Effective Performance Metrics are:

• Related to strategic goals;

• Timely;

• Individualized and relevant for each decision maker;

• Consistent and accurate;

• Span a value stream or business process;

• Support a continuous improvement methodology.

Performance Metrics can be:

• Measures - Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) or outcomes;

• Drivers - Key Performance Drivers (KPDs) that affect outcomes or are leading indicators that point to potential outcomes.

Performance Metrics are made actionable by:

• Directly relating KPI and KPD metrics;

• Logically grouping KPI and KPD metrics by value stream, business process or function;

• Providing the capability to filter or drill into metrics to obtain more detail;

• Showing metric snapshots, trends over time, and period over period comparisons;

• Presenting the metrics in context - either by dimension or time;

• Capturing user knowledge about the metrics and related analysis;

• Using trends, forecasts, Pareto, control charts, variance, correlation and lean process analysis to determine the characteristics of an issue;

• Performing “what-if” analysis to determine the most appropriate scenario or action to take.

The Visual Designer provides a “canvas” to select a particular component you’d like to copyand modify or create new components. You can interactively make the modifications you’d like in order to personalize your experience.

The Visual Designer makes it easy to change alerts, the way the dial looks and the metric to be displayed on the dial. You can also modify the localized display names.

In-Dial Controls MyDIALS already has the ability to apply filters and sorts to displayed data, but now Version 3.3 puts this power directly in the hands of every user.

Extended Collaboration In addition to the “About” boxes that provide dial and metric definitions and guidance and the ability to attach, view and edit Notes attached to specific data points, myDIALS now provides the Text Dials that allow explanatory text for a time period to be placed on any dashboard. This ensures the contextual information can be viewed in conjunction with the metrics presented for that time period as shown below.

A further enhancement in myDIALS 3.3 is the new Media Center. This provides the ability to store documents, reference material, links to training videos etc, and then users can view this information if they need assistance in making decisions to improve performance.

Communicating Information to Stakeholders Coaxis, Inc. is a leading software development and management company. With myDIALS, the Coaxis finance and sales units will be able to better communicate information to key stakeholders, improving decision making to hone the company’s competitive edge. myDIALS allows Coaxis to have more immediate access to pertinent operations information. Previously, Coaxis created monthly reports using Excel and Sharepoint. That option proved to be cumbersome and time consuming, and failed to provide the immediate, focused information that its audience required. “Employees were spending an inordinate amount of time preparing updated reports for the executive team,” said Carl Billings, Financial Analyst, Coaxis. “myDIALS will potentially pay for itself simply by eliminating the need to bring in an additional staff.” myDIALS allows Coaxis to compile, display and monitor multiple business and operational measures in a single snapshot view. The ability to aggregate information across multiple departments eliminates the need to send separate reports to multiple executives.

myDIALS makes sophisticated analytics easy to use for everyone. Once a performance issue has been identified, the optimal corrective action must be determined. Rather than wait for a review by a business analyst, each person making an operational decision can quickly obtain the information they need to make those decisions quickly and effectively. Examining trends, forecasts and controls charts quickly shows whether an issue is an abnormality or an ongoing problem. A Pareto chart can highlight areas contributing most to the problem. And performing “what if” scenario analysis shows which actions will lead to the best business outcome. Combining this level of analytics with the ease-of-use inherent in myDIALS ensures everyone can take advantage of analyses that until now has typically been reserved for a small number of business analysts. The intuitive visual presentation, interactive drills, embedded knowledge, context setting, inherent association of KPI and KPD metrics, interactive scenario analysis and sophisticated analytics allow you to quickly understand performance, identify the root cause of performance issues and determine the best corrective action. Now with the Visual Designer and In-Dial controls, each person can alter the content and layout of the information used for decisions, making them even more effective.

Enhanced Internationalization and Localization myDIALS 3.3 provides multi-currency support where financial metrics are stored and aggregated in both a local currency and a reference currency. Depending on the user’s profile and whether they are part of a subsidiary or corporate headquarters, they will view these metrics either in their local currency or the global reference currency.

myDIALS has also made it easier to localize display names etc through the use of automated translators and the Visual Designer. Again each person will see information in the language of their choice, based on their user profile.

Summary myDIALS 3.3 establishes “Personal BI,” by making it easy for users to personalize their user interface within a few clicks using the new Visual Designer. This version extends Personal BI by giving each user enhanced control over how the information in each dial is presented, through the use of interactive filtering and sorting.

People can collaborate with each other by attaching or adding to note attached to data points, or sharing textual comments about a specific time period. The new Media Center ensures people have access to reference and training materials, integrated into their performance management portal.

In today’s global economy the ability to examine financial metrics in a local or reference currency and the ability to easily localize displayed information in multiple languages is key to ensuring effective communication and consistent understanding. myDIALS 3.3 make localization much easier and now also provides multi-currency support.
