• Kemaman is a district in Terengganu, Malaysia where it was bordered by Dungun district to the north and the state of Pahang to the south.

• It covering total area of 253,559.9 hectare and the third largest district in Terengganu where it have divided into 11 parishes.

• On 2000, the population is estimated to be 137,070 persons and 15.6% are permanent residents of Terengganu.

• The population have jumped to 158,660 persons on 2005.

• The population censes on 2010, it show that the population are increase to 167,824 persons.

• But on 2012, the population are increase to 193,514 persons.

AIR QUALITYAIR QUALITY

• As we know, Kemaman is the industrial area. So, the air quality of this area are not very good. Usually the air quality index (AQI) are in the range of 51-100 which is moderate level.

• The health implication for this level is air quality is acceptable. However, for some pollutants there may be moderate health concern for a very small number of people who are unusually sensitive to air pollution.

• But in the monsoon season, the AQI are in the range of 0-50 which is good level. The air quality in this level are considered satisfactory and air pollution poses little or no risk.

• It is because, the rain and wind will move away the dirty dust particles that float in the air.

• Biodiversity is the degree of variation of life forms within a given species, ecosystem, biome, or an entire planet. Biodiversity is a measure of the health of ecosystems. It is in part a function of climate.

• Kemaman is located at Terengganu and it was located along the beach. Other than that, in Kemaman there are lot of lake and river that still not contaminated with the human works.

• Kemaman's beaches used to be nesting grounds for endangered green turtles and painted terrapins. However, due to the local's delight for turtle eggs, these sea creatures have been declared extinct in the area since year 2004.

• Among serious efforts to get turtles back to nest on the nearby beaches is the setting up of a turtle sanctuary in Ma'Daerah, called Ma’Daerah Turtle Sanctuary which provides an undisturbed beach for nesting turtles and protection for eggs.

• There were also a new developed zoo in Kemaman which offers many variety of wildlife for the tourists and locals. It was also the first zoo in east coast region of Peninsular Malaysia.

• Other than that, in Kemaman the tourists can see the firefly at Kampung Yak Yah. At night, that village will like have a festival because there are many people will come to see the fireflies.

• In this area there is also not committed to the rapid development of a natural look and not disrupt the ecosystem in the area.

Nowadays, consciously or not we have been facing the very critical problems where the capacity of landfills are more limited.

So, Majlis Pembandaran Kemaman (MPK) take the action to do the recycling campaign. We can see the recycling bins were placed in public area and also in residential area. Also not forgetting in school area.

• Otherwise, MPK also provide a drawing contest and design recycling bins, a collaborative programs and also giving the recycling banners and pamphlets to all schools in Kemaman’s area.

TRANSPORTTRANSPORT

This is the public bus terminal in Kemaman. Sometimes there is no bus at this terminal. The time waiting is quit long and the trip will discover for along the way up to Kuala Terengganu and Kuantan. One of the company bus already bankrupt because of the public transport is not the priority.

• Kerteh Airport is an airport in Kerteh, a town in Kemaman, Terengganu. The airport is owned and operated by Petroliam Nasional Berhad or PETRONAS via its East Coast Regional Office (ECRO), and was built to serve the purpose of airlifting its employees and ExxonMobil employees to their various oil platforms located 100–200 km offshore South China Sea. The airport although small, has a single 3000 metre-long runway which can accommodate a Boeing 737-400 aircraft.

The fixed-wing service has ceased operation and now replaced with regular Firefly scheduled flights using ATR 72-500 short-haul aircraft.

• In Kemaman, there have 52 of primary school that divided by 11 of urban area and 41 of rural area.

• From 11 of urban area, there have 1 of SJK(C) and from 41 of rural area have 3 of SJK(C).

• Other than that, there have 20 of secondary school. 7 of that are located in urban area and 13 are located in rural area. From this total, there have 2 of integration schools and 1 of technical school.

• TATi university college (TATiUC) was formerly known as Terengganu Advanced Technical Institute (TATi), is a higher learning institution which was established by Terengganu State Government on 11th June 1993 with a mission to produce highly-skilled and competent technocrats in the latest engineering fields in the industry.

Hospital Kemaman is known as the First Responder Hospital since RMK9 because its position is in the high risks disaster area.

This hospital provide services to residents in the district of Kemaman, Dungun and North of Pahang. Other than that, it also became a reference hospital for 9 health clinic and more than 20 private clinics in this district including private clinic of Rantau Petronas and PERWAJA.

Klinik 1 Malaysia is a project which was launched by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. This clinic is only charged the fee by RM1 and open 7 days a week from 10 am until 10 pm.

In Kemaman, this clinic was located at Binjai.

Kemaman also have a few of registered pharmacy such as Farmasi Cosway, Farmasi Harmoni, Farmasi Syaza Sdn Bhd, Abby Farmasi and so on.

The recreational forest of Rasau Kerteh is located in the Forest of Rasau Kerteh,Kemaman. This forest are types of Lowland Route Forest which are rich with trees of species Meranti and Keruing.

Here the visitors can wander through and see wildlife trails available. Various facility is provided for the use of visitors, such as rest huts and trails. Some of the facilities provided such as chalets, campsites, suspension bridges, information booths and walkways.

The Recreational Forest of Air Menderu is also located in Rasau Kerteh Forest with Forest Route Lowland type. This forest area there are a variety of flora and fauna can be seen through the trails here. Various facilities are available to guests as rest huts, public restrooms, sidewalks, water and campsites.

Various activities can be done here bathing, picnicking, camping and trekking. Here the visitors can wander through and see wildlife trails available.

distribution of weather patterns over periods ranging from decades to millions of years.

• Kemaman features a tropical rainforest climate that borders on a tropical monsoon climate. Kemaman does not quite have a true dry season month, a requirement for it to be classified as having a tropical monsoon climate. However the city’s driest month, February, averages 60 mm of precipitation annually. The city does experience a relative “dry season” from May through June, while the heaviest precipitation is seen at the end of the year which sometimes reaches more than 1,000 mm (39 in) of rainfall for each month in November and December.

• Normally massive flood hit all round Terengganu state occurred during monsoon season with estimated 3-5 series of wave of floods from November till March. Terengganu is generally hot and humid throughout the year though the city does experience slightly cooler weather during its rainiest part of the year, from November through January.

• Kemaman are very famous with seafood meals. There are many stalls along the left and right side of the road selling the foods such as satar, otak-otak, pulut panggang and keropok lekor.

• There also have deep fried food such as deep fried fish, deep fried squid, deep fried prawn and others.

• Most of food here are base on fish which are fresh come from the fisherman at here.

Satar is the triangle shaped fish paste wrapped with banana leaves.

Otak-otak is the fish well-marinated in spices and wrapped in coconut leaves.

Pulut Panggang or locally known as Pulut Lepa is the dish consists of glutinous rice lightly flavoured with coconut milk and wrapped in banana leaves, then barbecued to perfection.

Some call them fish fritters, fish sausages or fish sticks but in Terengganu, they are called keropok lekor. Keropok lekor are actually made from processed fish mixed with salt and sagoo flour. This mixture is then hand rolled into sausage shaped around 6 to 10 inches long and immediately cooked. It is a great afternoon snack normally dipped in Terengganu’s equally famous chili sauce.

Lemang is a traditional Malay food cooked in a hollowed bamboo stick. Usually prepared for festivities such as the Muslim Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Hari Raya Aidiladha but in my hometown lemang can get everyday. Lemang is made of glutinous rice and coconut milk, with salt added for taste.

• The economy is primarily based on the petroleum, oil and steel industries such as PETRONAS, PERWAJA, KEMAMAN SUPPLY BASE (KSB) and so on.

• The discovery of oil in offshore Terengganu on 1980s has attracted immigration to Kemaman from rural areas as well as other parts of the country.

• The presence of petroleum and oil industry here also causing this district well developed as well.

• Other than that, the traditional industries like the fishing and salted fish manufacturing also considered as an economic resources for this district.

• In this district also have the area of FELDA which is give the economic base on oil palm plantation.

Perwaja Steel Sdn Bhd is Malaysia's largest steel producer. It was established in 1982. It has two major plants in Kemaman, Terengganu and Gurun, Kedah.

Perwaja are a leading manufacturer of primary steel products. This group manufactures and supplies direct reduced iron (DRI) and semi-finished long steel products to downstream producers both locally and to the Asia and Middle East region.

The traditional food industry such as shrimp paste, dried fish, and pickled was existed. Because of Kemaman located at Terengganu coast, fishery activity becomes one of the main activities for people in this area. Some of the people have skill to built fishing boats and from time to time fishing boats become bigger than usual to achieve ability to sail further into the middle of sea.

• Actually, most of people here are work in the field of engineering and oil & gas because there are many of operating factory here. As we know, in Kemaman there are many of integrated people whose come to this district to find a job.

• However, there are also other employment like teacher, businessman, contractor and others. But in some area the major employment of them are fisherman and farmer.

• For my opinion, the problem to find a job in Kemaman are not really worse because the chance to get the job here are quit open and easy.

• The eco footprint is a measure of human demand on the Earth's ecosystems. It represents the amount of biologically productive land and sea area necessary to supply the resources a human population consumes and to assimilate associated waste.

needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

• The concept of sustainable development has in the past most often been broken out into three constituent parts which are environmental sustainability, economic sustainability and sociopolitical sustainability.

• Kemaman is one of the thriving city but it still fulfill the following parts. So, hoping the next development project will improved to the sustainable concept.
