Technology comes from a Greek word “techne”, which means craft or art .

Educational Technology ”, means it refers to the art or craft of responding to educational methods and resources for the ultimate goal of facilitating the learning process.

The organization of this course on educational technology 1 is based on the broad meaning of educational technology. That’s why we start this course with a comprehensive understanding of the term Educational Technology.

BOON AND BANE OF TECHNOLOGY

Technology is a boon or bane to education , a blessing or a curse to education.

Technology serve as boon or bane depending on how people use it and apply it.

Page 10: my portfolio in Educational TEch....ruth megie

TECHNOLOGY AS BOON Technology is a blessing for man .With

technology , there is a lot that we can do which we could not do then.

Technology makes our daily task easier. When not used properly, technology it

becomes a detriment to learning and development.

Technology help us learn new things and acquire new knowledge .

Technology as a Bane When the learners made to accept as gospel truth

information they get from the internet. When learners surfs the internet for pornography. When the TV makes the learners mere spectator not

an active participant in the drama of life. When the learners get glued to his computer for

computer assisted instruction unmindful of the world and so fails to develop the ability to relate to others.

When learners overused and abuse TV or film viewing as a strategy to kill time.

LEARNING THROUGH ED

TECH 1 AND ED TECH 2

Page 13: my portfolio in Educational TEch....ruth megie

THROUGH EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

we learn to be aware with the different instructional media ,

we appreciate how we can use the technology in the application on our daily lives,

we become equipped with knowledge and skills we acquire from the instructional media.

Page 14: my portfolio in Educational TEch....ruth megie

I learned about the history of educational technology. It’s not just the history but also the meaning and the significance of technology in learning.

I also learned to accept critics ,react or comments on one’s presentation. In order for me to have the thumb yes of my audience I have to present my work clearly and perfectly.

Page 15: my portfolio in Educational TEch....ruth megie

Educational technology changes on how people should think logically.

I can use this when I will finish my course and in applying for a job. I will not abuse my learnings just to have some temporary satisfactions.

Page 16: my portfolio in Educational TEch....ruth megie

Educational technology 1 and 2 is concerned with “Integrating Technology into Teaching and Learning.” Specifically this is focused on introducing, reinforcing, supplementing and extending the knowledge and skills to learners so that they can become exemplary users of educational technology.

Page 17: my portfolio in Educational TEch....ruth megie

Mainly directed to student teachers, also professional teachers who may wish to update their knowledge of educational technology, it is our goal that this course can help our target learners to weave technology in teaching with software (computer programmed learning materials) becoming a natural extension of their learning tools.

EDGAR DALE’S CONE OF EXPERIENCE

Page 19: my portfolio in Educational TEch....ruth megie

Edward Dale's Cone of experience was first introduced in his book “Audio-visual methods in teaching” published in 1946. It is an image describing benefit of different types of learning experiences. The Cone was organized by starting with most abstract experiences from its top, changing to most concrete experiences at its bottom. In later editions of the book it was subjected to some minor changes, but the original cone image can be found here.

Page 20: my portfolio in Educational TEch....ruth megie

The importance of Dale's cone of experience is in its assumptions of how we learn more efficiently and in appliance of such resources or activities during the educational process. Assumptions stated in this cone have been of interest to many later psychologists and cognitivist theories.

  1. Direct purposeful experience- it is the first hand experience which serve as the foundation of our learning. It is learning by doing. We build up our reservoir of meaningful information and ideas through seeing, hearing, touching, tasting and smelling.

  2. Contrived experiences- In here we make use of a representative models or mocks up of reality for practical reasons.

3. Dramatized experiences- Through dramatization we can participate in a reconstructed experience, even though the original event is far removed from us in time.

Page 22: my portfolio in Educational TEch....ruth megie

  4. Demonstrations- It is a visualized explanation

of an important fact, idea or process by the use of photographs, drawings, films, displays or guided motions.

5.Study trips- these are excursions, educational trips, and visits conducted to observe an event that is unavailable within the classroom.

6. Exhibits- there are displays to be seen by spectators. They may consist of working models arranged meaningfully or photographs with models, charts, and posters.

Page 23: my portfolio in Educational TEch....ruth megie

7. Television and motion pictures- television and motion pictures can reconstruct the reality of the past so effectively that we are made to feel we are there.

  8. Visual symbols- these are no longer realistic reproduction of physical things for these are highly abstract representations. Examples are charts, graphs, maps, and diagram.

   9. Verbal symbols- they are not like the objects or ideas for which they stand. they usually do not contain visual clues to their meaning.

A STUDENT AFTER ED TECH1 AND 2

Technology plays an important role in the study habits and skills of the students. But, we need to make sure that we are going to be very careful in allowing our students to use the computer and surf the internet for them to avoid discovering things that are not part of their studies. It is always important to let them used some of these technology in education as often as it is in order to prevent forgetting the basic way studying.

Page 25: my portfolio in Educational TEch....ruth megie

The 21st century learners are able to: apply technology to their lives effectively, in a way

they can use it to learn better. what is the importance of educational technology know what is the purpose of the educational

technology make instructional material that is connected to a

particular topic know the right way of using technology know the limitations of using technology
