Thank you for your dedication to the MS Society. You play an integral role in the fight to end MS; you are an inspiration for other fundraisers, and a leader within the MS Walk community. We truly appreciate your effort and commitment to the cause.
Take a moment to acknowledge your part in the difference being made for people living with MS in Saskatchewan. Provincially, nearly $1.2 million dollars was raised in Saskatchewan in 2017! Of this collective total $552,000 was raised with the Saskatchewan Blue Cross MS Walk! The money you raised helps to support and enhance the quality of our fitness programs, support groups, educational services, and world leading Canadian MS research.
Last year we saw exciting research developments like the discovery that an oral acne medication called Minocycline can reduce the occurrence of further disease activity in people who have experienced an initial attack of MS symptoms and who are at high risk of progressing to definite MS. The MS Society funded this clinical trial nearly 10 years ago and it is exciting that results of this trial have proven successful and now provides those experiencing their first clinical demyelinating event an effective low-cost treatment that reduces the likelihood of developing clinically definitive MS. This is also another testament to the fact that excellent, ethical research can take a great deal of time and resources to concretely prove scientific benefit. In addition to clinical and biological research, the MS Society also funds innovative wellness based research projects. In 2017, Saskatchewan based researchers, Dr. Charity Evans and Dr. Katherine Knox began conducting two different wellness research projects. Dr. Charity Evans is studying the impact of Pilates in multiple sclerosis, while Dr. Katherine Knox is addressing the gap in access to facilities for physical activity by creating a web-based physiotherapy program.
As fundraisers, your dedication, generosity, and efforts continue to make these milestones possible. Thank you!
Each small step you take in the Walk makes a big difference; without you, we wouldn’t be able to keep doing the work we do for the MS community. Please help the MS Society continue to provide hope, outstanding research funding, and support to those living with MS in Saskatchewan and across Canada.
Together we will end MS
