The College has cemented its reputation as being a caring school that knows its students and knows where they are in their learning. We continually push our students to aspire for success and to strive to improve. On occasions, it is important to remind students and families that this success is due to a culture of expected values and behaviours. We explicitly teacher and reward the values. Our students learn behaviours through our culture and the expectation is that they live these values and behaviours. Our community understands the opportunity education provides and will continue to push our students to aspire for greater things. NAPLAN Congratulations to all the Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students who participated in the NAPLAN tests over the last two weeks. The on-line testing went off without a hitch and all students coped very well with the process. I was very impressed with the grade 3 students who approached it as if they had done this before. It is not something worth stressing over. Well done! Again, I would like to remind the community that the College uses these independently collected results to show our teachers what we need to focus on to help improve learning outcomes. School Social Thursday week June 6 th is the whole college social. The format will be the same as previous years. The F-6 students will attend their social from 4.30pm-6.00pm in the multi-purpose room. The Year 7-12 social will follow from 7.00pm -10.00pm. The SRC is organising the social and other college staff who will be attending. The theme for the F-6 social will be ‘Crazy Colours’ and the theme for the Years 7-12 will be ‘StereoTypes. Please note: Buses have been organised to assist the year 7-12 students. One will run from Horsham and a second bus will run from Minyip to Rupanyup then to Murtoa. National Sorry Day This annual event in Australia on May 26 is to remember and commemorate the mistreatment of the country's Indigenous population. During the 20th century, Australian governments' policies resulted in a "Stolen Generation" which was described by John Torpey as "Aboriginal children separated, often forcibly, from their families in the interest of turning them into white Australians". Thank you to the college community that remembered this day last Sunday and to the respective organisations (AFL) across Australia that celebrated our Aboriginal heritage over the past few days and in the near future. 27th May 2019 No.13 Murtoa College is a child safe school.

Casual Clothes Day - IDAHOBIT Day

This Friday is the last Friday of the month and that means CASUAL clothes day for all students. As I have already mentioned we will be

celebrating IDAHOBIT Day (International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia). We will celebrate this day to

recognise the importance of diversity and inclusion. This is a student driven event and I look forward to the whole community enjoying

the celebrations. I ask that students dress or wear something to recognise the rainbow colours. The SRC will collect a gold coin

donation from all students who wear casual clothes with a rainbow flavour.

Year 9 Girls AFL Football

Good Luck to the year 9 girls who will represent the college at the AFL 9’s football competition in Horsham. The girls will be out on

Tuesday. Ms Caitlin McQueen will coach the team and Mrs Jan Dunlop will be assisting. I look forward to hearing about their day of

Last week was the SSV Volleyball finals in Melbourne. Murtoa College had a senior girls’ team competing on Friday. The team played a

Baker and the other staff and parents who have helped along the journey this year.

PS and Marnoo PS joined the Warracknabeal schools at Warracknabeal Primary School for the ‘The Barber of Seville’ performance. It

was a very educational program and the students and staff had a great day. Please see the article later in the newsletter.

Black Ranges Football and Netball

Congratulation to our years 5 and 6 students who travelled to Stawell on Wednesday May 22 to compete in Black Ranges Football and

Netball competition. Both teams competed well on the day and represented the college with commitment and enthusiasm. The

Dunmunkle football team came 3rd and the Murtoa College netball team also came 3rd. Thank you and well done to all staff, Mrs

Noonan, Mrs Shields and Mrs Jordan as well as the parent supporters for a great day. In addition, a special mention to Matt Downer

who coached the football team and to Emily Hotker for umpiring Netball games on the day.
