory. I had been sitting in the back of the classroom overhearing Mr. Levi Kroeker— man of the Word, man of his word—define the word “covenant” to a group of twelve-year olds who live in a world where promises are broken more than kept. “A covenant is a promise that should never, never, never be broken.” I remembered now: Genesis, Noah, the flood, the rainbow…God’s promises to us and us keeping our promises! That’s what I had heard Mr. Kroeker teach just a few hours before we would get the news that he had been taken to the hospital and was in critical condition. I was humbled to be the one who got to communicate Mr. Kroeker’s earthly condition to a group of sixth graders who considered him to be nearly immortal. Three mornings a week, he drove ever-so-slowly into the parking lot and walked into the doors of Lincoln Christian School. He walked into our classroom, removed his Bible from his briefcase, opened it up, and said, “Let’s pray.” And then The Word would come alive! That Tuesday afternoon we sat on our desks and talked. “OK. It’s like this. If Mr. Kroeker is a walking miracle in these halls again in a few days, that’s great! And if Mr. Kroeker is walking gold streets in heaven, that’s great! Mr. Kroeker would want us to trust the promise of God’s best plan.” So we did! For the next two days, we asked God for His best plan. We went to the promises of Psalms for encouragement; we talked matter-of-factly that the most important way to honor Mr. Kroeker’s legacy of faith was to be confident in our own salvation through Jesus; and we grew up a little, knowing that we were the special group that God asked to walk through these circumstances. And Friday afternoon, we got to share the moment of realization that God’s best plan had been fulfilled: Mr. Kroeker was, in fact, in the presence of his Savior Jesus, walking those streets of gold, and worshiping the God who promises heaven! “Thank You, Mr. Kroeker!” the sixth graders had said that Tuesday morning as he zipped up his coat, grabbed his briefcase, and walked out the doors of Lincoln Christian School for the last time. Thank you, Lord, for Mr. Kroeker who spent his final conscious hours teaching us a lesson that encompassed who he really was: He was a man who stood powerfully on the promises of God, and he always, always, always kept his promises. Mr. Kroeker - The Power of Promise

by Anita Rohlfs/2012

As I talked with my students that Tuesday morning, I knew they were supposed to have a test the next time they had class with Mr. Kroeker. “Remind me what you were learning about today in Bible?” I asked them. Their response jogged my memory.

I had been sitting in the back of the classroom overhearing Mr. Levi Kroeker—man of the Word, man of his word—define the word “covenant” to a group of twelve-year olds who live in a world where promises

are broken more than kept.

Mr. Kroeker would want us to trust the promise of God’s best plan.”

So we did!

Where did you go to college? Nebraska Wesleyan

Where is your hometown/state? David City, Nebraska

What is your favorite animal? Hmm, squirrels. Just so cute and funny.

Describe yourself in three words or less? Forgiven, Redeemed, Daughter!

What was your first ever job? I was a lifeguard at the David City Aquatic Center! Woohoo!

If you had to spend the rest of your life eating one food, what would it be? Probably chocolate-covered strawberries. A little nutrition, a little chocolate.. yep, I could live on that.

What do you like most about first graders? I love that they are so creative and just excited about learning!

Tell us one thing most people do not know about you? For most of my childhood I had a 40-something “adopted sister.” Her name was Judy and she was a wonderful lady who had Down Syndrome. Her parents couldn’t take care of her, so she lived with us for 16 years. I still get to visit her sometimes and she is just so full of life! I have lots of great memories with her.

Why did you become an elementary school teacher? I became an elementary teacher mostly because God has just given me a love and appreciation for kids. It took me a long time to figure out how I should work with kids, and what God wanted me to do with that love. But after teaching for my first year, I feel like I’m right where I’m supposed to be. I’ve loved being a teacher and even more so getting to share Christ with my students!

What do you like about coaching junior high girls? That they are just so spunky! Both the basketball and volleyball teams got along really well this year, and it was just fun to get to hang out with them and challenge them. I also appreciated that they were so coachable and willing to listen to a newbie coach like me.

What has surprised you at Lincoln Christian? I’ve just really been impressed with the genuineness of the staff and parents here. It’s been such a blessing to me to be able to see their servant hearts and their desire to see the children develop a real relationship with the Lord. We have such a cool and unique thing here at Lincoln Christian and God deserves all the glory for it!

What is your favorite Lincoln Christian teaching memory this past year? It’s hard to pick one, but I would have to say our epic win of the skating trophy for the second time! Zooming around that skating rink with all my students is so much fun! It’s also just really great to get to see and spend time with my students outside of the school environment.

Lincoln Christian Winter Sports Update

Cheerleading Cheerleading recently finished third in Class C state competition held in Grand Island. Great job cheerleaders and a special thanks to our seniors Andrea Garay, Hannah Randoja, and Kylie Ballentine.

Girls’ Basketball The varsity girls’ basketball team continued to improve throughout the year and capped the season with a four-overtime district championship win against Sandy Creek High School. They drew #1 seeded Chadron in the first round of the state tournament, and took them to overtime before losing by 2 points. Congratulations girls’ basketball!

Boys’ Basketball The varsity boys’ basketball team completed another great season with a district championship. They followed this district championship with a great effort and only a two point loss at the state tournament against #1 seeded and eventual State Champion Boys Town Cowboys. Congratulations boys’ basketball!

WrestlingSenior Gunner Wiebusch qualified for this year’s state wrestling tournament in Omaha at 126 pounds. Congratulations to all the Lincoln Christian wrestlers!

Pi DayLincoln Christian students look forward to Pi Day each year, a day set aside to celebrate the mathematical constant “Pi”, which is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. It is celebrated on 3/14 (March 14) since these are the first three digits of Pi. The value of Pi

is a repeating decimal that goes on forever. Because of this, Pi enthusiasts have challenged themselves over the years to memorize as many digits as possible, which is quite a challenge since there

is no pattern to it whatsoever. Beginning in 2006, LCS math students celebrate Pi Day with fun activities, a Pi recitation contest, and of course pie-eating. The current school record is 800 digits set by Brianne Schipman in 2010. This year, first place went to Sarah Corrie who reached 300 digits, and Laura Williams came in second with 80 digits. They both won a Pi t-shirt for their efforts and, of course, some pie! All the

math classes worked together to create a color-coded paper chain of the first 2640 digits of Pi.

Hall of Honor Inductees

Herb and Pam Schrader and Jason and Renae Dworak were recently inducted into the Lincoln Christian Hall of Honor on Saturday, February 11 at the annual Lincoln Christian Alumni Night. Congratulations to the newest inductees.

Performing Arts Center GiftThe Lincoln Christian Foundation recently received a $10,000 gift from Phil and Ann Boehr with the designated goal of building a performing arts center at the school. In giving the gift, the Boehr’s stated, “We are excited about what God is doing in the performing arts at Lincoln Christian School. Vocal and instrumental music and drama are alive and well. We are praying that God would choose to provide Lincoln Christian School with a performing arts center that could be used in so many ways to bless the Lincoln Christian family, the greater Lincoln community and draw attention to our Savior, Jesus Christ.”

Sixth grader Josh McEwen and fourth grader Kaelee Byh have been selected to have their artwork displayed in the Nebraska State Capitol rotunda during the month of March to commemorate Youth Art Month. A reception was held Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 2:00 PM to honor the artists.

The National History Day Contest was held on Saturday, March 3, 2012. Samantha Timmons won 2nd place for her individual exhibit on George Norris. Joel Mohrman won 1st place for his term paper on Suffrage Reform in the United States.

Both students won $250 scholarships, as well as advancing to the State competition on April 21, 2012.

Congratulations Samantha & Joel!

2012 Class C All-State BandEach year, the Nebraska State Bandmasters Associa-tion recognizes the most gifted high school band members from across the state by selecting the All-State Bands. This year, Lincoln Christian had 29 students named to the Class C All-State Band which is nearly twice the number selected from any other Class C school in the state.

Students who wish to be considered for the group must prepare scales and music to be recorded and sent to judges. The judges listened to 263 recordings from 38 Class C Schools and chose the best of each instru-ment. Those selected got together in Kearney the last week of March for a full day of making music together. They gathered to rehearse with top level collegiate

conductors and perform a final concert at the Kearney High School Auditorium.

Selected from Lincoln Christian were: Flute: Shoko Tabata, Brenna Mills, Susanna Zach, Juliana Meyers, Tiffany Miles; Clarinet: Andrea Jones, Jake Ludwig; Bass Clarinet: Cole Chancellor, Cheyenne Ackman; Trumpet: Chase Stokey, Joel Mohrmann, Amanda Bond, Josh Buresh; Trombone: Jon Schaefer, John Haas, Tanner Schwaninger; Baritone: Tyler Tuve-son; Saxophone: Nate Free, Sara Gronewold, Jordyn Jensen, Patrick Wells; Tuba: Laura Williams; French Horn: Dani Andersen, D’Anna Attanasio, Bells: Emma Haas, Shannon Montague; Guitar: Hailey Can-field; Bass Guitar: Caleb Kugel; and Trap Set: Ty Grove.

Class of 2012The Class of 2012 has been blessed by God with some amazing athletic ability and will be missed. Many of our seniors will be participating in college athletics next year. Pictured are: Tyler Tuveson, (Doane College Football); Andrew Huffman, (Utah State Football); J.D. Freeman (University of Nebraska-Kearney Football); Levi Gipson, (University of Nebraska-Lincoln Track); Cole Dworak, (Doane College Football); and Grant Teckmeyer, (Drake University Football).

Jesse MillsJesse Mills has accepted an offer of admission to the United States Military Academy at West Point, Class of 2016. After receiving a Letter of Assurance in September, Jesse was notified of his appointment by Lieutenant General David H. Huntoon, Academy Superintendent. He obtained congressional nominations from Congressman Jeff Fortenberry and Senators Mike Johanns and Ben Nelson in January. Jesse reports to West Point on July 2. His parents, Steve and Danelle, echo the words of General Douglas MacArthur as Jesse undertakes this commitment to future service: “Build (us) a son whose heart will be clear, whose goal will be high; a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men; one who will learn to laugh, yet never forget how to weep; one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past.”

On Thursday, May 3, at 6:00 p.m. the Lincoln Christian School Foundation will be hosting the third annual Family Education Grant Dinner in the elementary gym. The event focus this year is how to “Equip the Next Generation” and to say thank you to our many faithful donors. This event raises the funds necessary to assist over 90 families who are not able to afford the full cost of a Christ-centered

education. Last year’s event raised over $315,000 in grants for the school. If you would like to host a table, attend, or help with the event, please contact Mark Powell at 402-488-8888 x224 or [email protected]

Many Hearts * One Vision Campaign UpdateThe campaign fundraising contin-ues as the finishing touches of the new instrumental music room and track are being completed. Many Hearts * One Vision focuses on three areas of need: a brand new track facility, expanded and im-proved music space, and eliminat-ing the remaining school debt. For years the Lincoln Christian track team has been known as the “Park-ing Lot and Field Team” and very much needed a track of their own. The new music space has now doubled the existing music space. The expansion was also much needed as almost 80% of

Lincoln Christian students par-ticipate in the music program in very over-crowded conditions.

Currently, $715,000 of the $1,000,000 goal has been pledged with the campaign slated to end on August 15, 2012. To make pledges or gifts to Many Hearts * One Vision, you can donate on-line at www.lincolnchristian.org or contact Mark Powell at 402.488-8888 x 224.

We thank our generous donors and we give praise to Christ for providing these two new facilities for our students.

AllegroDevelopment Notes

The Allegro String Ensemble was formed in the fall of 2011, comprised of our advanced level LCS string players. “Allegro” has played in venues all over the Lincoln area. Adapting the meaning of ‘Allegro’ - “full of life”, the group proudly represents LCS and Jesus Christ, wearing John 10:10b on their shirts as they perform: “(Jesus said) I have come that you might have life, and have it more abudantly.”

This year in 7th and 8th grade science, Mrs. Kubik (science teacher) has been inviting speakers to come visit the classroom to give students exposure to careers in science. This year the students have heard from two behavioral scientists, a mechanical engineer, a bio-chemical engineer, and now a meteorologist! Brad Anderson from 10/11 News visited the school on February 8, 2012.

7th & 8th Grade

I have had a number of supporters, families, and even students tell me that they could never do the job of Development Director. I always ask what they mean and they usually state something like, “you know, asking people for money or always having to be fundraising for the school.” At this, I usually chuckle and share with them that God is our fundraiser and that

my very limited role, which also happens to be the best job on the planet, is to be a faithful sower. This usually draws a response of “what do you mean?”

Allow me to explain. A sower is responsible for sowing good seed. The “seed” is sharing with our supporters and alumni the amazing things that Jesus Christ is doing at Lincoln Christian, and stewarding them to be generous with the many resources that He has richly blessed us.

Supporters of Lincoln Christian are given the amazing opportunity by God to not only participate, but to further His Kingdom. If you think about it, the only thing you can take with you to Heaven is souls. Why not arrive in eternity with all your kids, all their friends and teammates, all your grandkids, and maybe even a few students and families you won’t even meet until you get to Heaven?

I’m not just talking about money, as unbelievable investments also come in the form of prayer and volunteers. I thank God each day for our prayer warriors and all the wonderful volunteers past and present. Lincoln Christian could be long gone or look significantly different today without everyone doing their part of sowing good seed and storing up eternal treasure.

You see, in God’s Kingdom, the most important currency is people. And as you know, He loved each one of us enough to send only His absolute best. In effect, the Lincoln Christian teachers, coaches, staff, and administrators and even the fundraising guy are all accountable for sowing the good seed, but God is responsible for bringing in the harvest. To Him be the Glory for eternity!

Current Lincoln Christian Foundation Needs:

1) Fully fund the Family Education Grant Program for 2011-12; amount needed $120,000.

2) Finish Capital Campaign and eliminate the school’s remaining debt of $350,000.

3) Pray for wisdom regarding upcoming facility improvements, enhancements, and new staffing.

“Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers, but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose

leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.....” - Psalm 1: 1-3
