Gliwice was founded in the 13th century. It is an important centre of industry. You can find institutions of higher education , culture and science , here.

There are many worth seeing spots, such as: Town Hall Square with Gothic Town Hall and The Fountain with Three Fauns, Gliwice Radio Station, The Municipal Palm House, The Caro Villa, The Piasts’ Castle, The Main Post Office and St. Peter and Paul’s Cathedral.

TOWN HALL SQUARE WITH GOTHIC TOWN HALL AND THE FOUNTAIN WITH THREE FAUNS.

The Town Square is the favourite meeting place for the inhabitants and the tourists alike. Numerous cafes and galleries create pleasant atmosphere. This is also the place of numerous artistic undertakings.

GLIWICE RADIO STATION

The antenna tower of the Gliwice Radio Station is presently the highest wooden construction of this sort in the world. It is made of larch wood and measures 111 metres. It was erected from 1 August 1934 and went in service on 24 December 1935. On 31 August 1939, the German SS staged a 'Polish' attack on Gleiwitz radio station, which was later used as justification for the Invasion of Poland.

THE MUNICIPAL PALM HOUSE

Erected in the XIX century, the Palm House presently counts over 6000 specimen of flora and fauna. It is the third in size facility of that type in Poland. You can admire citruses, spices and the exotic palms and cactuses from Australia, Africa and both Americas here.

THE CARO VILLA

The building dates back to XIX century and its owner was the factory owner Oscar Caro.

Presently you can see residential interiors of the Upper Silesian manufacturers and the temporary exhibitions.

THE PIASTS’ CASTLE

The castle dates back to the mid-14th century. It consists of a tower from 1322, which was originally part of the city walls. It was an armory, a jail, a magazine and since 1945 a museum of Gliwice.

THE MAIN POST OFFICE

The building was erected in the years 1903-1906 and shows the features of the so called ‘Beautiful Gothic’.

ST.PETER AND PAUL’S CATHEDRAL

The church was built in the years 1886-1900. It is the place for lots of recitals and concerts. In 1992 the church became a cathedral.
