TOOLSNEEDED
Usually,apieceforacardstockmodeliscutoutintwostages.First,thepieceisseparatedfromtherestofthepiecesbycuttingroughlyarounditwithscissors.
Don’tcutalongthelinesatthisstep.Oncethepieceisseparated,youcanworkonitwithoutdamagingotherpieces.It’sbesttodo
thescoringandfoldingbeforeproceedingtothefinecutting.
Cutting
Work on one piece at a time:• Scorealongthedottedlines.• Cutalongthesolidlines.• Foldalongthedottedlines,butdon’taddgluetoanypiecesyet.
VERY IMPORTANT: Tryoutthepiecestobegluedbeforeapplyingtheglue.Thiswillhelpyouunderstandhowthepiecesfittogether,andyouwillbeabletotakenoteofanyadjustmentsthatmightbeneeded.Thenapplyasmallamountofglueonthetabindicatedbyablackdot.
Mountain fold
Valley fold
Scorethefoldlinestomakeacrispstraightfold.It’sespeciallyimportantforthesmallestpiecestobescoredbeforefolding.Toscore,placeametalruleralongthefoldline,andthenpresswithadullpoint(adrypenordullknife)alongthefoldlinetocompressthepaper.Thiswillhelptoachieveacrispfold.
Therearetwokindsoffolds:
Mountain foldgenerallymeansthatthetextureisontheoutside,whileonavalley foldthetextureisusuallyinside.
Mostpiecesonthemodelrequireamountain fold,thoughafewuseavalley fold.Valleyfoldswillbeindicatedonthemodelpieceswiththevalleyfoldsymbol.

Assembling wallsWhenassemblingawallwithawindoworadoor,orafloorwithahole,suchasinthetower,beforegluingittogetheryouneedtofirstgluethedoororwindowframeintoplace.
Thenfoldovertheotherpieceofthewallandglueittotheframeaswell.Afterward,gluetheothertabsintoposition.
Don’ttrytoglueeverythingatthesametime,orthegluemightdrybeforeyouhavefinishedassembling.
Preparethewallandframebyscoringandcutting.Doapre-foldtopreparethepiece,thengluetheframetoonesideofthewall.

Pieces with extra color borderSomepieceshaveextracoloraroundthem.Theseincludedoors,people’sarms,spears,windows,andmore.Foldthesepiecesinhalfandgluebeforecutting,sothatthepiecewillhavetextureonbothsides.Simplyfoldalongthedottedlineandapplysomeglue,preferablyusingagluestick.
Oncetheglueonthepiecehasdried,cutitout.Youdon’thavetocutrightontheline,it’sfinetoleaveamillimeterortwoaroundit.Foldhere
onthedottedline.
Whencutting,leaveamillimeterortwoaroundtheblackline.
Caution•Becarefulwhenusingscissorsorapapercuttingknife.•Glue,scissors,andothertoolsmaybedangerous,sobesuretokeepthemoutofthereachofyoungchildren.
