FLAWLESS MAKEUP THAT’S GOOD FOR YOU: Try mineral foundation

Our Brand Parnter’s:

DELICIOUS FALL SIDE DISHESAnd healthy too!

Hello Beauties!

We are in the throes of fall now, with the cool, crisp weather in the air. It’s always bittersweet to have to pack up the spring/summer clothes and break out the fall/winter clothes. How we miss the easy breezy summer staples, while at the same time love exchanging our sandals and maxi dresses for knee high boots, skinnies and a blazer.

The weather isn’t the only thing that’s changing, we are also changing our name! Going forward, My Shade of Brown will be Our Shade of Brown. We are excited for this change and have several reasons for it. Primarily, we’ve been contacted by so many women around the world (yes world!) that we really aspire to take on a more global approach. In the next few months look for changes on our site, content, social media sites and much more.

We’ll still be the same company, only better!

We look forward to growing with you.

With Peace and Gratitude,Meki and The MSB OSB Team

Jazz Up Your Veggies!

Fall is officially here, and we don’t know about you, but with the cool weather (not to mention all the holidays!) comes the comfort food eating and inevitable weight gain! Cool weather just screams “hearty food”!

While we will definitely will be doing our share of comfort food eating, this time around we’ll also be experimenting with some of our favorite veggies to bulk up on fiber and help us feel full so we don’t over do it with the stuff we should be eating in moderation.

Toss any of these flavor combos to 4 cups of fresh or frozen steamed broccoli florets. Start with 2 tablespoons of your preferred oil (canola is a good one with a neutral flavor), pick any flavor variation below, and enjoy.

Lemon Parmesan

Spicy Anchovy

Add 1tsp grated lemon rind, 2 tbls fresh lemon juice, 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper, salt and black pepper to taste, toss with 3 tbls

Heat oil, 2 tsp chopped thyme, 2tsp grated lemon rind, 3/4 tsp crushed red pepper, 1/4 tsp kosher salt, 3 minced garlic cloves and 2 drained and minced anchovy fillets in a small skillet over medium heat. Cook 2 minutes or until garlic begins to sizzle. Add broccoli, toss to coat.

Garlic and Red PepperHeat oil, 3 sliced garlic cloves, and 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper in a skillet on med-high heat. Suate 1 minute. Toss with broccoli and salt to taste.

Looking to change the way you cook cauliflower? This is by far one of our easiest and most favorite recipe. Use 4 cups frozen or fresh (though fresh is tastier in this case)

Curried CauliflowerToss cauliflower with 2 tbls of olive oil, curry powder, we like to use LOTS of it, (but use what you’re comfortable with) and Kosher or Sea Salt to taste. Bake in oven for 45 minutes

Hair. It’s a topic often s p o k e n , d e b a t e d , a n d anguished about in our community. There have been movies, documentaries, and countless blogs and articles dedicated to the subject of our hair.

Thankfully, in the last couple of years, embracing our hair in it’s natural state has been a huge movement. And while we love what “going natural” means to so many women and how empowered it makes them feel, we also respect and love the women who walk to the beat of their own drum and unapologetically rock a sleek, relaxed ‘do!

In the end, the beauty of our hair is we have so many options. So whether you’re relaxed or natural, the focus s h o u l d r e a l l y b e o n maintaining a healthy head of hair!

Healthy Hair! Caring for Your Hair

Did you know that for both natural and relaxed hair, the two things

you need to do most often is moisturize and deep condition? Each type of hair has its on unique needs see below for ways in which

relaxed hair and natural hair are the same and different differences.

Some of these may surprise you!

Relaxed Hair• Co-washing is a great way to cleanse w/o

stripping hair of moisture• If you just can’t get rid of shampoo, use

sulfate free and as much as possible alcohol free shampoo

• Leave-in conditioners should be used once

a day (sounds counter intuitive, but trust us)

• Because relaxers leave hair weakened, dry, brittle and breaks down the natural

protein in hair, using a protein treatment at

least once a week is very important.• Refrain from using heat too often

Natural Hair• Co-washing is a great way to cleanse w/o

stripping hair of moisture• If you just can’t get rid of shampoo, use

sulfate free and as much as possible alcohol free shampoo

• Leave-in conditioners should be used once

a day• Hair is in natural state, protein treatments

not really necessary, can do once a month if hair appears strong and in good

condition

We fell in love with mineral makeup over 2 years ago with Lamik

Cosmetics, and since then our love has only grown deeper. Over the

years the choices, quality and pigmentation of mineral makeup - from eye

shadow to powder foundation, has only gotten better.      This month we have

Elegant Minerals SFP 15 Powder Foundation in our box.

As the weather gets cooler and the sun is less visible, it’s easy to forget

to put on sunscreen. With a mineral foundation with an SPF of 15,

you’re doing your skin a favor by protecting it from the harmful effects

of the sun. And despite what many think, our brown skin needs

protection too.

Flawless Skin with Mineral MakeupGETTING THE MOST FROM YOUR MINERAL FOUNDATION

If you’re not familiar with mineral makeup, you might find the loose

powder strange and difficult to work with, rest assured, you’ll be a pro in

no time. Here are a few tips to get you on your way -

• A little goes a long way, so use sparingly

• Great for oily skin! Get a good quality facial brush and dust all

over your face for great oil control.

• Mix the mineral foundation with your daily moisturizer in the palm

of your handfor a custom tinted moisturizer. The beauty of the mineral foundation is even if the color is a few shades off, mixing it

with your moisturizer allows you to get use of it.

• Mineral makeup is highly versatile. You can use your foundation

as a highlighter or an eyeshadow or mix in some lip balm and use

as a lipstick/gloss!
