Mulberry HouseMulberry House dates back to the late 17th Century and is Grade II listed. It has a most attractive front elevation with the central entrance door having a triangular pediment with Tuscan columns. The present owners purchased the property in 2010 and have updated the property and re-designed the walled gardens.

The interior has many period features appropriate to the period. There are wonderful polished flagstone floors, ornate and simple ceiling cornices, dado rails, working window shutters, sash windows, panelled doors, and period fireplaces. The restoration has been carried out preserving and enhancing all period features.

All bathrooms and shower rooms have been re-placed and all windows have either been replaced or refurbished. The interior has a warm atmosphere, elegantly redecorated and all rooms have an attractive open outlook over its grounds.

The generous reception hall has large polished flagstones. Either side, the well-proportioned drawing room and dining/music room both have period fireplaces fitted with a Jetmaster fire, face east overlooking the front lawn and lovely walled gardens. The sitting room with bay window and log burning stove faces south and west and overlooks the main garden and a flagstone walled courtyard.

A farmhouse style kitchen/breakfast room has a gas fire Aga and fitted with a range of purpose built painted wood units. Appliances include two built-in refrigerators and dishwasher. A rear hall with secondary staircase gives access to the home office with oak floor and beamed ceiling.

On the first floor the 24’ principal bedroom has an en suite bath/shower room with window seat. There are four further bedrooms, a shower room and bathroom on this floor. The rear landing gives access to the second floor via the secondary staircase where there is a further bedroom with an en suite bathroom.

OutsideThe walled gardens are a delight and in the past have been opened for a fundraising event entitled, “Wedmore’s Hidden Gardens”. They have been designed in a Victorian garden style to give all year around colour.

The front walled garden has a large expanse of level lawn with inset shrubbery beds, a variety of mature trees including two Mulberry trees and borders of flowering shrubs.

A high stone wall beside the garage has a timber door opening to the more formal walled “secret” garden which is surrounded by high stone walls and is south and west facing. It is most attractively designed for interest, colour, and texture. There is a level shaped lawn, pathways, deep shaped herbaceous borders and topiary. Manicured yew hedging separates the lawn from a well planned kitchen garden with ten beds laid between lawn paths. There is a soft fruit cage, and an asparagus bed. Fruit trees include quince, pear, greengage, apple and espalier Victoria plum. Raised stone beds and central stone steps lead down to a flagstone terrace immediately outside the south and west of the house which provides an ideal space for entertaining and barbecues. A wrought iron gate in a stone wall leads to an inner dog proof courtyard, outside the boot room. A green house has been restored and rebuilt in the style of a Victorian green house. There is a stone outbuilding at the rear of the garage providing a garden store.
