Muntra the ultimate Mantra

Reaching the land of Pink city wasn’t an easy task, 13 hours of journey was uncalled for, the more agony grew as the bus got delayed by two but braving those mayhem finally, I reached the Royal Inn which was in a way very disloyal to my present dog panting condition, nonetheless by the gracious order of the High King aka Secretary General Rakshit Goyal, The IP Head was allowed to reach the spot by 10:30 am. With my belly full of delicious food, I went on for the Conference in a much better condition. Reaching Taxila Management Campus situated in Mansarovar, we were greeted by the graceful appearance of our Chair Ameya Naik who made sure that he was introduced well, Director Dikshant who seemed reticent at first seemed to have turned into a shutter buck maniac requesting IP photographer to click his best photograph as he wished to put this picture on matrimony site (well good luck with that Sir ;) ). The committee started with a low pace as most of the delegates themselves had no idea what the agenda was; the Rapporteur was most of the time smug to see the low turn-out of the Delegates (her job became more easy, no tension) hence the Chair started with the tedious work of explaining what the agenda was and further more he elaborated on the Point of Parliamentary Procedure. As rightly put up by the Chair the council seemed more like a Class room as most of the delegates were busy getting their photographs clicked or either, to our amusement, the delegate of Russia had done two Mun’s but had no idea what exactly which council he was in earlier. Alas! I hope he knows which committee the present one really is. The IP head wishes that there would be more delegates who would rather speak up than being ‘’Cool headed People’s Society’’ and take more of an active role in the Discussion.

The MUNdane Cocktail

It’s BetaMUN’s Day 1 in progress, and as much as it started off with the anxious, yet exuberant newbie’s, it’s more

than evident that, being a rookie, here in MUN International is hardly an option in contemporary terms. A chair

highly proficient in terms of the UN Charter is a fact grilling and at the same time enforcing enough for a

debutante who soon plans for a bluff to go unnoticed in support to his Point of Motion. However, owing to the

much head slamming on the tables and exasperated sighs, the experienced bunch of representatives have begun

getting bored of the ‘extended edition’ of guidelines by the Hon’ble Chair. Clearly if the chair was ‘proficient’, the

council is not far behind. Not unlike the Chair himself, the delegate of France, unperturbed by the indistinct giggles

over his accent and the ‘Bieber-like hairdo’, seemed unfalteringly committed to whatever Motion raised.

Moving on, I’d like to throw light on a few general doubts, and when I say general, I mean ‘vivacious’ doubts on

France’s stance that Pedophiles MUST register themselves with the resident govt. and take permission to step

abroad. The question stands, that, why in the world, would a pedophile register him as one, with the govt. ? It isn’t

really a national acclaim now, is it ? Well, that comment unexpectedly went un-yielded and unchallenged,

however ‘critiqued’ it COULD be.

Now, as noticed by the International Press as well as the delegates themselves, was the fact that some delegates,

in the flux of the debate tend to iterate the problems and conditions prevalent in their respective countries, in

their debate. Now, this begs the question that does ‘debating’ simply include rebutting to other countries,

supporting them, or does it also implore upon the delegates to ELABORATE the conditions in their countries,

present viable go-abouts, rather than just stating them ?

AIESEC’s debut MUN might not just be called a hit yet, owing to the poor turnout and other logistical reasons, but

the fortitude of a few delegates blended in with the adept Chair, Vice-Chair, the pretty much latent Rapporteur

though, along with the part-time ‘middle man’ for this MUN, the Sec Gen, proved to be an excellent concoction of

commitment by the delegates to the task at hand with the utmost diligence and graceful debating.

SLAVERY ON ITS EDGE AIESEC DAY 1 SESSION 1, AGENDA: HUMAN SLAVERY AND OTHER CONTEMPORARY ISSUES The formal session started at 11, after the delegates representing different countries were settled respectively. The Chair-person, Vice Chair and the Rapporteur consisted of the EB. We call them the omniscient, omnipotent rulers attempting to discuss some grave issues on the prevailing agenda of slavery. After all the din and uproar, the secretary general declared the council as open (hoping it to be a fruitful one!) During the roll call, a lot of chaos and confusion was seen, apart from Greece, Argentina and Ukraine, even the representative of India was found missing. All delegates were found to have an abundance of expressions but the delegate of Russia was in a complete state of pandemonium. The Chair commenced with all the guidelines and the points regarding the debate, emphasizing on “sticking to the main agenda”, being humorous at the same time. The delegates were allowed to yield questions and were not put under any pressure to answer all the questions. Points of Privilege regarding the temperature and other non-material issues were strictly not entertained. The EB expected substantial degree of formality with the usage of slangs being “clearly out of order”, no interruption at all. Some delegates like that of Argentina, Pakistan and Australia were filled with their own gossips, least bothered of the grave issues being discussed. Delegate of New Zealand motioned to open the speakers list. Switzerland commenced with the agenda being that slavery is considered as “exercising of power”, but more importantly, is a crime. With this the contradictions started in favor and in against. The committee moved from the main agenda onto the sub agendas like human trafficking and child labor. On part of discussion, repetition was observed on the fact that slavery is the consequence of poverty and illiteracy, even corruption. Lot many motions were placed in front of the council and many got rejected. Child labor was motioned by the Switzerland, which lead to the awareness about various disgraceful facts related to it. The Council came up to the conclusion that all countries are trapped in slavery, and it is so because of these root causes like child labor, human trafficking. The EB kept repeating to delegates to discuss new points, “avoid rephrasing”! The session went off with the same noise and uproar.

A new horizon towards slavery AIESEC Jaipur conducted an international debating conference to make the youth around the globe aware about some of the burning issues which need attention of the masses. Also, to see these problems and their respective solutions through the lens of the youth. ‘BETA MODEL UNITED NATION’S’ conference’s sole purpose was to engage youngsters in the discussions about the challenging issues the contemporary world is facing. The conference emphasized on discussing the agenda of contemporary forms of slavery and to draft a solution for the same. The council consisted of a Chairperson, Vice Chair and Rapporteur to guide the discussion to the right track. Slavery in all forms is a serious violation of a basic human right “the right of freedom”. Practices of slavery tend to be a persistently grave issue even today. The secretory general declared the session open followed by the roll call. India, France and Pakistan were missing from scene during the roll call. Delegates were introduced with a detailed set of instructions by the Chairperson. Delegates were warned about the prohibition of the use of mobile phones and laptops in the conference room as it disrupts attention. Despite which some of the delegates were found using social networking sites during the session. As the session took a steady pace, most of all transformed from casual youngsters to professional diplomats. The session was a gathering of young diplomats and everyone was expected to maintain a substantial degree of formality. Everyone was expected to keep certain points of order under strict consideration, like controversial and inappropriate facts to be avoided. Delegates were expected not to state facts out of context, something irrelevant or offending to the dignity of any nation or delegate. The session was held to discuss a pre decided agenda and everyone was expected to stick to the agenda instead of drifting to others. The Chairperson requested the delegates not to raise lame or rather inapt questions to avoid wastage of time. But as it is said “all is well that ends that ends well”. The session is anticipated to be highly fruitful for one and all.
