LIBRARY

DoD Summer Reading Program June 18 & 25School will be out for the summer which means there will be plenty of time to “paws” to read. We’ve lined up a menagerie of fun story times, activities and crafts that reflect our theme. The program is simple: you read books and earn prizes! Wednesday programs are for children grades K-6. There will be separate independent reading programs for both preschoolers and teens. Sniff out the details at the Library and keep your reading skills sharp this summer. Children 5th grade and below must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required and begins June 13.

New! Toddler Story TimeMay 1, 15 & 29, 10:30 a.m.It’s never too early to introduce your child to the wonders of books and reading. Stories, music and plenty of rhymes and movement adapted for toddlers. For children under 3 years of age with an adult.

Preschool Story TimeMay 8 & 22, 10:30 a.m.Join us for stories, songs and crafts. Establish the reading habit for a lifetime of discovery and enjoyment of books. For children ages 3 and up with an adult.

Military Spouse Appreciation DayMay 9, Noon-5 p.m.Show your support for military spouses and all the important contributions they make to the well being of service members and to our community. Stop by the Library to view our display that addresses issues of particular interest to military spouses and sample some tasty refreshments. Thanks to our generous sponsors, active duty and reserve spouses of all branches of service are eligible to enter a drawing to win prizes, including a spa treatment, a gift certificate at a local restaurant or coffee house. Spouses who cannot be present on Friday may stop by the Library any time during the week beginning May 7 to enter the drawing.

Puppet Show “Anansi and the Treasure Map” May 22, 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.Join us at the Library for an original puppet show based on a story by local storyteller Ernie Butler. Find out what happens in the jungle when Anansi the Spider gets his “hands” on a closely guarded treasure map. Fun for all ages. Children 5th grade and below must be accompanied by an adult.

StoryWalk ® “Mole Music”May 31, 2-4 p.m.Don’t miss this opportunity to combine physical activity with literacy. The StoryWalk® is meant for people of all ages to get walking while reading a children’s picture book. Here’s how it works: pages of a book are laminated and then attached to signposts laid out on a path. Families and children of all ages follow the path and progressively read the story. The StoryWalk® kick-off will be held on Saturday, May 31. Celebrate the completion of the course with “mole dirt” cake, lemonade and live music. If you miss the kick-off event on Saturday, the Story Walk® course will continue to be available for community members to explore on their own during the month of June. StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.

May is Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month

Join us at the Library in honoring the generations of Asian and Pacific Islanders who have enriched our history throughout the centuries. Our display

features books, films and audio materials of interest on cooking, Asian culture, religion, historical personalities and more. If you’re

traveling to Asia or the Pacific region sometime soon or just collecting ideas, check out our latest

travel books to help make your journey more educational and simple to plan.
