16 NORTHSIDE, Tuesday, August 9, 2011 My Beauty JAPANESE COSMOLIFTING STIMULATES 21 ACUPUNCTURE POINTS. BUT THE REAL BENEFIT IS THE LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE. SKIN DEEP JAPANESE COSMOLIFTING – A NON-SURGICAL FACELIFT – IS A NON-INVASIVE APPROACH TO LOOKING YOUNGER WRITES ANNA WARWICK NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES, NO WAFTY MUSIC, NO STEAM, NO CREAM, NO NEEDLES, NO KNIVES. WOW. I LOOK 27! Jill Freestone’s Bridgepoint waiting room is packed. Her treatment room is small but bright and covered in colourful diagrams of the foot, ear, and face. She is a former TV exec turned reflexologist (she studied at Nature Care College 10 years ago) and now Jill has a fabulous new technique in her skill set. While facial massage and acupressure in particular is gaining popularity as a way to tone facial muscles, there are different techniques. Some therapists have taken a beauty approach while others, like Jill, are more health orientated. ‘‘I gained my first Diploma of Facial Reflexology with Spanish based, internationally renowned reflexologist Lone Sorensen several years ago, and this February I studied the Japanese Cosmolifting technique with Sorensen,’’ Jill explains. ‘‘Japanese Cosmolifting stimulates 21 acupuncture points through the facial tissue.’’ ‘‘It also tones the muscles of the face to help minimise fine lines’’. The real kicker of the technique is lymphatic drainage. Jill shows me photos of a woman whose face is puffy and tired and her chin invisible. After a treatment, the woman looks clearer, her skin is firmer and tighter and her jawline apparent. Jill sits me down in a foldout bed and makes me comfortable. All she will be using on my skin is organic rosehip oil. The massage is lovely, and while I strain to focus on the points Jill releases on my forehead, I am soon in la-la land. At times it feels like she is unlocking the muscles of my chin. I don’t even realise they are tense until, after a few moments of pressure, they go slack. How long have they been like that? As Jill continues to work her way around my face, there are moments when I feel the energy release all the way down the connective nerves in my body to the soles of my feet. The purpose of this massage technique is not just to relieve facial tension and fluids but to ease tension in the body via the meridians identified in Chinese medicine. I am in a massage trance until I feel a cool, smooth pressure on my brow and cheeks. Is Jill rubbing in a cream? I didn’t realise my skin was so hot until the warmth was eased. Another ball of deliciously cool pressure meets my skin and rolls all remaining tension away When Jill finishes, I am utterly relaxed. She shows me the jade and marble rollers she used, and the oils. No electronic devices, no wafty music, no steam, no cream, no needles no knives no mirrors! ‘‘You look much clearer’’ is all she says. She shows me reflexology maps of the face. The chin represents the stomach, while under the eyes is the kidney area. It’s fascinating. I rush to the bathroom. Wow, I look 27! Well I look very, very relaxed and smooth-skinned. My eyes are bright and any pouchiness (the dreaded double chin) is gone. This is a wonderful treatment that I cannot recommend more highly. Over time the effects are dramatic.
