BEYONCE

Neyo: Miss Independent

Introduces something that is rarely seen in music videos , this is the idea that the women is in a high status such as boss or manager

The female in this video is seen as equal as her and the male sit at equal ends of the table ; this breaks common conventions as the person whom sits at the end of the table is usually the male figure / breadwinner

Gender representations made clear dominant male

Shows the idea of males gaze , this is the idea that women are there for the visual pleasure of male audiences , in this shot we see a medium shot with the females legs on the table , this connotes to the viewers that she is trying to seduce the boss this is an prime example of mulveys idea of voyeurism

Video starts of with no music and short clip of neyo walking through an office in a suit where there are several females dressed in tight clothing which shows their body parts

This is the common representation of females music videos where they are dressed in minimal clothing and loads of make up in a role which where they don’t have much status

Whitish lighting suggest she is an angel this is a common of female representation as they are seen as “sweet or fragile”

Matches good wins theory that in music videos the visuals and the lyrics match this is seen as neyo sings “she got her own things” we see a clip of her conducting a meeting which shows that she has authority and owns her own business / company

Beyoncé: Yonce

Starts of with a close up of Beyoncé which signifies an intimate relationship with artist and the audience as the camera zooms out we see that the artist is wearing bright red lipstick , this connotes that the artist is trying to be seductive

Visuals have a link to lyrics “boy this is all for you , just walk my way”, whilst singing this line the dancers and the artist places her hand on their body parts as if they are luring the men to them

Females dressed in minimal clothing dancing around in the streets , this suggests the idea of prostitution or strippers

The shot shows the idea that the artist is trying to seduce the male viewers as she wants to be there every desire

This video is a prime example of the male gaze as there female is there for the visual pleasure of the male audiences as the camera focus shows the females body part as if it was a male looking at them

Mis en sceneI have noticed that all the dancers have oily skin and red lipstick on , this is strong reference to sex .This objectifies women to just being sex objects
