Page 2: Multiple exposures

What is a multiple exposure?

0Several different approaches0 Multiple Exposure in Camera0 Multiple Exposure in Photoshop0 Blended Exposures vs. Multiplicity

0Layered images0Same scene shot several times0Can be single subject or multiple subject0Photoshop used to blend layers together and create

impression of multiplicity or blended pictures0Can be done with any kind of camera

Page 3: Multiple exposures

MultiplicitySingle setting, shot several times with the subject moving each time.

Page 4: Multiple exposures

Blended ExposuresTwo different shots, blended together to create a single image.

Can be done in-camera or in photoshop (depending on the camera).

Page 5: Multiple exposures

Multiplicity, multiple subjectsSeveral different frames, blended together, with more than one subject.

Page 6: Multiple exposures

Shooting for multiplicity

0Set up your scene0Frame your shot

0 Check your background0 Eliminate distractions0 Make sure everything “fits”

0Set up your tripod0 Mount camera

0Adjust your settings0 White balance0 Shutter/ISO/F Stop

Page 10: Multiple exposures

Shooting for multiplicity

0Take several series of photos0 Make sure your subject moves enough to not overlap0 Make sure the differences in each “stage” are drastically

different0Go through the process several times, marking the

start and end with a dead frame0 Any change in settings, light, etc. will make it so your

images won’t blend together correctly

Page 11: Multiple exposures

Multiplicity Project

0 Groups of 3

0 Same boundaries 0 (hot lava, etc.)0 This will be easier if you shoot

inside

0 Each person will have a “scenario” that they shoot & edit0 Each scenario needs the subject

to appear at least 4 times

Settings

0 ISO0 Probably 400

0 F Stop0 Depends on shutter

0 Shutter0 If you want to stop

action, it needs to be fast0 White Balance

0 Depends on where you are
