Music Video TreatmentWEEZER - MEMORIES
Story
For our video’s narrative we would want to communicate feelings of community through music. We would want our story to focus around a record shop, preferably a vintage one in tough times financially. We would want to start the video with officials placing an eviction notice on the door of the shop. After they leave we would want a group of young people, dressed with their own individual styles, including members of the band, to approach the shop, only to see the eviction notice.
After the youths notice that the record shop is under eviction, their upset and distress would be shown in a way that reflects the possible loss of individuality through their music. The band would then be shown playing the song, only to cut back to the youths emptying their pockets and wallets for any money that could be put towards the shop. They would then set up a makeshift stage outside the shop and a handful of them would play the song that is already playing. As they play more and more people become interested and stop to watch the performance and donate money. As the song draws to a close, they would count and collect all the money and set the eviction notice on fire.
Idea Development We are keeping the idea of music bringing
people together and have developed the concept of a record shop bringing together these people due to their love of music in general terms of not wanting the record shop to be closed down. The concept fits into the song because it is very anti- establishment and talks about wanting things not to change and be how they used to be.!
Costume
We would want individuality to be portrayed heavily throughout the video, and one way we could portray this would be through the costumes. We would want every character dressed differently, in keeping with a different style or fashion.
Visuals So, as for visual part of our video, I think that
light should be one of the most important parts in it. During performance I suggest so light up the background like on the two images above and use close-ups and panning shots during it. It will make video more dynamic and interesting to watch. Also I want to include as much tracking shots as possible because as for me they just look great.
Camera We will try to combine use of steady shots
and hand held ones to make the video look more alive. New cameras, which we probably will be able to use are quite light so it won't be impossible.
Also, I think that it's crucial to create a unique look to the video. Using colour correction I am planning to give it kind of 80's look to it. Colours should be more blue and yellow plus we can probably add artificial noise to the video.
Hopefully, we will be able to use brand new Black magic URSA's mini 4k cameras because they got a very high dynamic range of 12 stops will help us during the post production process.
LocationFor the location of the music video, we’d ultimately like to be able to use a real record shop for the shooting as this would make the video seem so much more authentic rather than having to replicate one in the studio which will be so hard to do due to the character and age of some record shops.
We’d like for the shop to be either in s suburb of a town or actually in the high street as this would make it easier o believe that a crowd of people would turn up.
We’d like for the store to look a bit run down, so that it is believable that it is closing down.
