We live in a beautiful old town Pskov. It’s in thenorth-west of Russia, not far from Saint-Petersburg.

If you drive a bit you can come to the boarderof Estonia or Latvia.

Pskov has its emblem and anthem.

On the emblem you can see a leopard. It is asymbol of strength and bravery of the city.Pskov took part in many battles and wars.

Our city has a great history. The name of Pskovwas first written in the Chronicles in 903 AD.

And during the time many famous people livedand worked in Pskov.

It all started with Princess Olga:she said to build the city.

Another famous ruler of the citywas Alexander Nevsky.

Many rulers of thecountry came to Pskov:

• Ivan IV

• Peter the Great

• Nikolas II

• Vladimir Lenin

and of course scientists,writers, poets, artistsand musicians.

For the Tourists:

If you come to Pskov you need to know about theweather.

In Autumn the weather is dull,windy and rainy. But it can be sunnyin September. You need to havegloves, coat, raincoat, boots,sweaters and of course an umbrella.

In winter the weather is windy,rainy and snowy. It can also befrosty and icy. You need to havewarm gloves, jacket, boots,sweaters and hats.

In spring it can be rainy and wet.But it is also sunny and warm inMay. So you need coats gloves,boots, trousers and sweaters forMarch and April. And in May youcan wear T-shirts, skirts, shorts andsandals.

In summer it’s usually warm andsunny. But it can rain, too. So takeyour swimming-suits, sandals,dresses, shorts, T-shirts and don’tforget the sunglasses.

In our city there are more than 60 churches andmost of them are more than 10 centuries old.

Cathedrals:

The main cathedral in our city is the TrinityCathedral. It is the symbol of Pskov. It is the 3rd

building – at first they were wooden but burned.

It has 5 domes and it is beautifully decoratedinside.

You can also visit museums.

The main historical ones are PogankinChambers and Prikaznye Chambers. There youcan see how people in Pskov lived before.

If you want to have fun you can go to thecinema. We have 2 cinemas in Pskov. They arePobeda and Oktyabr. There you can seedifferent films and cartoons, even in 3D.

If you want to see a play you can go to thetheater. We have two of them – Pushkintheatre and Concert Hall. And they givewonderful performances and concerts. Evenactors and singers from Moscow and Saint-Petersburg come to our city.

When you get hungry, you can eat in manydifferent cafes and restaurants. You can find foodof many countries there: typically Russian (DvorPodznoeva), Italian (My Italy, Rozario), Japanese(Vasabi, Tokio) and Ukranian (Dikanka).

And if you look for interesting activities – we havemany festivals. We celebrate public holidays andour own ones, like:

• Pushkin festival

• Day of the city

• Maslenitza and many others.
