QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Always remember that you are

unique just like everyone else.”

MARGARET MEAD

STAGE 5 ENGLISH

Stage Five jury members have delivered their first verdict in the Term

Three High Court of English preceded over by Judge Ogg. After

careful consideration they, the jury, have determined; by the balance

of probabilities, the insanity of Norwegian artist Edvard Munch: the first

the accused. In a frantic frenzy of cold case deliberations Stage Five

English students are acting as the jury for a number of cases. Using a

range of contextual information on the composer (accused), as well

as studying and critically analysing texts, students are determining the

purpose, emotional composition, and overriding tone of provided text

(evidence samples) in order to connect with the composer. Stage

Five have been using new and developing English related skills as well

as critical reflection and textual evidence to back their claims, and

are carrying out significant discussion to explain their points of view.

For a jury they are coming

across as a dil igent,

thoughtful, and empathetic

cohort - just as we know

them to be. One accused

down, two to go.

NEVILLE THORNE SHIELD

Northern Border Seniors Access entered a bunch of NO names into the Neville Thorne Shield in Walgett

and hoped for the best. By the end of the tournament they had new names like, Grand final

Runner-up, courage, never giving up, mateship, heart and guts. This team is the bunch of NRL

‘wannabes’ who you see playing at the back oval every lunch time rain, hail or shine trying to emulate

the players they see on the big screen.

Their performances in reaching the grand final against a very strong Peel team were phenomenal with

just an ounce of luck.

Kayleb: emerged as a leader whose confidence and performance grew with every game. Possessed

with razzle and dazzle attack and crunching defence.

Shane: a player with untapped natural ability whose self belief grew with every game. A new Shane

emerged at the end of day. When the Peel team absolutely demolished Shane a few times the old

Shane would have called it a day. The new Shane just sucked it up and got back in the ring again.

The ‘Human Stick’ Jack: started the day at dummy half but finished the day as a pseudo front rower

because he liked running over human beings so much. Often mistaken for a golf club when standing

sideways, Jack demonstrated a steel and strength that belied his size. Proving a ferocious defender

and runner of the ball and handful for players who were twice his size.

Henry: a huge fan of the band Boney M, was run over by a concrete truck in a few games but tried his

best and can only get better. Henry is champing at the bit to play in Bourke.

PRESCHOOL CAPERS

This week has been a very big week.

On Monday the Locke family donated 6 little lambs for

the children to rescue as their mums stopped feeding

them. We are feeding them 3 times a day. All the

children are enjoying feeding and playing with the

lambs. Due to these new visitors the children are

wishing to learn more about farming. We are looking at

what happens on farms and what products we get from

farming.

On Wednesday we visited the Town Library for Book Week Story Time. We all had the opportunity to

dress up as a super hero, listen to a book about Super Man and participate in craft activities. After the

Library, we visited business houses down the street. We looked at what products are in each shop

and look at what they do. We also got to have lunch at the café.

Coming Up

Jeremy: great story teller on the bus but had

little to say except “Ouch” when crunched

by the oversized Peel High School

behemoths, the tournament was a learning

experience for Jeremy. Produced solid

performances which can only get better now

he has had a taste of ‘real footy’. Jeremy will

step up another level when the team plays in

Bourke.

Frankie: Rugby League rookie. But worked up

a great combination with Brock to keep the

boys watered during breaks. Has a great

step and fend but still got smash tackled by

his sister during a game at the end of Term 2

at Moree RSL. Patrons still walk past the site of

the tackle and whisper in hushed tones, “Yep that’s Frankie’s dent in the ground”.

Brock: Another Rugby League Rookie with a great laugh. Worked tirelessly with Frankie keeping the

boys watered during breaks. Dug deep so he was also able to have a ball and tackle shields ready for

the team. A tough competitor but brother Kayleb proved too strong for him during the Iron Man- Steal

The Ball competition.

BOOK WEEK PARADE

29 days is the official countdown until the 19 September which is Mungindi

Central School’s 2019 Book Day, and I for one can’t wait! Is it that there is

an opportunity to dress up which makes the day fabulous, or being able to

celebrate a form of art which carries us away and teaches us about

anything and everything we wish to know? I don’t know but I know books

are great, and so is Book Day at Mungindi Central School! This year the

theme is “Reading is my superpower”. We all know that Ms Ogg has

oodles of superpowers to choose from, but what is yours? Start thinking

about it in anticipation. Maybe you could complete the find-a-word to see if your superpower is there?

Signing off with my quote for today,

Brains love books like cookie monster loves cookies.
