But, aren’t there discrepancies and inaccuracies in the Bible. How can I trust it?

CONSIDER SCIENCE: The “science” of one decade is often proven totally incorrect in the next. Time after time, per-ceived discrepancies in the Bible have later been proven un-founded as more information is uncovered. ASK YOURSELF: How much trust should I place in human wisdom? Should I believe something only after science has proven it?

CONSIDER THE SCRIBE: There are a few instanc-es when a scribe made a mistake copying the text. Ear-lier manuscripts discovered in more recent times have shown that the mistakes are very limited and do not affect the theme or message of the Bible. ASK YOUR-SELF: If a scribe made a mistake, does that make the original message faulty?

CONSIDER TRANSLATION: A translator could mistakenly use an incorrect word. ASK YOURSELF: Has the meaning of a word changed since my version of the Bible was written? Have I looked up the original word in a Hebrew or Greek dictionary?

CONSIDER THE CONTEXT: Some words in the Bible are simply accurately recording an event. For ex-ample, the advice given by Job’s friends was not inspired, however, the writer was inspired by God to faithfully record the story so we can learn from it today. ASK YOUR-

SELF: Have I investigated the source of the subject and the context of the text?

CONSIDER HUMANS: Humans are prone to misinter-pretation of scriptures due to reliance on self and lack of thor-

ough investigation. ASK YOURSELF: Have I studied what other parts of the Bible teach about this subject? Have I prayed and

asked for the Holy Spirit’s guidance?

But, isn’t using the Bible to prove the Bible, circular logic? Let’s briefly depart from our regular Bible verse exploration to address this concern. Consider the following:

PROPHECY HAS COME TRUE Without fail, Bible prophecies have hap-

pened exactly as outlined. Predictions made hundreds of years prior to their fulfillment provide solid evidence of divine inspiration!

IT HAS A COHESIVE STORYLINE Many different authors wrote the Bible over

hundreds of years, yet there is a consistent, common-threaded and ever-clarifying story. This strongly indicates a common inspirational source.

IT TESTIFIES OF A HIGHER POWER Everytime you read the Bible, something new can

be learned. Its sound advice, proven wisdom and timeless concepts testify of superior authorship.

ARCHAEOLOGY VERIFIES BIBLE RECORDS Archaeologists continue to uncover more and

more evidence to verify Bible records.

HISTORICAL WRITERS CONFIRM STORIES Reputable historical writers from various

time periods confirm Bible stories.

IT CHANGES LIVES Bible reading affects the conscience and

changes lives. A personal experience thus gained presents powerful evi-dence of a higher power and ren-ders confidence in the promises contained in the Bible.

A quest for evidence FROM the Bible and a challenge to

implement the verdict.

Examine Prophecy

What prophecies in the Old Testament did Jesus fulfill? There are over 300 predictions in the Old Testament concerning Christ. Some calculate this to be a one in eighty-four with one hundred zeros after it chance, that these prophecies could be fulfilled in the life of one man. Yet they were fulfilled, completely, in the life of Jesus. Here are three of those prophecies.

A) Isaiah 7:14, Matt. 1:18,25 He was born of a ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___.

B) Psalm 22:18, John 19:23-24 His ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ were divided.

C) Isaiah 40:3, Matt. 3:1-3 One came before him to ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ the way.

What are the prophecies of the World Empires? How could anyone look ahead twenty-five hundred years and predict the status of the nations of western Europe? Only God, who knows the future, could accomplish this. This gives us additional proof that the Bible is the inspired word of God. Read Daniel chapter 2. It prophesies of the World Empires that would rule from that time until Christ’s second coming. From history, we know that there were four world empires. They are listed below. Write the things from Daniel’s vision that represent each kingdom.

Empire #1 = Babylon (609 BC to 538 BC) Represented by: _______________________________________

Empire #2 = Media/Persia (538 BC to 331 BC) Represented by: ___________________________________

Empire #3 - Greece (331 BC to 161 BC) Represented by: ________________________________________

Empire #4 = Rome (161 BC to 438 AD) Represented by: ________________________________________

Divided Empire = Rome is the last world empire and it divided into what became the nations of Europe. (476 AD to Christ’s 2nd Coming) Represented by: ___________________________________________

Empire #5 = Christ’s Kingdom (Lasts for Eternity) Represented by: ________________________________

What do prophecies reveal that I will hear and see in the last days? While the Bible is clear that no one knows the exact time of Jesus’ return, it is equally clear that we should recognize that the time is near. Of the multitude of signs and predictions of last day events revealed in the Bible, many of them are already fulfilled! Here are just a few of the signs.

A) Mark 13:21-23 False ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ and ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___.

B) Daniel 12:4 ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ will increase.

C) Luke 21:25-28 Distress of ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___, and the ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ roaring.

D) Matthew 24:29 The ___ ___ ___ darkened and the ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ fall.

E) 2 Tim. 3:1-5 People with a form of ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___, but not the power.

Why do you think the Lord has waited this long before returning?

A) 2 Peter 3:9 He is not willing that any should ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___.

What should I do while I wait for the Lord to return?

A) Luke 21:34 Don’t be overcharged [burdened] with the ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ of life.

B) James 5:7-8 Be patient and ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ [turn resolutely in a certain direction, to set fast, confirm] your heart.

B) Read 2 Cor. 9:8 ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ E H S V I G E U O Y C A G E R The Greek word translated to “Grace” means the divine influence upon the heart and its reflection in the

vation hinge upon the condition of your heart. Jesus wants your heart, which means he wants you to truly believe in Him and truly want to do the right thing.

C) Isn’t it good enough just to do the right thing, even if my heart isn’t in it? Matthew 15:8 - “This people...honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is ____ ____ ____ from ____ ____ .”How do I accept what Jesus offers?

A) Psalm 51:10 - “___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ in me a ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” God will cleanse [purify] your heart through His creative powers. But we must first let Him in. He will not force us. Just ask Him to help.

B) Psalm 119:10 - “With my ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ heart have I ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ [pursuit, diligently, frequent] thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.” Seek Him earnestly and often.
