Mt. Olive Board Meeting 6:30 pm Tuesday, March 19, 2012 Board Members Present: Steve Lewis, Dave Kamke, Ann Micholic, Brad Murphy, Steve Pergande, David Phelps, Sue Sasman, Kathy Strasser, Jeff Zriny Staff Present: Ruth Fredenberg, Ray Connor Call to Order – Strasser Meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm Devotion – Dave Kamke Dave opened our meeting with a devotion. Introduction of Steve Lewis Minutes of January Meeting – Kathy Strasser The minutes from February MMC Meeting. Steve Pergande made a motion to approve, Sue Sasman seconded. APPROVED Financials Ruth presented an overview of the January and February financials. January income was behind by $6,897 but February was ahead of budget by $6,514. Giving for Imagine Campaign is doing well so far and we have had $6,353 given that wasn’t pledged. Ruth reviewed the Capital projects expenditures. There have been quite a few projects that have been unexpected regarding Building Security and drainage problems from the parking lot. Jeff Zriny made a motion to approve, Brad Murphy seconded. APPROVED Senior Pastor Report – Pastor Ray Human Resource Update: The Job description for the new Admin position for worship will be posted after Easter. Dave opened our meeting with a devotion. Introduction of Steve Lewis Minutes of January Meeting – Kathy Strasser

The minutes from February MMC Meeting. Steve Pergande made a motion to approve, Sue Sasman seconded. APPROVED

Financials Ruth presented an overview of the January and February financials. January income was behind by $6,897 but February was ahead of budget by $6,514. Giving for Imagine Campaign is doing well so far and we have had $6,353 given that wasn’t pledged.

Ruth reviewed the Capital projects expenditures. There have been quite a few projects that have been unexpected regarding Building Security and drainage problems from the parking lot. Jeff Zriny made a motion to approve, Brad Murphy seconded. APPROVED

Senior Pastor Report – Pastor Ray Human Resource Update: The Job description for the new Admin position for worship will be posted after Easter. Several good resume’s have been received for the New Children’s Ministry position.

Financial Actions: Revenue is ahead for the month of February. Rekeying the church is a priority for security reasons. South Parking Lot and foundation leakage quotes are coming.

Ministry: Planning is underway for Holy Week and Easter. Youth in Action was a success with over 41k raised. Cudo’s to Pastor Lance and the team. New members weekend is April 20 & 21. Veggietales tickets are slightly behind. Mount Olive is hosting a Bone Marrow Drive on May 11 & 12. Sidewalk Prophets and Josh Wilson Concert is May 18th. Mt. Olive will be participating in Reach Out Weston on July 21st.

Goal Status: Looking forward to new administration position in place. Planning for post-Easter preaching and gearing up for Summer activities.

Old Business Congregational Communication

Kathy shared a copy of the communication that will be distributed to the congregation. Several suggestions were shared to improve the communication tool and Kathy will finalize the document and send it to the MMC for a final review. The final draft will be sent out in May.

Policy Manual Revisions Kathy reviewed a few adjustments in the area of Executive session and fiscal accounting. These revisions will be brought to the April MMC meeting.

Bylaw Revisions

Bylaw revisions regarding a meeting quorum and the nominating process for the MMC members will be finalized and brought to the MMC in April.

New Business What does “Progressive” mean?

Within Mount Olive Church, the tenants of the church are very much conservative. The term “progressive” represents churchs that choose non-traditional “contemporary” direction for worship while maintaining the conservative tenants of the Missouri Synod churches. Pastor Ray shared a document that reviews the EPIC worship and will be part of our future discussions with the Post Modern Pilgrim book that we will begin discussion in April.

Executive Session Ruth was asked to be dismissed while the Board met in Executive Session.

Dave opened our meeting with a devotion. Introduction of Steve Lewis Minutes of January Meeting – Kathy Strasser

The minutes from February MMC Meeting. Steve Pergande made a motion to approve, Sue Sasman seconded. APPROVED

Financials Ruth presented an overview of the January and February financials. January income was behind by $6,897 but February was ahead of budget by $6,514. Giving for Imagine Campaign is doing well so far and we have had $6,353 given that wasn’t pledged.

Ruth reviewed the Capital projects expenditures. There have been quite a few projects that have been unexpected regarding Building Security and drainage problems from the parking lot. Jeff Zriny made a motion to approve, Brad Murphy seconded. APPROVED

Senior Pastor Report – Pastor Ray Human Resource Update: The Job description for the new Admin position for worship will be posted after Easter. Several good resume’s have been received for the New Children’s Ministry position.

Financial Actions: Revenue is ahead for the month of February. Rekeying the church is a priority for security reasons. South Parking Lot and foundation leakage quotes are coming.

Ministry: Planning is underway for Holy Week and Easter. Youth in Action was a success with over 41k raised. Cudo’s to Pastor Lance and the team. New members weekend is April 20 & 21. Veggietales tickets are slightly behind. Mount Olive is hosting a Bone Marrow Drive on May 11 & 12. Sidewalk Prophets and Josh Wilson Concert is May 18th. Mt. Olive will be participating in Reach Out Weston on July 21st.

Goal Status: Looking forward to new administration position in place. Planning for post-Easter preaching and gearing up for Summer activities.

Policy Manual Revisions Kathy reviewed a few adjustments in the area of Executive session and fiscal accounting. These revisions will be brought to the April MMC meeting.

Bylaw Revisions

Bylaw revisions regarding a meeting quorum and the nominating process for the MMC members will be finalized and brought to the MMC in April.

Within Mount Olive Church, the tenants of the church are very much conservative. Policy Manual Revisions Kathy reviewed a few adjustments in the area of Executive session and fiscal accounting. These revisions will be brought to the April MMC meeting.

Bylaw Revisions

Bylaw revisions regarding a meeting quorum and the nominating process for the MMC members will be finalized and brought to the MMC in April.

New Business What does “Progressive” mean?

Within Mount Olive Church, the tenants of the church are very much conservative. The term “progressive” represents churchs that choose non-traditional “contemporary” direction for worship while maintaining the conservative tenants of the Missouri Synod churches. Pastor Ray shared a document that reviews the EPIC worship and will be part of our future discussions with the Post Modern Pilgrim book that we will begin discussion in April.

Dave opened our meeting with a devotion. Introduction of Steve Lewis Minutes of January Meeting – Kathy Strasser

The minutes from February MMC Meeting. Steve Pergande made a motion to approve, Sue Sasman seconded. APPROVED

Financials Ruth presented an overview of the January and February financials. January income was behind by $6,897 but February was ahead of budget by $6,514. Giving for Imagine Campaign is doing well so far and we have had $6,353 given that wasn’t pledged.

Ruth reviewed the Capital projects expenditures. There have been quite a few projects that have been unexpected regarding Building Security and drainage problems from the parking lot. Jeff Zriny made a motion to approve, Brad Murphy seconded. APPROVED

Senior Pastor Report – Pastor Ray Human Resource Update: The Job description for the new Admin position for worship will be posted after Easter. Several good resume’s have been received for the New Children’s Ministry position.

Financial Actions: Revenue is ahead for the month of February. Rekeying the church is a priority for security reasons. South Parking Lot and foundation leakage quotes are coming.

Ministry: Planning is underway for Holy Week and Easter. Youth in Action was a success with over 41k raised. Cudo’s to Pastor Lance and the team. New members weekend is April 20 & 21. Veggietales tickets are slightly behind. Mount Olive is hosting a Bone Marrow Drive on May 11 & 12. Sidewalk Prophets and Josh Wilson Concert is May 18th. Mt. Olive will be participating in Reach Out Weston on July 21st.

Goal Status: Looking forward to new administration position in place. Planning for post-Easter preaching and gearing up for Summer activities.
