Sub-HeadingsThe sub-headings also tie in with the main font of the mast head on the contents page , and on the front cover. Also familiarising the customer again maintaining continuity of the brand style.

Pull QuoteThe irony used in the pull quote would appeal to the target audience. The audience will know that Jacoby is not a Justin Beiber fan. The ironic pull quote is also a joke shared between the audience and the main feature. This intrigues the reader, making them want to read the article further on in the magazine to find out the answer to the question being asked.

Main Photograph

The facial expression shows a lack of seriousness which gives the

impression that the article may be an easy read. The picture

represents the artist as being ironic, it also reinforces his star

persona This intrigues the reader, again making them want to

read .the article. The readers know the artist to be a comical

character and this is further reinforced by the pull quote.

Design TechniquesThe white background behind the texts ties in with the theme earlier used on the mast head and with pull quotes on the front cover. It draws the attention of the reader to the start of the article intriguing them.

TextThe asterix used at the end of the stand first entices the reader, leaving them on a “cliff hanger” making them want to read on in the article.

PhotographThe picture used in this double page spread shows fans the personalities of their favourite band members, the craziness of the facial expression makes the article overall more inviting to the customer. The fun and humorous representation of the band is furthermore shown in both the photograph, and the copy of the article.

Font StylesThe bold white writing of the pull quote, stands out against the darkness of the grass on the background picture.

Pull Quote

Using a Band member’s opinion for a pull quote shows emotion making the fans familiarise themselves with their own thoughts and feelings about the band and the irony of their personalities. This is a humorous representation of the band.

Page 4: Music magazine annotations presentation.

PhotographThe main bands featured on the front cover of Big Cheese account for a very wide range of music tastes, which shows that the magazine is for a more wide range of audience than the heavier music scene compared with Rock Sound magazine. Also, the colour scheme is again maintained through the pink outline on the picture of Oli Sykes.

Design TechniquesThe offer for the posters is, again, in a flash box to draw attention to the offer and persuade the customers to buy the magazine. Also it is consistent with the colour scheme. Also the flash is in an eroded style possibly reflecting the style of the magazine. This may also represent age group.

Colour schemeThe Pink, Green and White colour scheme is consistent, drawing out the picture and grabbing the attention of a reader/customer.

Mast headThe font is consistent with previous issues of the magazine. The consistency builds brand awareness/image. This means that the audience will recognize the mast head even though it is partially obscured.

Even though the font is more unclear and harder to read than the rest of the text on the front cover, the readers will already be familiar with the font style due to brand awareness

Page 5: Music magazine annotations presentation.

FontThe red font stands out against the plain white background which seems simple but gains affect in the way of grabbing the readers attention.

Font Colour SchemesThe colour of the font is a rapid change from the one used on the front cover. This is the opposite of familiarising the customer/reader with the colour scheme. Again, maybe fitting in with the fact that this magazine is for a more wide range of customers unlike Rock Sound.

Main Photograph

The facial expressions on the photographs on this contents page

show seriousness, letting the readers know that this may be more of

an informative music magazine to read as appose to being comedic

and easier to understand. This shows that the magazine may be

more appropriate for an older customer/reader.

TextThe asterix used at the end of the stand first entices the reader, leaving them on a “cliff hanger” making them want to read on in the article.

The Photograph

The bands seem to be standing in a similar formation to each other which possibly lets the readers who are unfamiliar with the bands know, that the bands have a similar style of music.

The Stand first

Using different colours for the font of the stand first pin points the most important area.In this case, the band names. The plain white writing stands out against the darkness of the picture in the background.

Design techniquesThe eroded/torn affect on the middle of the page for the main section of text, gives readers the impression of the sort of style of music before even reading the article. As it is more rough and untidy than MixMag for example.

Page 7: Music magazine annotations presentation.

Design Techniques

The overall design techniques for this magazine seem to appeal to a more mature audience. The titles are in line, the fonts are more clear and the whole magazine just looks more professional.

Colour Scheme

The re-occurring black and white scheme again shows sophistication, whereas the addition of the bright magenta it draws the readers eye towards the most important areas of the front cover.

Free gift

The free gift of a CD also suggests a more mature audience as apposed to a poster in a different magazine would suggest a more youthful audience as its unlikely that people 18+ would be putting posters and such around their bedroom or house.

Mast headThe bright pink title really stands out against the light blue of the sky in the background, it is easy to read regardless of the fact that it is partially behind the main photograph. Also the font is consistent with previous issues of the magazine. The consistency guilds brand awareness/image. This means that the audience will recognize the mast head even though it is

partially obscured.

The Photograph

The main photograph on this front cover shows the band “The Swedish House Mafia” in casual dress, shoeless, with one of them holding a glass of wine. This portrays a very laid back approach to an interview suggesting that it will be more relaxed and informal than would be expected of the magazine itself.

FontThe white font really stands out against the background of the main picture featured in this contents page. Also continuing the mast head featured on the front cover which maintains the style of the magazine and familiarises the customer. This helps build brand recognition.

Font Colour SchemesThe white font colour scheme has been continued from the front cover, again creating brand recognition and maintaining house style.

Sub-HeadingsThe sub-headings also tie in with the main font colour on the front cover. Also familiarising the customer again maintaining continuity of the brand style.

Main Photograph

The main colour in the photograph is dark and doesn’t draw a lot of

attention. Also the caption to go with the main photograph isn’t very

clear. There is a definite hierarchy on the contents page due to the

colour scheme and layout of the photographs. For example the

article on page 110 is the most important to the readers therefore it

is the largest image in the page.

Page 9: Music magazine annotations presentation.

The Colour Scheme

The colour scheme from the front cover is consistent in this double page spread, again, creating brand recognition. Also the lighting in the main picture to the right, is consistent with the colour scheme of the font.

The Photographs

The article is a review of a week in Ibiza. Both photographs in this extract show an exciting atmosphere which gives the readers a brief insight of what the week was like before even reading the article. Also in this article there is an aspirational aspect, as all of the people included in the main photo are young, attractive and having a good time.

The Stand first

The stand first has been made up of areas of the text that the publishers thinks would attract the readers and make them want to read the article. Words like “exploding” entise the reader and make them again, want to read the article.

The General LayoutThe general layout of this article is very precise and neat. The text box edges are all straight and the pictures are also all in line with each other, or the text. This contrasts the general theme of the article as you wouldn’t expect a week in Ibiza to be so neat and tidy.
