topthere seems to be enough room for a medium-sized slice of bread
well-sized button on the side
on the setting 2, one side is toasted properly althought not evenly
the other side is far from being toasted the toast had to be put back in the slot is wide enough to toast
after about 30 seconds, the toast started to burn
even pushing the side button up does not help use an additional tool eg a fork

During the process of
I decided to change the location of the push-down bottom and place it to the other side of the toaster.
it leaves more space for setting buttons on the front panel.
change the initial layout of the power and cancel buttons.
Additionally, I decided to make the corners of the slots angular not round because the slots are slightly more spacious that way.

- Display screens to be placed in buildings to give real-time data on the buildings’ energy consumption. These will hope-fully be in place by October. http://www.estates.salford.ac.uk/page/Energy_Effi ciency
- Currently as part of the University’s non-pay saving meas-ures we are developing a furniture reuse scheme. The scheme will match the needs of departments with unused/wanted fur-niture already on-site. The scheme will consist of an interac-tive web tool with details of furniture available and a central store.
- Increasing awareness of biodiversity on campus through fur-ther development of a tree trail, installing bird boxes, and the Artist on the Lawn project. http://www.estates.salford.ac.uk/page/Biodiversity
- Student accommodation clear out has been completed. This trial clear out has enabled us to reduce the amount of items going to landfi ll from Castle Irwell and the items have been donated to charities such as The Mustard Tree who work with homeless people. http://www.estates.salford.ac.uk/page/waste
- The EST is starting a programme of presentations to senior managers and heads of departments to promote the Green Rep programme and the work done by the Environment and Sustainability Team. If you would like us to come and talk in your offi ce or department please let us know.
- Our Travel and Transport offi cer has been working with the fi nance department to look at a cycle to work scheme through salary sacrifi ce and also offering interest free loans for those staff members who want to buy annual/ season travel tickets. Keep a look out on the travel pages for more information. http://www.estates.salford.ac.uk/page/Sustainable_Travel

I hope that you all managed to attend the VC’s Thank You event. The Environment and Sus-tainability Team had a presence in the main tent giving staff the opportunity to come and ask us questions about what our team does, how we can help and about the Green Rep Network. We are more than happy to answer any questions that you or your colleagues may have in regard to green issues by emailing [email protected].
RECENT EVENTS
As is with most departments we in Estates are getting ready for the new academic year in Sep-tember and thinking up exciting new ways to engage students at Welcome Week.
o you have anything to share with the network? Any problems you are having or come across any solutions? Let us know and we can mention them in the next newsletter so the network can also benefi t.
Here again for those of you who missed it is the in-formation passed over by Sue Hughes at StudentLife about buying recycled content paper.
TIPS
Sue contacted Premier Paper (a University supplier) who happily sent over several samples of recycled paper and they chose to try out two of these, loading the copiers up with a couple of reams of each. They haven’t had any adverse comments and have decided to purchase a paper that is 75% recycled and is 20p cheaper per ream than virgin paper from Lyreco.
Lyreco £2.25/ream plus VAT (80GSM)Premier Paper Evolve 75 £2.05/ream plus VAT (75GSM)Chosen Paper Green Planet £2.04/ream plus VAT (80GSM)
