MUSCULOSKELETAL MR IMAGINGJanuary 26–28, 2014
This course will present a comprehensive state-of-the-art update on different aspects of musculoskeletal MR imaging. Pertinent anatomy and pathology will be reviewed for each joint. Evaluation of cartilage lesions, including the newest available sequences will be presented; and some lectures will include a discussion of optimized protocol with 1.5T and 3T MR units. A comprehensive discussion of bone and soft-tissue tumors will be given, including differential diagnoses for these problems. Special attention will be directed to bone marrow, muscle and tendon disorders, as well as nerve-entrapment.
An opportunity for completion of two Self-Assessment activities in “Elbow” and “Bone Tumors” will be offered. As of January 1, 2013, updated MOC Part 2 requirements: 75 CME credits every three years, at least 25 of which must be self-assessment activities (SA-CME, which includes SAMs). For further information: www.theabr.org.
At the completion of this course, the attendee should be able to:1. Relate MR image fi ndings of the shoulder and knee to the perspective of the
Orthopedic Surgeon; 2. Develop optimized protocols for imaging of the musculoskeletal system, including
protocols used to suppress metal hardware in patients with joint replacements;3. Understand the MRI anatomy of the elbow, shoulder, hip, knee and ankle;4. Identify abnormalities of the joints, muscles, bone marrow and cartilage on MRI
and their clinical signifi cance;5. Recognize common bone tumors with a pertinent differential diagnosis;6. Recommend imaging-guided diagnostic and therapeutic joint injections;7. Understand the indications, techniques and caveats of bone biopsies and
radiofrequency ablation.
3
ABDOMINAL & PELVIC IMAGING: CT/MR/USJanuary 29–31, 2014
This course will help the radiologist determine the indications for the different imaging modailties used for the abdomen and pelvis, as well as indications for secondary imaging studies. This will be achieved by providing an updated review of state-of-the-art imaging methods and evidence-based practice in CT, MRI and US as they pertain to the gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems, The ACR guidelines on managing incidental CT-scan fi ndings in the kidney, adrenal, liver, and pancreas will be discussed as appropriate.
An opportunity for completion of two Self-Assessment activities in “Benign and Malignant Disease of Uterus, Endometrium and Cervix” and “Renal Mass Imaging” will be offered. As of January 1, 2013, updated MOC Part 2 requirements: 75 CME credits every three years, at least 25 of which must be self-assessment activities (SA-CME, which includes SAMs). For further information: www.theabr.org.
At the completion of this course, the attendee should be able to:1. Apply the ACR recommendations for managing incidental CT-scan fi ndings in the
kidney, liver, adrenal gland and pancreas;2. Identify indications for the use of different imaging modalities (CT/MRI/US) for
various abdomino-pelvic organs and conditions;3. Apply practical approaches to diagnosing both benign and malignant diseases of
the abdomen and pelvis;4. Anticipate potential pitfalls in abdomino-pelvic imaging and interpretation;5. Gain an understanding of the utility of dual-energy CT in abdominal and pelvic
imaging.
