3Relocation

RELOCATION TO THE NEW OFFICE

In June 2019, we completed our relocation exercise into the new purpose renovated vehicle training and research centre in Glenmarie, Shah Alam. Located in the hub of many vehicle manufacturer operations, our new centre is fully equipped with three classrooms and a large technical training area that includes hoists, vehicle pulling and measuring equipment, along with welding stations and vehicle components.

Our new centre is a major investment as part of our commitment to our stakeholders to be able to continue to add value, education and training to motor insurers, loss adjusters and vehicle repairers in Malaysia and the region.

THATCHAM GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP

In October, MRC extended its relationship with Thatcham UK by becoming their exclusive Global Associate Partner for the ASEAN region. As a result, MRC is able to gain exclusive access to all of Thatcham’s products, services and research carried out in the UK.

Additionally, the agreement sees MRC being an outsource partner for Thatcham, providing research and data services back to the UK.

The agreement was signed in China at the RCAR conference, between Steve Miller (CEO of MRC) and Jonathan Hewett (CEO of Thatcham UK).

4 2019 Review

Our Research Team successfully provided over 137 new vehicle derivatives of parts data in 2019. We also provided 156 manufacturer parts prices updates in 30 data-base releases that gave updated information on 330,244 franchise parts prices. In 2019 we also provided an alternative parts price database using our data collected to supply an average non-franchise guide price for our customers. In 2019 alone, over 14 million requests for our data where recorded from our partners.

Automotive Research & Database Division

As part of our commitment to providing Malaysian data, we have carried out vehicle repair research for 12 Proton models inclusive of 77 model variants (derivatives). Partnering with Proton staff, we are now supplying vehicle specific repair times for Malaysian vehicles as per our commitment to the industry back in 2016.

Partnering with MIROS, ASEAN NCAP and local universities, MRC has been carrying extensive ”real world” vehicle tests for Advanced Driver Assisted Systems currently available on many Malaysian vehicles.

MRC aims to provide stakeholders with valuable information and feedback as to the operation of such equipment and their effect on our industry.

52019 Review

During 2019, our training department utilized our new location and expanded the range of qualifications we now provide to the industry. We now provide the com-plete range of qualifications and awareness courses for vehicle body repair. This includes estimating, mechanical repair processes, body repair (including welding) alignment and calibration awareness.

MRC is the only accrediting company providing independent vehicle body repair training and in 2019, we have trained over 300 individuals from repairers, loss adjusters and insurance personnel.

MRC IN THE COMMUNITY

Giving back to the community has been one of our corporate social responsibilities to help the less fortunate while featuring group bond-ing activities among our employees.

Last Ramadhan, MRC Malaysia through our sports club organization conducted a breaking fast event with orphans from Rumah Bakti Cahaya Hati in Rawang, Selangor.

We provided contributions in the form of cash donations, household items, groceries and also school supplies for the children.”

This was just one of the many events we held during the year.

9MRC Overseas

As part of our commitment to provide the latest in technology and research to the Malaysian industry, MRC collaborates with its overseas partners as members of RCAR to attend their annual conference and work-ing group meetings throughout the year.

This membership puts together 25 vehicle research centres from around the world to provide strategic repair research to its insur-ance company stakeholders.

This year saw MRC provided two presenta-tions to the 50 delegates who attended the annual RCAR conference in Beijing, China. Over 40 presentations covering subjects such as ADAS, vehicle repairability and damageability, future technologies within motor vehicles and their effect on motor insurance where discussed by the global representatives.

MRC EUROPEAN TRAINING PROGRAMMRC also provided overseas training and industry visits for 12 delegates to France and to the UK in December 2019. This included the CESVIFRANCE research centre, Thatcham UK, and ITAS Automotive Training.

Understanding how an insurance funded research centre in France supports vehicle research for the benefit of their repairers and policy holders was just one of the valu-able insights that was gained from this extensive overseas visit.

With the support of Bank Negara, PIAM and MTA, MRC’s unique position of collecting motor insurance industry claims data allows insurance companies, stakeholders and regulators with detailed and accurate information as to the composite of motor insur-ance claims in Malaysia. This information is vital to enable the industry to accurately plan and strategise in an ever changing and developing industry.

In 2019, MRC officially launched the ICAP business intelligence tool for all insurers. Industry analysis, performance indicators and claims data, all provided in an up-to-date on-line management and reporting tool.

PROVIDING BIG DATA

In 2020, MRC will be launching vehicle specific repair methodology to the industry. Providing accurate repair techniques, information and processes for the vehicle will enable vehicle repairers to confidently and correctly repair the vehicle to pre-accident condition. For insurance companies, this provides security and confidence that the vehicle owner is receiving a safely repaired vehicle in the event of a motor insurance claim.
