Muenster School Newsletter January 2018 Principal’s Message Happy New Year everyone! I trust that the holiday season went well for all and that you were able to spend some restful time with your families. Too bad the weather was so cold! Our Christmas Concert held December 21 went very well. A huge thank you to our staff for their efforts in preparing the students. Once again a job well done by all involved! Also, thank you to Mr. Bartel and our Grade 11 class for their work in preparing and serving lunch for our seniors on December 15. Aside from curling, January tends to be a bit of a slower month in school. Please note that Semester 1 will end on January 30 and High School Report Cards (Grades 7-12) go home on February 1. January 31 is a Non-Instructional Day and therefore no school for students. Semester 2 will begin on February 1 (Day 3). Brent Loehr, our Career Counselor, has requested that I include a link to our scholarship website: https://fundingforschool.wordpress.com . Every student in grade 10-12 is made aware of this website multiple times each year (in group and individual sessions). Each year we have tens of thousands of dollars awarded to students who have applied after finding applicable scholarships on this site. From January 15 – 17, our High School hallways will be adorned with tapestries from a travelling exhibition from the Juno Beach Centre called “From Vimy to Juno”. The public is welcome to come to view this display during school hours. There is no charge, but please report to the office upon your arrival. To all our school families, best wishes throughout 2018! Grade Three & Four News

Happy New Year from the Grade 3/4 class! January looks like it’s going to be a quiet month, which is nice after the holiday season. In ELA, we are moving back into our reading groups. All groups are reading nonfiction expository selections about animals. We will also be working on descriptive writing and common and proper nouns. Both classes are working hard on their Math units. The Grade 3’s are currently tackling 2 and 3 digit subtraction, while the Grade 4’s are figuring out different strategies to help them multiply and divide. New units are beginning in Science (Light), Social Studies (Communities Around the World), and Health (Safety). It’s going to be a great month! Stay warm!

Grade One News

Mattie – I will help my mother. Joshua – I will put mom and dad’s dishes in the dishwasher all-day and everyday. Kamara – I am going to help Jayla everyday. Annika – My New Year’s resolution is to make people happy. Taylor – I will help people. Jozie – I will read and help people. Jameson – I will help Ray. Austin – I help. Jasmine – Helping people when they are hurt. Cooper - Help. Hunter – I will be a good hockey player. Bella – I will help my mom. Maddix – My resolution is to help people. Zander – I will learn to be a hockey player.

Grade Two News

The grade two class is eager to be back at school after Christmas holidays and are ready to work hard this January. This month we are excited to welcome a new student to our classroom. Welcome Nicolas, we are happy to have you in grade 2! Throughout January, we will be busy reading about snowmen, making snowmen in art, and doing some snowman writing. In math, we are finishing a unit on measurement and will be moving on to addition and subtraction soon. Mrs. Niekamp
