Ms. Karen Strohmeyer September 16. 2013 This week's language lesson is about birthdays because I celebrated mine last week. We read and talked about the book “Happy Birthday, Moon” by Frank Asch. In the story the little bear wants to give the moon a present. He buys the moon a hat and puts it up in a tree so the moon can reach it. Later the bear finds the hat on the ground and thinks the moon gave him a hat as a present too. The bear thinks the moon is talking to him but what he really hears is an echo of his own voice. We practiced talking in an echo microphone. We sang the birthday song and we ate little birthday brownies. We also talked about different kinds of presents and using candles on a cake. Ideas for home: Have a pretend party at home, either a birthday party or tea party. The children can help decorate the room, set the table, prepare the food. As you pretend play or actually act out an activity such as this, ask your child lots of questions and give them one or two step directions to follow. Have conversations about what you are doing, describing the details, sequencing the activity, etc. When you model good play and language skills, your children will imitate you and learn from each experience. This week's language lesson is about birthdays because I celebrated mine last week. We read and talked about the book “Happy Birthday, Moon” by Frank Asch. In the story the little bear wants to give the moon a present. He buys the moon a hat and puts it up in a tree so the moon can reach it. Later the bear finds the hat on the ground and thinks the moon gave him a hat as a present too.
