BRANCH MEETING PREVIEW

Jin Joo Hong is a sophomore at the Eastman School of Music, has been studying piano for over ten years and is currently under the tutelage of Professor Rebecca Penneys. Ms. Hong’s passion for musical perfor-mance was inspired by her teacher Dr. KookHee Hong.

In 2013 at the MTAC State Convention, Jin Joo was one of six young artists presented as a Young Artist Guild member. She was also awarded the Natensted Award for her excellent essay, and the Plumb Award for the most outstanding performer among the young artists.

Jin Joo has been awarded top prizes in various competitions including the Diamond Bar Performing Arts Contest, the Musical Arts Club’s com-petition, and the Southwestern Youth Music Festival’s open Concerto. She has received awards for special recognition in performance from Congressman Ed Royce and Assemblyman Curt Hagman. This perfor-mance was broadcast on Sundays Live Music and Classical KUSC. She has also appeared as soloist with the Korean Symphony Orchestra and the Southern California Philharmonic.

Jin Joo has performed in master classes for prestigious teachers includ-ing Dr. Lidia Boguslavsky, Dr. Edna Golandsky, Dr. Marc Silverman, Dr. Min Kwon, Dr. Martin Canin, Dr. Pavlina Dokovska and Dr. Soloman Mikowsky.

In addition to piano studies, Jin Joo was a violinist and served as first violinist in her high school orchestra. She was also in a chamber music group coached by Professor Alexander Suleiman. Aside from her music life, Jin Joo enjoys reading, writing and watching classic movies and musicals.

Make sure that your student’s repertoire is at or above their CM level. One piece must be chosen from their CM level repertoire list.

If a piece is listed under the composer list with a “not” it can not be used for the Level unless the piece can be found in an Anthology for the Level and the Anthology does not have a “not” for it. Then the piece may be used. Golden rule: If in doubt about repertoire, do not use it! Current CM Policy regarding Automatic Remain at Level (RAL) and Ineligible for Certifi-cate (IC) is listed on p.18 of Syllabus.

If you have any piano repertoire questions or concerns, please contact Ma-rina Sakach, [email protected].

Refer to “Branch Documents” on our branch website for more information. The deadline will be 3 weeks prior to the recital or the first 15 students to register (whichever happens first). No performance certificate will be given if solo music is not memorized.

Reminder: Teachers may enter only 2 students per recital. Please do not enter the same student twice (solo + duet) in one recital. (Two duet teams per teacher are allowed.) Teachers are not allowed to perform duets (four-hand piano mu-sic) with their students. It is acceptable for teachers to accompany their students for different instruments or voice.
