TECHNIQUES OF VALUE ADDITION ON NONWOVEN

Non-Woven Tech Asia 2015

About ATIRA…

ATIRA – first premier non-profit Textile Institute of the

country set up way back in 1949.

ATIRA was especially established to with objective to

motivate textile & allied industries to become

internationally competitive. ATIRA has been now designated

as “Centre of Excellence” in Composites by the Govt. of

India.

Machineries those are installed at the Incubation Centre, ATIRA

are imported from Germany and Switzerland. Most of the

machinery installed is one of its kinds in India. It’s not possible for

every small or medium scale industry or entrepreneur to have an

exposure to the latest and the best technology.

At the Incubation Centre all latest technologies have come under

one roof. So that one could visit and see the machineries in

operation, have technical discussion and take trials if wishes to.

Applications

Packtech

Geotech

Sportech

Textile around us

Nonwovens are as sheets or web structures bonded together by entanglement of fibers or filaments.

Mechanical Manufacturing-

by interlocking felts with serrated needles such that the inter-fiber friction results in strong fabric

Thermal Manufacturing-

applying and melting binder onto web by increasing temperature

Nonwovens

Why Nonwovens ?

Nonwovens are not made by knitting or weaving and do not require converting fibers to yarn

Certain percentage of recycled fabrics can be used while manufacturing nonwovens resulting more economical compared to woven fabrics.

Strength of nonwoven fabric depends on the percentage of the recycled fabric incorporated while manufacturing

Post-processing on Nonwovens

In many of the applications, nonwovens as such can not be used.

Lacks in Strength and required environmental conditions.

Need some further treatment depending on final applications,

Coating on Nonwovens-for packaging, medical, etc…

Lamination on Nonwovens-for filters, insulations, etc…

Coating & Lamination

Incubation Centre at

ATIRA is equipped

with LACOM

KIENER, Germany

Multi-roller coating

and Lamination

machine to serve

nonwoven

industries.

Can Coat / Laminate up to 2.00 mtr width

Hotmelt based machine; no solvent, no water

100% Environment friendly

Thermal bonding also possible

Speed up to 100 mtr/min

Adhesive Compatibility- PUR, POR, Thermoplastics, EVA, Epoxy, PA, etc…

Why Hotmelt ?

Solvent-free (no need to invest heavily in solvent recovery or combustion installations)

Low Energy Consumption (no energy required for curing/drying)

PSA and Heat-activated systems available

High Speed adhesive application possible

High moisture and water resistance

Rapid further processing

Permanent / Nonpermanent adhesive coating

Features:

Good Peel Strength

Waterproof / Water resistivity

*

Breathable *

Soft & many more

* as per requirement of the

application

Why Coating on Nonwovens ?

Hotmelt Dot / Gravure

Lamination

Any design can be achieved

Suitable for Garmenting

Application of low GSM

Ultrasonic welding is also possible on hot-melt coated

nonwovens as the ultrasonic frequency (20 & 35 kHz) with

amplitude (10 µm to 50 µm) activates the molecules of the

hot-melt adhesives to perform binding / welding

Water-Proofness Coating on

Nonwovens for medical

such as apparels, medical

tapes…

Various Metalized BOPP Film

lamination on Nonwoven

fabrics for packaging,

garmenting industries

Aluminum foil to Nonwoven

Lamination for Thermal

Insulation used as

automobile covers, thermal

blankets in industries….
