My Place in the WorldTurn your students into National Geographic

photographers and reporters!

A multi-country competition in which your students work together to createan e-newsletter in English that presents their favorite place in the world.

Prizes:

Regional PrizesOne for each category and level:

a. Prize for leading teacher: A laptop plus 6 online teacher training courses (to choose from our ELT Advantage catalog).

b. Prize for winning students: 1 MP3 player and a Collins COBUILD dictionary for each student.

c. Prize for winning school: A one-year access to the Online Footprint Reading Library and a Collins COBUILD dictionary.

Further information:

· The competition is open to students between 9 and 17 year olds at primary and secondary schools or language schools in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Perú and Uruguay.

· Students are divided in categories according to their age and in levels according to their English proficiency:

· Pre-Teens: 9-12 year olds ·Basic level (CEF: A1, A2) ·Independent level (CEF: B1, B2) · Teens: 13-17 year olds ·Basic level (CEF: A1, A2) ·Independent level (CEF: B1, B2) ·Proficient (CEF: C1)· The maximum number of students in each

group is 6.

How do I take part?

Introduce the idea to your students. Organize them in groups (maximum 6 students in each group). Read and explain the rules of the competition to your students. Optional: Invite teachers from other areas, such as Social Studies.

Perform a trial lesson (*) which will help students develop the project.

Register your participation in the competition by email at [email protected] before May 30th, 2011.

(*) There are 2 trial lessons (one for A2 and one for B1 students) and Teacher notes available for download.
