Introduction

The appropriate quantity and quality of physical activity is one of the important factors which directly influence health, performance and rational daily routine. In the civilized society, negative consequences of changes in our life style need to be balanced by well performed physical stimulation. Spontaneous motoric and recreational physical activities, as well as purposeful sport exercises play their significant role in compensation of the lack of movement which is much more obvious nowadays then it was in the past.

Cycling – health, cycling – education, cycling - socialization .

Primary goal: To provide an opportunity for deaf pupils to perform

cyclotourism, which has not only educational and social function but also its health supporting and regeneration input.

We proclaim that it is crucial to integrate as many children as possible into the regular sport activity with efficient ballast and frequency.

Even one of such activity can be of the real importance for the cardiovascular condition, formation of morale and volitional traits, for the regeneration of mental and physical potential, and for the prevention against civilization or nonspecific diseases, as well as in effective utilization of leisure time.

By now, our activities have been limited because of the lack of financial resources from which we could buy bikes for the children from socially lower class, and so out of the whole number of pupils of Special basic school of Viliam Gaňo and DeD Maurícius only a few of them can participate in this sport.

Secondary goals: To participate in the creation of the opportunities for cycling of

deaf children – to buy bikes for children whose families cannot afford it.

To adapt school area for the purposes of preparation exercises.

To develop somatic and mental abilities through MTB (i.e. Mountain Biking).

To perform cyclotourism activities, methodical and material-technical activities – field of education.

To support public activities which create conditions for healthy cycling exercise (i.e. maintenance of cycling trails).

To prepare school website which would advertise healthy life style through the form of active MTB.

To organize competitions connected with cycling for children, parents and school supporters.

Seminary for parents about the activities connected with MTB at school.

Target group:

Pupils of Special basic school of Viliam Gaňo and children from DD Maurícius in Kremnica who are going to take active part in competition - MTB Cremnicium 2006.

There are going to be competitors from special basic schools for deaf children in /Bratislava, Prešov, Kremnica, Levoča, Lučenec and Nitra/, as well as approximately 20 pupils from the common basic schools in the surrounding of Kremnica.

Ideal possibilities for cyclotourism in the surrounding of Kremnica.

„Deafbike“ Is the name of the course in which auditory impaired boys

and girls at the age from 8 to 15 perform cycling activities in the spacious, well maintained, healthy and beautiful area of school and dormitory and also in the surrounding of Kremnica.

The goal of the activities is directed towards fulfillment of partial goals of the suggested project and experiencing the associations cycling – health, cycling – education, cycling - socialization. Except of pupils attending the course there is also close cooperation with the Center of leisure time “Cvrček“ in Kremnica which has been developing cycling in the surrounding of Kremnica and also organizes several Slovak competitions.

According to the representatives of Slovak deaflympic committee “the project outstandingly fulfills current requirements of physical development of children and teenagers, especially those with such a difficult handicap as is deafness.“

MTB Cremnicium Cup Competition Since 23th of September – 24th of September 2006

participants of Deafbike course are going to take part in the biggest event for auditory handicapped individuals in mountain cycling, which is the top event of regular sport activity.

The organizer of this competition is Special basic school of Viliam Gaňo, which has rich experience with a successful realization of Winter sport games with its national and positive impact on the community of auditorily handicapped pupils.

Co organizer of the competition is Slovak Deaflympic committee, which is the member of Deaflympiscs, EDSO, I.C.S.C, the most successful Slovak deaflympionic cyclist - Július Maťovčík, the Center of leisure time “Cvrček“ in Kremnica, DD Marícius and other organizations.

Deaflympcs in Melbourne 2005

Since 5th – 16th of January 2005, Slovak deaf athletes have participated in the world biggest sport event for deaf sportsmen – Deaflympics, where there was more than 3500 athletes from 85 countries all over the world. 

Slovak republic was represented by 5 athletes. Even though they did not win any medal, they bravely represented our country.

The best of the Slovak deaflympionics was cyclist Július Maťovčík, who among the strong international competition won 4th price in 1000 m sprint. During the Deaflympics in Melbourne, there was held the congress where Slovakia was successfully nominated for the organization of the World winter deaflympics in 2011.
