    FADE IN

    INT. BERNIES JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

    HALLWAY

The school bell rings between classes signifying the end of

Soon after the bell rings, the hallway is filled with kids

between the ages of eleven through fourteen years old.

Within the mix are some boys throwing a football back and

forth to each other, and theres also a few groups of girls

walking together gossiping with each other.

The last kid to leave one of the classrooms is BERNIE, a

cute, short, but very awkward eleven year old sixth-grader

with hair slicked to the side, wide eyes and coke-bottle

    glasses.

Hes struggling to carry several books to his locker. Once

he gets to his locker, he notices his longtime crush,

BEATRICE, standing a few lockers down.

Beatrice is a tall skinny girl whose beauty is hidden

behind her braces, bad hair, wide eyes and coke-bottle

glasses. By all traditional definitions, she is awkward as

    well.

Nervously, Bernie opens his locker and checks himself out

in the mirror hanging on the door inside.

He smiles in the mirror to check out his teeth and he

notices a piece of lettuce stuck in between one of them so

    he picks it out.

As hes concentrating on his teeth, a kid walks by him and

says something derogatory in his direction without losing

    stride.

    STUDENT #1

    Hey dork.

Next Bernie gently blows into the mirror and takes a deep

breath so he can check out his breath.

Another kid walks by him and says something.

    STUDENT #2

    Whats up dork?

Bernie is so used to this behavior that he doesnt even

realize people are saying anything to him.

    BERNIE

    (to himself)

    Teeth are sparkling, breath smells

    goodtime to make my move.

Bernie grabs a stack of books for his next class, closes

    his locker and approaches Beatrice.

Bernie tries his hardest to act suavely but it just comes

off geeky and he becomes increasingly nervous.

    BERNIE

Sooo Beatrice, how are you this

    fine day?

    BEATRICE

    Im good.

    BERNICE

    (nervously)

You know, ummmm, the Fall dance is,

ummmm, coming up this weekend and I

just was, ahhh, wondering if youd, ummmm, like to go with me?

    BEATRICE

You want me to go with you?

    BERNIE

Yeah, itd, ummm, be swell. My mom

could pick you up in her Volvo

station wagon, its quite the ride.

    BEATRICEBernie I cant go.

    BERNIE

Oh do you have pre-existing plans

    for that night?

    BEATRICE

Oh no, Ill be at the dance. I

wouldnt miss it. I just meant

that I cant go with you.

    BERNIE

    (sadly)

Ohhh, I guess I understand. Well

maybe you can save a dance for me?

I do a mean cha-cha; my mom taught

    it to me once.

    BEATRICE

Maybe I will, but I cant promise

    you one.

    BERNIE

Yeah I know, there will be a lot

of guys there and you cant dance

    with everyone. Hopefully Ill be

    one of the lucky ones.

    BEATRICE

I have to run off to class now.

Beatrice politely brushes him off because shes not really

in a rush to leave her locker.

    BERNIE

Right, I got you. So, Ill see youlater.

Bernie walks away dejected, his head slung down low.

As he walks down the hall, he gets tripped by the notorious

SCHOOL BULLY, a tough-looking fourteen year old kid.

Bernie falls face down on the floor, his books scatter

everywhere and his glasses fall off his face.

Everyone in the hall laughs at his misfortune.

    SCHOOL BULLY

Ohhh, Bernard falls down and go

boom. Whats the matter, you having

    problems walking?

Bernie struggles to find his glasses and get up.

    SCHOOL BULLY

    (menacingly)

Here buddy, let me help you.

The school bully picks up one of his notebooks, opens it

up, rips out a handful of pages that have already been

written on and throws them across the hallway.

After that, he has a big hearty laugh.

    SCHOOL BULLY

Come on boys, lets skip next

    period.

The school bully walks away with three of his friends, all

    tough-looking punks as well.

The school bell rings signifying the next period is

    starting.

As kids go back to walking down the hallway, some of them

kick Bernies notebooks and school books around.

Bernie finally finds his glasses and puts them on. Then he

gets to his knees and scrambles to collect his school books

    and notebooks.

Beatrice, who was watching all this go down by her locker,

    feels bad and approaches him.

She gets down on her knees and helps him collect his books.

    BEATRICE

    Are you OK, Bernie?

    BERNIE

    (frustrated)

    Dont worry. I got everything,

you dont have to worry about

    little old me.

    BEATRICE

    I want to help though.

    BERNIE

    (frustrated)

No, thats OK. What are you

going to do? Pick up my Algebra

book then just take it with you?

    BEATRICE

Bernie, you know Im not like

    that.

    BERNIE

    (looks directly at her)

    Youre all like that.

Bernie finally collects all his things then grabs the lone

book in Beatrices hands and walks off.

Beatrice is left in the middle of the hallway by herself.

    BEATRICE

    (to herself)

    Im sorry Bernie.

EXT. RESIDENTIAL STREET BY SCHOOL DAY

After school, Bernie is walking down the street looking

totally dejected. Hes sluggish and he constantly looks

down at the ground as he walks.

Up ahead of Bernie, a front yard is being watered with a

sprinkler which causes a puddle to form in the road.

As Bernie gets to the sidewalk in front of the house, a car

comes speeding by, runs through the puddle and splashes

    Bernie. He gets soaked.

Bernie stops for a moment to fix his hair and wipe the

water off his books then he continues on like nothing

    happened.

Once he gets to a cross street, he sees Beatrice walking

towards him from the other street.

He continues walking, pretending like he doesnt notice

    her.

He crosses the street before Beatrice is able to get to the

corner. She ends up crossing the street and walking about

ten feet behind Bernie on the sidewalk.

    She calls out to him.

    BEATRICE

    Bernie! Bernie!

Bernie ignores her and keeps walking.

Beatrice speeds up until she catches him and she taps him

    on the back.

    BEATRICE

    Bernie!

Bernie stops walking and turns around. Hes still

embarrassed from earlier in the day so hes looking at the

ground and not directly at her.

    BERNIE

    (softly)

    What?

    BEATRICE

    Whats wrong Bernie?

    BERNIE

What do you think? I get picked on

    all the time at school.

    BEATRICE

Ohhh those kids dont know any better.

Theyre not good people. You are

    though.

BERNIESo why wont you go to the Fall dance

    with me?

    BEATRICE

    (sighs)

    Ohhh Bernice. Its complicated.

    BERNICE

    How complicated could it be?

    BEATRICEYou wouldnt understand.

    BERNICE

    Why wouldnt I? Im smart.

    BEATRICE

I know you are, but its difficult

    to explain.

    BEATRICE (contd)

Its just thatits just that I

dont think itd be good for me

at school if I showed up with you.

No offense and its nothing personal.

    BERNIE

    (dejectedly)

    None taken.

    BEATRICE

I just dont want to be made fun of

more than I already am. Id like

to be considered popular, just like

    you would too.

Bernie continues walking followed closely by Beatrice.

    BERNIE

Who says I want to be popular? I

like me just the way I am.

    BEATRICE

I do too, but come on, doesnt every-

    one want to be popular?

    BERNIE

    I suppose most people do.

    BEATRICE

So you see what Im saying?

    BERNIE

So you get made fun of too?

    BEATRICE

All the time. Girls are brutal,

    probably more so than boys.

    BERNIEReally?

Bernie slows down so that he and Beatrice are walking side

    by side now.

    BEATRICE

Oh yeah, for sure. The worst is

    before and after gym class.

My Imaginary Friends Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese

    BERNIE

    (inquisitively)

    What do they say?

    BEATRICE

Ohhh, the usual. They call me four

eyes and make fun of my braces. I

dont know what they want me to do,

I need to see and I want straight

    teeth.

    BERNIE

    I know what you mean.

    BEATRICE

    Plus Im not really athletically

    gifted; they always target me

first at dodge ball and Im

    always picked last in class.

    BERNIE

Thats only because you dont have

    gym class with me.

Bernie and Beatrice stop in front of Beatrices house.

    BEATRICE

    Well, heres my house.

    BERNIE

Are you sure you dont want to go

to the dance with me? It sounds

like we have a lot in common.

    BEATRICE

Im sorry Bernie, youre a nice

    kid, but I just cant.

    BERNIE

    (dejectedly)OK.

    BEATRICE

    Get home safe.

Beatrice playfully skips across her front yard and into her

    house.

My Imaginary Friends Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese

Bernie continues walking down the street, his head is slung

low again and he just looks at the ground as he walks.

    INT. BERNIES HOUSE

    LIVING ROOM

Bernie walks into the house and places his backpack on the

    floor right by the door.

His 3 year old younger brother, ANDY, is sitting in the

living room entranced by whatever hes watching on TV and

    doesnt acknowledge him.

Bernie walks through the living room into the

    KITCHEN

Where his MOTHER is busy preparing dinner.

Shes got her back turned to him as shes reaching up into

a cabinet to grab a box, but nevertheless she hears him

    enter.

    BERNIES MOM

    Hey sugarplum, how was school

    today?

Bernie, still dejected, doesnt answer, or evenacknowledge, her and continues walking through the kitchen

    without hesitation.

    BERNIES BEDROOM

Bernie enters his bedroom and shuts the door behind him.

He sits down on the edge of his bed and looks down at the

floor. He starts sniffling and a couple of tears fall down

    his cheek.

He looks up at a bunch of stuffed animals sitting on a

    chair by his bed.

Looking directly at three stuffed animals in particular a

dog (Murray), a teddy bear (Theodore) and an African

elephant (Mr. Elephant) - he addresses them specifically.

    BERNIE

    (sniffling)

    Theodore, Murray, Mr. Elephant,

you guys are my only friends.

    (pauses)

Why do I always get picked on?

    (pauses)

Why am I so different from the

other kids? I dont mean to be,

and I dont want to be, I just am.

    (pauses)

I wish I wasnt picked on, you

    know what I mean?

    (pauses)

At least you guys are always there

for me and youd never hurt me.

Bernie lies down on his bed to try to fall asleep. He is

still a little bit teary-eyed but after a few moments his

eyelids start getting heavier and heavier.

Just as he is about to fall asleep there is a knock on the

door. His mom and dad enter the room before hearing a

    response from Bernie.

    BERNIES MOM

    Hi Bernie!

    BERNIES DADHows it going champ?

Bernies mom is hiding something behind her back.

    BERNIES MOM

Your dad and I talked and we thought

itd be a good idea to give you an

    early birthday present.

Bernie perks up and sits up on his bed.

    BERNIE

    Oh yeah! What is it?

    BERNIES MOM

We went to Toys R Us the other day

and asked them whats the hottest

new video game out for kids right

now. And you know what they said?

    The Chronicles of Prince Valor.

A huge smile covers Bernies face.

    BERNIE

    (excitedly)

    The Chronicles of Prince Valor?!?

    The Chronicles of Prince Valor!?!

    Awesome!

Bernie takes the game and hugs his mom and dad.

    BERNIE

    Thanks mom! Thanks dad!

    BERNIES DAD

    Ohhh, youre welcome son!

    BERNIE

Im going to play this right now.

Bernie stands up, runs over to his TV and turns it on. He

fumbles around with the video game packaging to try to open

    it up.

He finally manages to open up the video game after a little

bit and he pops it into his game console.

Once he does that, he grabs his controller and sits down on

the floor only a few feet away from the TV.

    BERNIES MOM

Well Bernie, I hope you enjoy the

    game.

Bernie is still beaming from ear to ear.

    BERNIE

    I will, I will!

Bernies dad walks over to Bernie and pats him on the head.

    BERNIES DAD

    Have fun son.

Bernies parents walk out of the room.

Bernie starts up the game and is immediately in awe of all

the graphics. His eyes grow even wider than they already

    are.

    BERNIE

    Whoooaaa.

    LATER ON AT NIGHT

Bernie is still playing the video game in the darkness of

his room. The only light is coming from the glow of the

    TV.

He is still practically entranced with playing the game.

    BERNIES MOM (O.S.)

    (yells)

    Bernie! Dinnertime!

Bernie is so engrossed in the game that he doesnt even

    hear his mom.

After a few seconds she shouts out to him again.

    BERNIES MOM (O.S.)

    (yells)

    Bernie! Dinner!

    BERNIE

Im busy! Can I eat my dinner up

    here tonight?

    BERNIES MOM (O.S.)

    I guess, if youd like.

    LATER ON

Bernie is still sitting in the same place playing his videogame. Besides him is a near empty dinner plate.

Without skipping a beat in his game, Bernie eats the

remaining few forkfuls of food from his plate and finishes

off his dinner. All the while his eyes barely move off the

    TV.

    LATER ON

Bernie is still immersed in his video game.

    BERNIES MOM (O.S.)

    (yells)

    Bernie, its time for bed!

    BERNIE

    Five more minutes mom!

    BERNIES MOM (O.S.)

    OK, but only five minutes.

    BERNIE

    Thanks mom.

    LATER ON

While Bernie is still playing his game, his mom knocks on

his door and walks into the room.

Noticing that the only light in the room is coming from the

TV, she immediately turns on a lamp.

    BERNIES MOM

    Bedtime Bernie.

    BERNIE(sadly)

    But mom.

    BERNIES MOM

No buts this time mister. You asked

for five minutes and I was nice

enough to give you ten. Its past

    eleven oclock.

    BERNIE

OK, OK, Ill stop for the night.

Even though Bernie said hell stop he continues playing,

trying to get in every last second of action.

Frustrated, Bernies mom stands right in front of the TV to

    block his view.

    BERNIES MOM

    Bernard.

    BERNIE

    Mom!

Bernie tries to shift so that he can look around his mom to

continue playing but it doesnt work out so well.

    BERNIES MOM

    Youve played enough today.

Bernie gives up and shuts off the game and TV.

    BERNIE

    (dejectedly)

    Fine.

Bernie stands up, marches over to his bed and gets in it.

    Bernies mom tucks him in.

    BERNIES MOM

    Good night son.

    BERNIE

    Good night mom.

    BERNIES MOM

    I love you.

    BERNIEI love you too mom.

Bernies mom kisses him on the forehead then collects his

dinner plate from the floor, turns off the light so that

its now pitch dark in the room and walks out.

    NEXT MORNING BERNIES BEDROOM

Bernie is sleeping peacefully in his bed when suddenly his

    mom yells out to him.

    BERNIES MOM (O.S.)

    (yells)

Bernie! Time to wake up for

    school.

Bernie wakes up, rubs his eyes, stretches in bed then gets

up and immediately walks over to his TV.

He turns on his TV, sits back down in the same place he was

sitting in the previous day and continues playing his video

    game.

    LATER ON

Bernie is still playing his game when his mother walks into

his room. Shes shocked to see him not ready for school

and playing his video game instead.

    BERNIES MOM

Bernard! You need to go to school

right now! Youre not even dressed?

    BERNIE

OK, OK, Im going. Give me two

    minutes.

    BERNIES MOM

Hurry up or youll miss your bus

and I cant drive you to school

    this morning.

Bernie shuts down his game, stands up and turns off his TV.

    BERNIE

    Im going, Im going.

    INT. BERNIES JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

    CLASSROOM

Bernie is sitting in the middle of a classroom filled with

    fellow sixth grade students.

The older, gray-haired female teacher at the front of the

room is teaching math in a relatively boring style.

All the while, Bernie is doodling in his notebook.

    MATH TEACHER

Class, today were going to learn

    about the exciting world of

    percentages.

The teacher turns to the chalkboard and starts writing on

backpack down right besides the front door.

Again, his brother, Andy, is sitting in the living room

entranced by whatever hes watching on TV and doesnt

    acknowledge him.

Bernie walks through the living room into the

    KITCHEN

Where his mom is busy preparing dinner.

On this day, Bernie actually answers her.

    BERNIE

    It was fine mom.

    BERNIES MOM

    Would you like a snack?

    BERNIE

No time, I have to continue playing

    The Chronicles of Prince Valor.

Without slowing down, Bernie walks right through the

    kitchen.

    BERNIES BEDROOM

Bernie enters his room and shuts the door behind him.

He turns his TV on, starts up the video game and sits down

on the floor in the same spot that hes been sitting in

when hes played the game before.

He immediately gets engrossed in playing the game again.

    LATER ON

With dinner plates stacked up next to him, Bernie continues

to play the game at night in darkness, with the only light

in the room again emanating from the TV.

    KITCHEN

Beatrices mom and dad are in the kitchen cleaning the

    dishes.

    BERNIES MOM

Hes been playing that video game

nonstop, all week. Should we be

    worried?

    BERNIES DAD

    (laughs)

No, not at all. This is what boys

do. We should be excited. I

havent seen him this happy in a

    long time.

    BERNIES MOM

Youre right. Its so good to see

him with a smile on his face.

    LATER ON

    BERNIES BEDROOM

Bernie is still sitting in front of his TV playing the

video game. He is nearing the end of game.

    VIDEO GAME

Bernie is on the final stage. Controlling the Prince

character, hes fighting a dragon, dodging the fire from

his breath and jumping around to avoid him until he finally

nails it with a sword that hes thrown.

The dragon falls off a bridge and the cage that he was

guarding behind him opens up and a princess is released

    from it.

The princess runs out of the cage and immediately hugs the

prince that so bravely got rid of the dragon and set her

    free.

    BERNIES BEDROOM

A wide smile covers Bernies face when he realizes hes

    beat the game.

    BERNIE

    (softly to himself)

    Yeah! Wow!

Then the realization sets in that since hes beat the game,

he has nothing else to do now. So he begins to doze off in

front of the TV, bobbing his head uncontrollably in the

    process.

    LATER ON

Bernie is lying down sleeping in front of his TV while its

    still on.

His parents quietly enter his room. His dad picks him up

and carries him over to his bed. Bernie mumbles in his

    sleep as hes being carried.

Once his dad lays him down, his mom tucks him in. Then she

grabs his stuffed animal, Theodore, from the nearby chair

    and gives it to Bernie.

    Bernie instinctively hugs Theodore.

    BERNIE

    (barely awake)

    Mom?

    BERNIES MOM

    (whispers)

    Shhhh. Good night my love.

As he holds Theodore tightly in his arms, Bernies eyelids

get heavy again and he falls back asleep while looking at

his other favorite stuffed animals Murray and Mr.Elephant on the chair close by.

Bernies mom walks out of the room as Bernies dad turns

off the TV, leaves the room as well and closes the door

The room turns pitch black and Bernie begins to have a

EXT. PRINCE VALORS CASTLE, MEDIEVAL TIMES DUSK

With the sun going down behind the castle, a series of

guards march up a bridge and through the front gate.

    INT. PRINCE VALORS CASTLE

    LARGE READING ROOM

PRINCE VALOR, an eleven year old who looks and sounds

exactly like Bernie but is dressed in regal attire, is

sitting in front of a fireplace reading a book.

Suddenly, theres the sound of barking in the distance.

The barking gets closer and closer until his faithful

servant, MURRAY, a small Jack Russell terrier, runs into

the room and up to Prince Valor.

    MURRAY

    Prince Valor! Prince Valor!

Prince Valor stands up to see what the commotion is about.

    PRINCE VALOR

    What is it buddy?

    MURRAY

    Its Princess Adorable.

    PRINCE VALOR

    What happened?

    MURRAY

I was outside, all the way down by

the apple orchid giving myself my

usual evening walk when I saw the

evil dragon from Gloomy Glen enter.

    PRINCE VALOR

Whats he doing in this part ofthe kingdom?

    MURRAY

I dont know. But it gets worse.

    Princess Adorable was in there

    picking apples.

    PRINCE VALOR

    (sadly)

    Ohhh no, Prince Adorable.

    MURRAY

The dragon took her and flew away.

    PRINCE VALOR

    (shocked)

    What?

    MURRAY

Shes gone. He picked her up in

his claws and flew away. I guess

    back to his dungeon.

    PRINCE VALOR

Oh no. This is terrible. Princess

Adorable is so sweet and innocent.

    MURRAY

We have to alert the king!

    PRINCE VALOR

We cant. Dont you remember that

he and my mom set sail for the Land

of Enchantment today to negotiate a

    trade agreement?

    MURRAY

OK, then its up to us.

    PRINCE VALOR

    What do you mean?

    MURRAY

The only way well get the princess

back and returned to her rightful

place at the Castle of Virtue is

    if we confront the dragon.

    PRINCE VALOR

Then Ill notify the guards and they

can assemble a team to squash the

    dragon.

Prince Valor tries to walk out of the room but is stopped

by Murray who bites down on his ankle.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Owww! That hurt Murray!

    MURRAY

    Prince Valor, according to legend

only a person with royal bloodlines

has the inner strength to confront

and battle the dragon of Gloomy

    Glen. Anyone else that confronts

him will met an almost certain

    demise.

    PRINCE VALOR

    (in awe)

    Whoa! Really?

    MURRAY

Yes. We need to do this, you and

    me.

    PRINCE VALOR

How about if I assemble a team of

    guards to go with us?

    MURRAY

Sir, you know the guards will never

let you go on a mission this

    dangerous. The king would have

their heads if he knew theyd allowyou to get into harms way.

    (pauses)

We need to do this, together.

Prince Valor starts pacing around the room and wringing his

    hands nervously.

    PRINCE VALOR

    (worriedly)

Ohhh, I dont know about this.

Murray follows behind him back and forth as he paces around

    the room.

    MURRAY

What dont you know about? Shes

You have to save her. Its your

    PRINCE VALOR

I suppose. But that dragon lives

on the other side of the kingdom,

in a dark, distant land. They

say the sun never shines there and

the water breathes fire. And I

    havent even talked about the

    dragon himself yet.

    (rubs his head in

    distress)

Ohhh boy, hes one scary fella.

    MURRAY

Thats true but you can do it

    Prince Valor.

    PRINCE VALOR

My dad doesnt even let me cross

the River of Purity and its only

down the road from the castle,

    just over the hill.

    MURRAY

    Prince Valor, Im your faithful

servant. Im old and wise, 28

in dog years. Ill protect you.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Still, its awfully dangerousout there.

    MURRAY

That may be so, but you can do

    this. I have an unbelievable

amount of faith in you. All you

have to do is muster up all that

courage that I know you have inside

you. Focus that courage on the

one mission at hand to defeat

the dragon and bring the youngprincess home unharmed. You can

do this. I believe in you, now

you just need to believe in

    yourself.

Prince Valor continues pacing around the room silently as

    he thinks.

After a few moments, he stops and looks down at Murray.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Murray barks in excitement.

    MURRAY

    Thats the spirit! Whats our

    plan?

The prince walks over to a large table towards the opposite

side of the room, away from the fireplace. He clears

everything off of the table, grabs a map from the corner of

the room and spreads it out on the table.

Murray jumps up on a chair to get a better view.

    PRINCE VALOR

OK, so this is a map of the entire

    kingdom.

    MURRAY

    Is it to scale?

    PRINCE VALOR

    No, no it is not.

The prince points to two places on the map, directly

    opposite each other.

    PRINCE VALOR

OK, we are hereand the dragon

    lives over here.

As he looks at the map on the table, the prince looks like

a General planning a military battle.

    MURRAY

Ill admit it. It looks far away.

With his finger, the prince traces a route from the castleto the dragons dungeon on the other side of the kingdom.

    PRINCE VALOR

I think this is the best route.

Itll take us by the town square,

through a forest, across the plains

and finally to the dark land of

    the dragon.

Murray studies the map intensely before rendering his

    MURRAY

    Yes, I concur.

    PRINCE VALOR

So now that we have our route,

ummm, how are we going to defeat

    the dragon?

    MURRAY

Well again, legend has it there

are two ways to defeat the dragon.

    One, ironically enough, is with

    fire.

    PRINCE VALOR

Wait, fire? But doesnt he breathe

    fire?

    MURRAY

Yes, thats why I said it was ironic.

Apparently he can breathe it, he

just doesnt like to feel it.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Whats the second way?

    MURRAY

The other way to defeat him is with

    the Sword of Alchemy.

    PRINCE VALOR

    (in awe)

The Sword of Alchemy? Whats that?

    MURRAY

Its a special sword, its said to

    have mystical powers.

Murray walks over to a bookcase and looks through the books

until he finds the one hes looking for.

He grabs the book, puts it on the table and opens it up.

    MURRAY

    Here, here it is. Look.

Prince Valor takes a look at the picture of the sword.

Its a rather small sword but its very majestic with

    jewels encrusted around the base.

    PRINCE VALOR

    (in awe)

    Its beautiful!

    (pauses)

    So where is the sword?

    MURRAY

    Thats a mystery.

    PRINCE VALOR

    How come?

    MURRAY

Up until recently, the sword was

guarded in the sacred CelestialTemple by three knights. But one

night it was stolen right from

    the temple.

    PRINCE VALOR

Where were the knights who were

    guarding the sword?

    MURRAY

They were there, the sword was

stolen right from under them.Whoever stole it was a very

    cunning individual.

    PRINCE VALOR

So how do we find the sword?

    LATER ON

    LARGE HALLWAY IN THE CASTLE

A door opens in the hallway and out walks Prince Valor on

his tippy toes, trying his hardest not to make a sound. He

has a knapsack over his shoulder.

Prince Valor walks slowly and quietly down the hallway.

Murray comes up from behind him, wagging his tail.

    PRINCE VALOR

    CASTLE GUARD #2

I dont know, lets check it out.

The three guards walk over to Murray to see what hes

One of the guards gets down on his knee and starts petting

    CASTLE GUARD #1

    CASTLE GUARD #1

Ahh boy? Do you see something?

    CASTLE GUARD #2

    Hey where did he go?

    CASTLE GUARD #1

Ahhh, who knows. You know Murray,

he probably ran back into the castle

That little dog is always hungry.

    EXT. OPEN FIELD NIGHT

Prince Valor and Murray are walking along a large open

field that is lit only by the moonlight.

As theyre walking, Murray hears something behind them in

the distance so he stops walking which makes the Prince

    stop too.

    MURRAY

    PRINCE VALOR

    MURRAY

I think so. Its coming from the

Murray and Prince Valor turn around and look.

    MURRAY

    PRINCE VALOR

    Yeah, I do.

    MURRAY

    Its getting closer.

Suddenly the sky is filled with literally thousands of bats

and theyre flying right towards Prince Valor and Murray.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Oh no!

Murray, who is still running, turns his head and notices

    that the prince has fallen.

He turns around and runs back to the prince. Once he gets

back to him, he jumps up a few times to scare the bats

    away.

This gives the prince enough time to stand up.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Thanks Murray!

Once hes up, him and Murray continue running towards the

    forest.

The bats have grown in numbers and are flying lower and

lower, closer to the prince and Murray.

    EXT. FOREST NIGHT

As they get to the forests edge, they both hit the groundand land on their stomachs.

    RPINCE VALOR

The bats fly right into the trees of the forest and

    disappear.

Im quite adept at roughing it.

The prince takes a couple steps into the dense forest and

    finds two sticks.

Then he steps back out to the edge of the forest, kneels

down and starts rubbing the two sticks together to create a

    fire.

After a few seconds, the sticks begin to smolder then a

They walk along a small path that is surrounded by brush

and trees. Prince Valor is leading the way with the

    lantern.

There are sets of spooky eyes showing up everywhere

intermittently within the darkness of the trees. After walking for a while, the prince finally gets the

    PRINCE VALOR

    I supposed youre right.

The two continue to walk along the path as the spooky eyes

    continue to follow them.

    LATER ON

Prince Valor and Murray continue walking when suddenly they

both fall down a hole in the middle of the path. It was

covered with leaves and branches which is why they didnt

The prince and Murray fall down a hole that seemingly goes

    then Murray lands on him.

soon Im going to have abs of

    steel. You watch.

    MURRAY

    I believe you.

The prince and Murray look around the dark cave. Valor

holds up the lantern and turns it in all directions to get

an idea of how big the cave is.

    PRINCE VALOR

So what do you think this is?

    MURRAY

I dont know, a cave of some sort.

How are we going to get out of

    here?

Prince Valor looks at his map.

    PRINCE VALOR

I dont know. This isnt on mymap.

    MURRAY

    I figured it wouldnt be.

As the prince moves the lantern around he sees an opening

    in the corner.

    PRINCE VALOR

I see a little opening over there.

    Lets check it out.

Murray heads towards the opening first, followed by Prince

    Valor.

They walk slowly down one corridor, then another one. The

corridors are lit by torches hanging on the wall.

    dont even think about it.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Im scared.

    MURRAY

Theres nothing to be scared about.

The two walk into another corridor which leads to a big

room. Standing in the corner of the room is a huge, scary-

    looking SPIDER.

    MURRAY

OK, I think its time to be scared

The spider is hissing at them as it walks back and forth on

the other side of the room.

    MURRAY

Lets make a break for it.

As the prince and Murray try to run towards an exit in the

room, the slow moving spider suddenly sprints to blocktheir escape.

The two are blocked into a corner by the spider. The huge

spider comes right up to Prince Valors face and hisses

After a few tense-filled seconds, Murray quickly grabs the

The fire temporarily spooks the spider which gives them

    enough time to escape.

The prince and Murray run through corridor after corridor

to get away, but theyre closely followed by the spider who

    is still hissing loudly.

The two take a quick turn into another corridor, as soon as

they turn they find that there is a web blocking the

    pathway.

The prince and Murray get down on the ground and crawl

underneath the web to get to the other side.

As soon as they make it under, the spider scurries around

the corner into the corridor and immediately gets stuck in

the web. Hes unable to free himself.

The two stand up and look at the spider helplessly stuck in

the web, they are a mere inches away from him.

The spider tries to reach out its legs to grab them but to

    no avail.

    PRINCE VALORWhew! That was close.

    MURRAY

    Look, a vine.

    MURRAY

    Do you think its sturdy?

Valor gives the vine a hard tug.

My Imaginary Friends Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese

    PRINCE VALOR

    It seems pretty sturdy.

    MURRAY

Ill go first to test it out.

    PRINCE VALOR

You just want to go first so that

you have something soft to land

    on in case we fall.

    MURRAY

    You got me.

Murray jumps up on the vine and climbs up it, hes followed

    closely by Prince Valor.

    EXT. FOREST NIGHT

They both climb all the way up the vine and out of the

    hole.

As soon as theyre up, they lay down on the ground, clearly

    exhausted.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Awww Murray, Im exhausted.

Theyre both breathing heavily, trying to catch theirbreath.

    MURRAY

I guess Im not in as good of shape

    as I thought.

Prince Valor stands up and tries to help Murray up.

    PRINCE VALOR

Come on buddy, lets go. We have

a lot of ground to cover.

    MURRAY

    OK, Im up, Im up.

The two continue walking along the path further into the

    forest.

    LATER ON

    41/108

My Imaginary Friends Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese

The prince and Murray come to a river that cuts right

through the middle of the forest.

    MURRAY

This looks like a good place to

set up camp for the night. A good

water supply, a little bit of an

open, flat area for us to build

    a fire.

    PRINCE VALOR

I agree. Lets get to work.

Valor drops his knapsack on the ground and starts emptying

    it out.

    LATER ON

The two are sitting around a campfire by the waters edge.

The spooky eyes continue to pop up intermittently in the

    darkness of the trees.

    PRINCE VALOR

What do you know about this dragon?

    MURRAY

Ive heard many stories about him.

    PRINCE VALOR(intrigued)

    Oh yeah? Like what?

    MURRAY

Prince Valor, you dont want to

    hear the stories.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Come on, yeah I do.

MURRAYWell, theres not much story to

tell. Just as youd think, the

dragon is evil, pure evil. Hes

been known to kidnap people from

    the villages surrounding the castle.

He usually attacks at sundown or

at night under cover of darkness.

My Imaginary Friends Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese

    PRINCE VALOR

    What usually happens to them?

    MURRAY

    I dont know.

    PRINCE VALOR

    You dont know?

    After a dramatic pause.

    MURRAY

    Theyre not heard from again.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Theyre not?

    MURRAY

    No, they disappear. They either

live the rest of their lives at

    the dragons dungeon or worse.

    PRINCE VALOR

    (naively)

What could be worse than living

    in the dungeon?

Murray thinks about explaining himself for a moment then he

    decides to let it go.

    MURRAY

Its late, lets get some sleep.

Valor and Murray sit quietly for a few seconds until Valor

    breaks the silence.

    PRINCE VALOR

How come no ones stopped the dragon

    yet?

    MURRAY

Come on prince, get some sleep.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Im not tired.

    (pauses)

So how come no ones managed to

    stop the dragon yet?

  • 8/14/2019 My Imaginary Friends Screenplay

    43/108

My Imaginary Friends Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese

    MURRAY

Well, a couple of reasons. The

first one, in all honesty, is that

    the dragon has usually kidnapped

    lowly peasantspeople that the

    king doesnt care about.

    PRINCE VALOR

    (interrupts)

Hey, thats my father youre talking

    about.

    MURRAY

I know, Im just telling you the

    truth.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Fine.

    MURRAY

This is the first time that the

dragon has ever captured a member

of the royal family. Hes getting

    bold.

    PRINCE VALOR

    And whats the second reason?

    MURRAYIts too dangerous. The dragon

lives all the way on the other side

of the kingdom in a fortress-like

    castle. Its a dark, foreboding

place. Also hes got a dungeon

below his castle that offers him

extra protection too. And he can

fly too, which allows him to come

just as quickly as he goes; and

the sky gives him an automatic

    escape route.

    PRINCE VALOR

If its too dangerous, why do you

    think we can do this?

    MURRAY

Because we have the element of

    surprise.

  • 8/14/2019 My Imaginary Friends Screenplay

    44/108

My Imaginary Friends Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese

    PRINCE VALOR

    OK.

    MURRAY

And were small. If the dragon

is ever going to be confronted,

he thinks its going to come from

the kings army. Hes not thinking

that hed have to battle a tiny,

eleven year old prince and his dog.

Thus he wont be prepared for us.

We can sneak into his castle and

maybe we can even set the princess

    free without him knowing.

    PRINCE VALOR

    I see.

    MURRAY

Trust me we can do this.

    PRINCE VALOR

    I have faith. I believe now, I

    know we can do this.

    MURRAY

    Good.

The prince and Murray sit quietly for a few more seconds, then Valor breaks the silence again.

    PRINCE VALOR

What do you think we can expect

    when we confront the dragon?

    MURRAY

I dont know, but I can tell you

that the troubles we just had with

that spider down there will pale

in comparison with the trouble wecan expect from the dragon.

    PRINCE VALOR

    (sarcastically)

    Oh great.

Prince Valor and Murray sit quietly on the ground until

    they fall asleep.

    EXT. FOREST - MORNING

With the two still sleeping and the fire dead, a snake

slithers out of the trees of the forest, down the path and

    over to their camp.

The snake slowly climbs up on Prince Valor, slithering all

    around him.

Murray wakes up and, in his grogginess, hes startled to

notice a snake crawling around the prince.

Murray kicks the prince to wake him up, he doesnt budge so

he kicks him again, this time even harder.

The prince finally wakes up and screams immediately when he

notices a snake slithering around him.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Oh no!

    MURRAY

    Prince Valor, dont move.

    PRINCE VALOR

Thats easy for you to say, you

dont have a python around your

    neck.

    MURRAY

Calm down, drama prince, its not

    a python.

    PRINCE VALOR

A snake is a snake to me. I order

you to do something about it!

    MURRAY

OK, OK, let me think for a moment.

Murray looks around the campsite for ideas but cant figure

    out a plan.

    MURRAY

    Hmmmm.

The snake starts slowly constricting around Prince Valor.

    PRINCE VALOR

    (impatiently)

    Hurry Murray!

    MURRAY

    Im thinking! Im thinking!

Murray sees a big branch on the ground by the path so he

runs over to it, grabs it in his mouth and runs back to

    Valor.

He takes the branch and starts hitting the snake. A few

swings accidentally hit Prince Valor on the arm.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Owww, stop hitting me!

    MURRAY

Sorry Prince, Im just trying to

get the snake off of you.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Well, hit him, not me.

The snake finally relinquishes his grip from Prince Valor

    and slithers off of him.

Prince Valor grabs his throat and coughs.

    MURRAY

    Are you OK Prince Valor?

    PRINCE VALOR

    (coughing)

    Yes, Im OK.

The snake slithers back down the path, when he gets to the

edge of the trees he turns and looks back at the prince and

    Murray.

    SNAKE

You didnt have to hit me with a

branch so many times. I have

    feelings too you know.

    PRINCE VALOR

    (perplexed)

    Yeah, ummm, sorry.

The snake heads back into the trees.

    PRINCE VALOR (contd)

That was a little bit odd.

    MURRAY

    You got that right.

    PRINCE VALOR

Lets pack up and continue on our

    way.

    MURRAY

How are we going to cross the

river? Its not like we have a

    boat.

Prince Valor takes out his map and studies it for a bit.

    PRINCE VALOR

Looking at my map, it looks likethe river thins out towards the

east. So lets just walk along

the river until it gets small

    enough to walk across.

The prince and Murray start packing up their camp.

    LATER ON ALONG THE RIVER

The two are walking along the river until they get to a

point where its only 15-20 feet across.

    PRINCE VALOR

OK, I think this is the skinniest

part of the river. I think.

    MURRAY

I wonder how deep it is.

    Prince Valor surveys the river.

    PRINCE VALOR

I dont know, I guess Ive just

been busy with my chess lessons

    lately.

    MURRAY

    Ahhh, I see.

    PRINCE VALOR

So, theres only one way to find

out how deep this river is.

    Valor looks at Murray.

    MURRAY

OK, fine. Once again mans best

    friend to the rescue.

Murray sticks his paw into the river.

    MURRAYOhhh, its a little chilly.

    PRINCE VALOR

    MURRAY

In a second. I have to get used

    to the water temperature. Its

    cold you know.

    couple seconds.

    MURRAY

Its about two and a half feet,

    no more than three.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Good.

Prince Valor grabs his knapsack and gets into the water.

He screams out after feeling the coldness of the river.

    PRINCE VALOR

    (screams)

    Owwww! Its cold!

    MURRAY

    I told you.

Murray continues treading water in the middle of the river

as he waits for the prince.

The prince slowly walks across the river. As the water

gets deeper, he holds his knapsack high over his head sothat it doesnt get wet.

Valor meets up with Murray in the middle of the river then

they head to the other side. Murrays leading the way

swimming as Valor continues walking behind him.

As soon as they get out on the other side of the river,

Murray shakes the water off of him.

Valor watches then mimics Murray by trying to shake the

water off of himself, to no avail.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Im fine.

Murray turns around and sees that there is another forest

    in front of them.

    MURRAY

    (sarcastically)

Oh great, another forest to go

    through.

Prince Valor takes his map out and looks at it again.

    PRINCE VALOR

Yeah, were only half way through

the forest. So lets get going!

The prince picks up his knapsack and runs into the forest

    followed by Murray.

    LATER ON IN THE FOREST

Prince Valor and Murray are walking along the path in a

particularly dense part of the forest.

Suddenly a bunch of tree branches behind them start to

    shake.

Murray stands still to listen for it again.

    MURRAY

Prince Valor, did you hear that?

    PRINCE VALOR

I dont know, I dont think I heard

    anything.

Prince Valor stops walking and looks around the forest withMurray.

Murray focuses on a particular part of the forest. He sees

a shadowy figure hiding behind a few trees.

    MURRAY

    I think were being watched.

    PRINCE VALOR

    You think?

    MURRAY

Yes. Over there, in the trees.

Prince Valor walks over to the trees to take a deeper look.

    MURRAY

    See it?

The prince eyes the shadowy figure in the trees.

    PRINCE VALOR

Yeah, I think I see something.

Suddenly, the branches shake again as the prince stands

    right in front of them.

This sudden movement scares Prince Valor and he runs back

into the middle of the path, behind Murray.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Theres something definitely in

    there.

Murray goes sniffing up to the trees.

Im pretty worldly when it comes

    PRINCE VALOR

So you said your name is Theodore?

    THEODORE

Sadly I dont have any family.

    Im an orphan.

    PRINCE VALOR

Why dont you have any family?

    THEODORE

The humans came and captured them

    SNUGGIE VENDOR

It keeps you warm during those pesky

No longer do you have to gather up

leaves and branches for a makeshift

Prince Valor, lets go. We can

    shop somewhere else.

Prince Valor is still rifling through the stand.

    PRINCE VALOR

No, wait. Theres a lot of good

    stuff here though.

    THEODORE

Maybe so, but this place gives me

    the creeps.

    PRINCE VALOR

Relax. Dont be such a nervous

    Nelly. Everything will be justfine.

    THEODORE

    OK, I trust you.

Valor picks up an apple, studies it and then shows it to

    Murray.

    PRINCE VALOR

See Murray. The vendor might be

a bit strange but he has really

    good apples.

The vendor comes back over to Prince Valor.

    EVIL VENDOR

Say, you look like youre dressed

    in royal clothing.

    PRINCE VALOR

    (naively)

Well I am, Im Prince Valor.

    EVIL VENDOR

    (menacingly)

    Ohhhh, a prince!

    PRINCE VALOR

    (naively)

Thats right, my dad is the King.

    EVIL VENDOR

Ohhh how wonderful! I have the

kings very own son right in front

of me at my little stand. What a

    special day!

The vendor stays quiet for a few moments as he thinks up a

    plan.

    EVIL VENDOR

Come, come to the backroom. I

have a lot of items for sale back

there that are not available to

the general public. Its the least

I can do for a prince.

The vendor walks over to the curtain behind the stand andopens it up to reveal a small room filled with food and

    clothing.

    EVIL VENDOR

    Come young prince.

Prince Valor walks over to the curtain, hes followed by

    Murray and Theodore.

The vendor lets the prince in but he stops Murray and

    Theodore.

    EVIL VENDOR

Ohhh, this is a special room,

reserved just for VIPs like Prince

Valor. You two will have to wait

    outside.

Prince Valor looks at Murray and Theodore to reassure them.

    PRINCE VALOR

Its fine boys, Ill be OK.

Murray and Theodore walk back in front of the stand as

Prince Valor walks into the back room followed by the

    vendor.

Once theyre in the room, the vendor closes the curtain

    behind him.

    EVIL VENDORS BACKROOM

Prince Valor is looking at all the products that are lining

    the walls.

    PRINCE VALOR

So can I buy anything back here?

    EVIL VENDOR

    (menacingly)

    Prince Valor. Youre awfully far

away from home. Does your father

    know youre here?

    PRINCE VALOR

    Ummm, not exactly.

    EVIL VENDOR

    He doesnt?

    PRINCE VALOR

    No.

    EVIL VENDOR

Well what are you doing in these

    parts of the kingdom?

    PRINCE VALOR

Im on a top secret mission.

    EVIL VENDOR

    Top secret? So mysterious. Whats

    the mission?

    PRINCE VALOR

I cant tell you. Its top secret.

The room fills with awkward silence for several moments

until its broken by the vendor.

    EVIL VENDOR

Tell me. How much do you think the

king would pay for the safe return

    of his son, the prince?

    PRINCE VALOR

    (confused)

    What?

The vendor reaches behind his back and takes out a small

    sword from his waistband.

    EVIL VENDOR

I wonder how much youre worth to

    the King.

Prince Valor is surprised to see that the sword is the

    magical Sword of Alchemy.

    PRINCE VALOR

    (surprised)

    The sword!

    EVIL VENDORS STAND

Murray and Theodore are standing in front of the stand

waiting for Prince Valor to come out.

    THEODORE

Whats taking Prince Valor so long?

    MURRAY

I dont know. But while were

waiting we should at least load

    up on supplies.

Murray grabs a few empty bags from the counter. He keeps

two and gives one to Theodore.

    MURRAY

Lets grab some stuff. Well pay

when they come out of the backroom.

Murray and Theodore start packing their bags with items

    from the stand.

    THEODORE

Theyre still in there. Im getting

worried, do you think we should

    check it out?

    MURRAY

    Its probably a good idea.

Murray and Theodore put down their bags. Then Murray looks

around the stand to see if there is any common item that

they could use as a weapon.

He points to a small wooden bench sitting next to the

    stand.

    MURRAY

Here, break a leg off of that bench.

Theodore walks over to the bench, flips it over and breaksa leg off of it.

    EVIL VENDORS BACKROOM

The evil vendor is blocking the exit as he holds his sword.

    PRINCE VALOR

Where did you get that sword?

The vendor looks down at his sword.

    EVIL VENDOR

Ohh, this little thing? It was a

    present from my mom.

    PRINCE VALOR

No it isnt, its the Sword of

    Alchemy.

    EVIL VENDOR

    So what if it is?

    PRINCE VALOR

    It doesnt belong to you.

    EVIL VENDOR

You dont either, but thats not

going to stop me from taking you.

The evil vendor slowly walks towards Prince Valor with his

    sword held high.

    PRINCE VALOR

    What?

Prince Valor backs up until hes in the corner of the room.

Once in the corner he sits down on the ground.

    EVIL VENDOR

I wonder what the King would do

if I mailed him a finger or an

ear of his beloved son. Would he

pay whatever ransom I ask of him?

    (pauses)

    I think he would.

Prince Valor looks more scared as the vendor gets closer to

    him.

Just as the evil vendor hovers right over him and grabs the

princes ear, Murray and Theodore come running into the

    room.

Murray immediately attacks the evil vendor, biting his leg,

as Theodore hits him behind the other knee with the wooden

    piece from the bench.

After Theodore hits him, he runs over to help the prince.

The vendor screams out in pain and drops the sword. He

tries to shake Murray off of him but to no avail, he has a

    firm grip on his leg.

    EVIL VENDOR

Get off me you stupid dog!

The vendor tries to swat the dog away but it doesnt faze

    Murray.

Theodore helps Valor stand up and rushes him towards the

    exit.

Once at the exit, the prince turns back to Murray.

    PRINCE VALOR

Murray, grab the sword, its the

    Sword of Alchemy!

Murray releases the vendor then grabs the sword in his

mouth. All three of them run out of the backroom.

The vendor goes down on one knee to quickly re-cooperate

from his injury. He limps out of the room and tries to

    chase the three of them.

Before running off, Prince Valor and Theodore collect the

bags that they left by the stand.

    CENTER OF THE MARKETPLACE

Prince Valor, Murray and Theodore run through the middle of

the busy marketplace. Theyre dodging all the other

shoppers, bobbing and weaving and jumping over and crawling

    under things when necessary.

Murray is still running with the sword in his mouth.

The evil vendor is chasing them but since hes limpingaround hes far behind.

    THEODORE

    Is he still chasing us?

Prince Valor turns to look behind him to see where the

    vendor is.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Hes still back there, buthes

    getting farther and farther away.(pauses)

    Keep running!

The three off them finally make it out of the marketplace

and run off into an open field.

Several seconds later, the evil vendor makes it to the edge

    of the marketplace too.

Very exhausted, he leans up against a small shack to catch

his breath. He is breathing very heavily.

The vendor watches as Valor, Murray and Theodore run

through the open field. Theyre getting further away with

    each passing second.

    EVIL VENDOR

    Youre lucky kid. Very lucky.

    EXT. OPEN FIELD DAY

The three are still running as fast as they can.

Prince Valor looks back behind him again and notices that

the evil vendor is not chasing them anymore, so he stops

    running.

    PRINCE VALOR

OK boys, we can stop. Hes gone.

With that, Murray and Theodore stop running as well. All

three are out of breath and breathing heavily.

Murray finally drops the sword from his mouth.

    MURRAY

    Thats a relief.

    PRINCE VALOR

We got it Murray! We got the sword

    of Alchemy!

    MURRAY

    Unbelievable, what are the chances.

    PRINCE VALOR

I dont know and I dont care. Im

just happy that we got it.

    THEODORE

Whats so special about this sword?

    PRINCE VALOR

This sword will help us defeat the

dragon. This is the only kind of

sword with the power to be able

    to do that.

Theodore takes a closer look at the sword and picks it up.

    THEODORE

    So it has magical powers?

    MURRAY

    You could say that.

Murray looks around the open field.

    MURRAY

    So, where are we?

Prince Valor takes his map out and looks at it.

    PRINCE VALOR

Im not exactly sure. This area

isnt called out on the map.

Valor takes out a compass, lifts it up in the air then

    points in a direction.

    PRINCE VALOR (contd)

But according to my compass, we

    should continue heading this way,

    east.

Murray puts the sword back in his mouth and he continues

walking in the open field along with Prince Valor andMurray.

LATER ON IN THE OPEN FIELD

The three come upon a steep hill at the end of the open

    field.

    PRINCE VALOR

I think well have to navigate

this hill since this is the

direction were supposed to headin. It doesnt look like theres

    any other way.

    MURRAY

    Its awfully steep.

    PRINCE VALOR

Thats OK buddy, jump on my back.

    Ill give you a ride.

Murray jumps on Prince Valors back and he and Theodore

    walk up the hill.

Once they make it to the top of the hill, they look out and

are in awe to see a large savanna for as far as the eye can

    see.

Murray climbs off of Valors back and all three of them

stand next to each other in silence.

    THE GREAT SAVANNA

The grassy plains are filled with groups of lions and cubs

playfully running around, giraffes feeding from trees,

hippos staying cool in a shallow lake, zebras walking

around in their herds and monkeys swinging from tree to

    tree.

    THEODORE

    (in awe)

    Whoa. What is this place?

Prince Valor takes out his map and looks at it again.

    PRINCE VALOR

Well, according to my map this is

    the Great Savanna.

    THEODORE(in awe)

    Its amazing.

    PRINCE VALOR

Look at all the animals. Theres

    giraffes

    THEODORE

    Ohhh, theres some zebras over

    there

    PRINCE VALOR

Those hippos have the right idea,

cooling themselves down in the lake.

    THEODORE

The little lion cubs are cute.

    THEODORE

    Theyre all looking like theyre

having so much fun. I want to

    play with them.

    Theodore runs down the hill.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Wait Theodore, hold up!

Theodore doesnt listen and continues running, hes

followed by Prince Valor and Murray.

    PRINCE VALOR

    Theodore!

Once Theodore gets into the grassy plains he starts

playfully running with a group of zebras. Hes laughing as

he tries to keep up with them.

    THEODORE

    Weeee! Weeee!

Prince Valor and Murray try their best to keep up with

Theodore but hes a faster runner.

    PRINCE VALOR

OK, OK, zebras are fine. Just

stay away from the cubs. They

may be cute but their parents

    certainly are not.

The zebras speed up and run off, leaving Theodore behind.

He stands there and watches them run off.

    THEODORE(disappointedly)

    Awww, come back friends!

With Theodore standing still, this allows Valor and Murray

    to catch up to him.

They are both hunched over, simultaneously out of breath

    but still breathing heavily.

    THEODORE

    What?

    MURRAY

    You couldve gotten hurt.

    THEODORE

I was just trying to have some

    fun.

    PRINCE VALOR

Theodore, try to keep in mind our

goal. Were out here to find the

dragon, to find the princess. We

    cant be wasting time running

    around with zebras.

Theodore is embarrassed that Prince Valor scolds him so he

looks down at the ground when he answers.

    THEODORE

    (ashamed)Youre right, Im sorry.

    PRINCE VALOR

Thats OK, Theodore. Just try to

stay with us from now on.

    THEODORE

    You got it Prince Valor.

    PRINCE VALOR

    OK, lets carry on.

The three of them walk through the grassy plains past a

bunch of gazelles grazing, koala bears sitting in a tree,

cubs running around, wildebeests roaming about and vultures

    flying overhead.

Prince Valor looks up to the see vultures flying over them.

    How so?

    PRINCE VALOR

Such a formal name for such a young

    MR. ELEPHANT

Ive always been really small in
