♦ Two ministries are the most principal: Μinistry of Interior and Ministry of Education and Religion.♦ Two laws are the most principal: Law of 2006 and Law of 2010 (Kallikratis’ Law).♦ With the Kallikratis’ Law many responsibilities have been transferred from prefectures and regions to municipalities.

Municipality’s schools
♦ Municipality of kordelio-Evosmos is the second biggest municipality of Central Macedonia with a current population of approximately 150,000. ♦ There are 108 schools (81 in primary education and 27 in secondary education) within the municipality and the student community is around 17,000 pupils.♦ Kordelio-Evosmos is one of the few municipalities which operates morning shift for schools .

Responsibilities of municipality (department of education-lifelong learning) associated with schools
1. There is a municipal committee that selects and evaluates the land value and the location in order to build schools (2 pre- primary schools, 2 primary schools and 2 high schools). 2. Municipality has also the authority to expropriate lands for the same purpose (1 pre-primary school, 1 primary school and 1 high-school).

associated with schools3. Municipality rents properties for building school infrastructures (3 pre-primary schools, 1 high school).4. Currently, Μunicipality has signed an official agreement with the School Building Organisation for the construction of two primary schools.

5. Municipality supervises and controls Parents Association.6. Municipality allocates funds to School Committees for the repairing, maintening and cleaning of school buildings.Before Kallikratis’ Law each school had its own School Committee. Kallikratis’ Law merges all School Committees in two (one for the Primary Education and one for the Secondary Education).Each School Committee is composed of a Board of fifteen members (aldermen, school directors, parent representatives and residents etc).

Municipality may allot the school buildings using them for other activities and purposes or for special events of common interest in cooperation with the competent authorities ( school director, the School Committee and the Municipal Education Commission). 8.Municipal buses transport pupils (approximately 950) from home to school. This sevice is also available for students with special needs.

9. Municipality can also cover school needs and transfer people by renting private cars, as it required .10. Municipality has its own Road Safety Community Park that offers pupils a valuable opportunity to learn about proper road safety (mainly kindergardens and primary schools).11. Municipality organizes cultural festivals and encourages schools to participate to cultural activities like theatre performances, sporting events etc.

Municipality, establishes collaborations with schools in order to promote cultural and educational exchanges at national, European and international level.14. associated with schools15. Municipality plans and ensures the implementation of policies, programs and actions to support the pupils in primary and secondary education.16. Municipality offers an Environmental Education Centre and cooperates with it in order to implement programs (for example recycling cooking).17. Municipality suggests for temporary cessation of courses because of extraordinary circumstances or an epidemic.

Municipality takes part in competitions organised by companies aiming the renovation of schools. 20. Municipality receives equipment founded by European Union for rehabilitation classes and special schools .

associated with schools21. Municipality established successfully the Second Chance School for third consecutive year where the student participation is ascending (30 adults took in June school diploma).
