WHITE STILL LIFE PENCIL DRAWING Objective: to use skills learned in previous projects to create an accurate drawing of objects from observation, to define objects in a drawing by values, shading, and blending, rather than dark outlines, to differentiate objects of similar values with the use of drawing skills Time frame: 4-5 class times Materials: 12x18 white paper, drawing pencils, objects for still life Standards: ART.VA.I.HS.1, ART.VA.I.HS.2, ART.VA.I.HS.3, ART.VA.I.HS.5, ART.VA.II.HS.1, ART.VA.II.HS.2, ART.VA.II.HS.4, ART.VA.II.HS.5, ART.VA.IV.HS.1 Procedures: students will set up a still life in the center of their table using all of the objects included in a white bucket, which will also be part of the still life. Students will then use the skills learned in previous value projects and exercises to draw the still life as accurately as possible, paying careful attention to identifying and defining objects by their values, not by outlining the shapes (since objects in reality do not have outlines around them). The one object of black should be shaded the darkest, the gray shape and peppers should be next, then the remaining objects, which will be a variety of values of white, should be shaded with light values. The challenge will be to identify the differences between the white objects against white objects using values. Vocabulary: still life, shading, blending, overlapping, shadow, cast shadow, 3-dimensional Assessment: students will be assessed on how well they are able to use previous skills learned to recreate the objects of the still life with the use of values and eliminating dark outlines around objects. A variety of values should be used in the creation of this still life design so each object is clearly defined.

WHITE STILL LIFE PENCIL DRAWING

Objective: to use skills learned in previous projects to create an accurate drawing of objects from observation, to define objects in a drawing by values, shading, and blending, rather than dark outlines, to differentiate objects of similar values with the use of drawing skills

Time frame: 4-5 class times

Materials: 12x18 white paper, drawing pencils, objects for still life

Standards: ART.VA.I.HS.1, ART.VA.I.HS.2, ART.VA.I.HS.3, ART.VA.I.HS.5, ART.VA.II.HS.1, ART.VA.II.HS.2, ART.VA.II.HS.4, ART.VA.II.HS.5, ART.VA.IV.HS.1

Procedures: students will set up a still life in the center of their table using all of the objects included in a white bucket, which will also be part of the still life.

Vocabulary: still life, shading, blending, overlapping, shadow, cast shadow, 3-dimensional

Assessment: students will be assessed on how well they are able to use previous skills learned to recreate the objects of the still life with the use of values and eliminating dark outlines around objects. A variety of values should be used in the creation of this still life design so each object is clearly defined.
