LORD, you are our Mighty, Awesome, Merciful God. You created us to give you glory, honor and praise. But we have rebelled against you and against your revealed will. We have not loved you as you deserve. We have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. Thank you for the death of your Beloved Son, Jesus the Righteous Redeemer, and for the full forgiveness which he secured for us on Calvary’s hill. In His mighty name we pray. Amen.

Scripture ReadingHebrews 1:1-2:3

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Page 60: “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ.

Scripture ReadingHebrews 1:1-2:3

4 having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. 5 For to which of the angels did God ever say,

“You are my Son, today I have begotten you”?

Or again,“I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son”?

Page 61: “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ.

Scripture ReadingHebrews 1:1-2:3

6 And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says,

“Let all God's angels worship him.”7 Of the angels he says,

“He makes his angels winds,     and his ministers a flame of fire.”8 But of the Son he says,

“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,     the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of

your kingdom.

Page 62: “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ.

Scripture ReadingHebrews 1:1-2:3

9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness

beyond your companions.”10 And,

“You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; 11 they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a

garment,

Page 63: “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ.

Scripture ReadingHebrews 1:1-2:3

12 like a robe you will roll them up,     like a garment they will be changed.

But you are the same,     and your years will have no end.”13 And to which of the angels has he ever said,

“Sit at my right hand     until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”?14 Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?

Page 64: “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ.

Scripture ReadingHebrews 1:1-2:3

2 Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. 2 For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, 3 how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard.

Be Still, My Soul (a Poetic Hymn-song Borrowed from Ages Past)

Someone’s crying, Lord,Someone’s crying and can’t stop,Someone else needs to cry but just feels numb,Someone has pain that won’t go away,Someone else drowns away the pain every day,Someone deeply hopes and prays to get married,Someone else wants divorce, because life has grown weary.

Page 75: “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ.

1. Be still my soul, the Lord is on thy side. The world is at stake,Darkness trying to win,Lies on every side,Even Christians given to sin.Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;People are stealing and buying and crying,Saying they just don’t have enough,While all around them neighbors are dying.Leave to thy God to order and provide; In every change He faithful will remain.

Page 76: “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ.

We are a people suffering grief,Death and sorrow all around,We could use a little relief.Be still, my soul; thy best, thy heavenly, FriendThrough thorny ways leads to a joyful end.The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases,His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning, every morningHis compassions never fail.

Page 77: “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ.

2. Be still, my soul; thy God doth undertakeTo guide the future as He has the past.Lord, please restore the joy of the living,Freedom from sin, knowing we are forgiven. The story isn’t over yet.Thy hope, thy confidence, let nothing shake; All now mysterious shall be bright at last.Help us keep praying for what we hope for and do not yet see.Be still, my soul; the waves and winds still knowHis voice who ruled them while He dwelt below.

Page 78: “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ.

3. Be still, my soul; the hour is hastening onWhen we shall be forever with the Lord,So thank God for what He’s given, the moment we live in,No time wasted, knowing we’ve been forgiven.Believing, loving, living, forgiving,Dying to sin, so that we will be risen. When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored.Be still, my soul; when change and tears are past,All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
