Few museums like Fernandes Blanco have such a connection between the building in a Neocolonial style and its heritage, composed by dozens of objects, paintings and furniture from Spanish America. One of its outstanding features is the best collection of viceregal crockery in South America. Strolling in the museum´s surrounding in the mid afternoon may deliver a pleasant surprise as acclaimed musicians often use the beautiful Spanish gardens of the museum.

A required visit for those who want to discover the majority of the Spanish art heritage in Ar-gentina. Just as the old owner, the Modernist author Enrique Larreta (1873-1961), dreamed, the collection contains paintings, alterpieces, carvings and furniture from the XIII century. They are emphasized among pieces like The Alterpiece in honor of Santa Ana (1503), and portraits of Sánches Coello. Designed with the recreation of the Spanish styles from the XVI and XVII century, a lush Spanish-Aarabic garden is around it.

yuyo Noé stops and gestures with the phone in
his hand. we are in the middle of the interview,
in his living room surrounded by work by fellow
artists, here a León Ferrari, there a Jorge de la
vega, an active display of the passion to make
art which has sustained Luis since 1959. A
combination of artistic production and aesthetic
thinking appears in the battle of contempo-
rary images. this year, exhibiting at the main
theatre of world art, the Biennial of venice, the
artist drew on his original programme which he
defined as “chaos as a strength”.
P: with such an overdose of images, how do
you create a painting?
Felipe Noé: i am a painter. And so i vindicate
the painting from the perspective that it is not
what is on the canvas but the art of the image.
Otherwise someone who takes a photograph
is also making a painting. the crux is the image
and not the painting.
Noé At the BieNNiAl iN VeNice“my decision was to take two pieces that represent my work today and a reading about how chaos and the internet have displaced the abstract with the figurative.”

BAsic NoéLuis Felipe Noe (1933) is one of the living legends of the porteño cultural landscape. master of a vi-brant style with dramatic colours, Noe also developed an aesthetic theory in Antiestetica (La Flor) and Noescritos (Adriana hidalgo). his key pieces are milestones in the history of Latin American art. he has been awarded the most important national and interna-tional prizes.
P: All images are paintings?
FN: the real challenge today for artists is to overcome the tide of
fragmented visual images and present a mundi image of the current
world. we know what Romanticism is but if i think of actual art - what
is it? installations? virtual collages? i believe we must capture the real
concept of a picture and its key: the internet.
P: what happens with the reception? Are we prepared for numerous
images?
FN: this is a problem with the generation of picasso. we live in the
forefront of abstract thought and the relationships between those
codes and the figurative, of a world dominated by asthetic advertising.
i see a public competent and accustomed to decodifying many visual
stimuli.
P: Are you able to talk of Latin American art in your work?
FN: Of course, because i was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Latin
América (laughs). And also because i feel i contribute to the defini-
tion of the Latin American identity, which is still being formed. But the
identify of my work is mine, is my own style, and not one notion of a
Latin America.
P: And what of Buenos Aires in your work?
FN: it is neither a geographical description or an elaboration of the
mythical porteños. what appears is the city in its historical time. in this
sense, my art was moulded by the urban phenomenon of peronism.
i’m still impressed by the symbolism of his character. i am not a per-
onista although i feel the person who influenced me most artistically
was Juan perón.

One of the main projects of the General direction of museums is the im-plementation and development of the instituto cultural para la infancia de Buenos Aires (cultural institute for childhood in Buenos Aires). motivated by active policy-making concerning the rights and interests of children, the plan is to form a polo cultural para la infancia (cultural Focus for childhood), following the success of La Nube, a non-profit organiza-tion in chacarita. Among its aims for 2010 are to effectively ensure the participation of children in the cultural life of the city; to promote children’s rights in social spheres; to develop programs for children in conjunc-tion with the General direction of Education and culture; to assess what is currently on offer in terms of culture for children; and to encourage investigation into the subject, among other things. the organization will have a coordinator, with proven experience in the area, and an honorary advisory council. A new reference area dedicated to childhood will have a library containing 70,000 already existing documents, including books, magazines, films, musical instruments, puppets and hundreds of valuable education resources. the playful and colourful mural by spanish artist Agatha Ruiz de la prada will grab attention in the street and encourage participation from the residents of the neighbourhood in social work, aimed at promoting the new generations’ spiritual growth, educational progress and development into mature citizens.

Next in Centenario Park, the Friends of Astronomy Association observatory, and the Luis Leloir Institute Foundation, the Museum of Natural Sciences raises itself impressively, heir of the first public Argentinean musem. It gets its name from Bernardino Rivadavia, who in 1823 thought of a Primigenia Collection of the animal kingdom. A unique building resulted in the country, decorated with beautiful figures of the animal kingdom in facade and interiors made by famous sculptors, a modernist design thought about the museologic function and of investigation.

in 2008, a copy of the classic German silent movie “metropolis”,

Buenos Aires in its entire version. this great discovery for the his-
tory of art came, not from a private collection, but from the public
museum of cinema pablo ducros hicken. directing the institution
which specialises in archiving film and photography, paula Felix-

doesn´t make sense to conserve our heritage without assuring its

essential for the protection of the beginnings of

has also brought forward digital copies and online

Like this, the musem shapes into an image modenr
center “which responds to the moment when the
resolution of cinema exploded. And so we propose
updating methods to protect without neglecting
new ways of seeing”, the director said.
Felix-didier is enthusiastic about the good reception
that took the box of three dvds with eight movies

colaboration with incaa (National institute of cinema
and Audiovisual Arts), and an association of friends

noticieros.

Around 1930 Quinquela martín (1890-1977) enjoyed the top honours of
American magnates and polite Europeans. But his heart still beat in the
old banks of the Riachuelo, between tenements and tangos, to a popular
melody which fired his colourful palate in permanent celebration of the
world of work. “Quinquela is the painter who invented what we know
today as Boca,” says the director of the museum of martin Quinquela,
maría sábato, alongside her curator-in-chief, víctor Fernández, “a land-
scape in the 1930s was the Return of Rocha, grey and decaying, and it
is clear that was martin´s work that revitalised the environment emotion-
ally and physically. Quninquela drew deeply on the symbols and values of
the humble Boca village, and found its strengths.

pueblo boquense, y supo potenciarlos.

And so, my donations are not much more than a return on investment. i have returned to my neighbourhood a good part of what it earned for me with my art. i feel i have merged both the outside and inside of myself.”

”Green is the urban image of the museum of modern Art which
refllects the neighbourhood and its history,” says martin Four-
cade, of atelman i fourcade i tapia. For this young architect from
cordoba, with much experience in designing public buildings for
visual arts, it was fundamental to build on the orginal version of
Emilio Ambasz, “to stretch the skin of the old factory over the
greens of the house of Orange trees, which have defined the
landscape of san telmo since the beginning of the 20th century”.
New equipment has been included, as well as workshop spaces,
seminar rooms, an auditorium, tea room and shop. Buenos Aires
will enjoy an updated and vital museum, with double the surface
area, up and running from october 2010.

“The transformation of the Tabacalera requires a new definition of the facade which supports the rhythm of the huge pillars: the space between the new facade and the old wing wall allows the installation of trees to create a green screen. In this manner it will represent a succession similar to the traditional floral balconies of san Telmo”.

the Night of the museums is now celebrated in 130 cities around the world, since the first event was held in Berlin in 1977. Only in Buenos Aires, you can enjoy the passion for art among half a million people, moving from place to place through the porteño´s neighbourhoods. At the last event, 150 museums and art spaces, public spaces and parks showing cinema and videos, showcased the ability of the city to discover culture in every corner. theatre, dance, cinema, performances, video, multimedia, concerts, tango, rock are only some of the many methods used to turn a saturday night in November into an urban party.

it was 1989. the company Ballet hispania de Graciela Ríos sáiz was re-
hearsing in the magnificent Andalucian garden of the museum of Fernán-
dez Blanco (suipacha 1422). Night fell and a power cut left the dancers
in the dark. suddenly a pale figure passed between the flower beds and,
in a blink of an eye, reappeared on the other side, only to vanish. some
of the dancers were sure they had seen a woman with an enigmatic
expression. Ríos sáiz decided to cancel the rehearsal and rapidly left the
place where they had met the woman in white.
AN EtERNAL vOicE
in 2002, builders were working late to finish some work at the house of
carlos Gardel. they were working to restore old metalwork, floor and wall
tiling. sometimes, night fell over them and suddenly something happened
and left them speechless. they just like others agreed that they have
seen him singing near to the old Abasto. And only they had been able to
prove that he sang even better.
