Flexible materials facts

Unlike nylon flexible partial dentures which absorb moisture, DuraFlex is a state-of-the-art thermoplastic light enough to float in water!

DuraFlex and VisiClear are semi-crystalline plastics. The material is not quite as flexible as others on the market, e.g. Nylon products. Studies on nylon products have revealed that they draw moisture in (2% + over a period of 24hours) and trimming nylon has proven to be difficult.

Myerson’s flexible materials virtually don’t absorb any liquid (0.05% over a period of 135 days), which makes these materials much less resistant to staining. Should the patient find surface staining on the device after wearing it, it can be cleaned very easy with a bit of a polish and it will look like new again. During the working process the material stays solid and reaches a melting point. Therefore overheating the material is eliminated. Flexible denture materials are known to be difficult to polish with ordinary acrylic burs. Over time companies have brought out different burs and polishers and technicians have figured out ways to trim flexible materials. However Myerson’s flexible materials can be trimmed with regular acrylic burs, which is a huge advantage for the technician and especially for the dentist at the fitting stage.

DuraFlex and VisiClear Materials

for flexible partial dentures

These flexible materials are semi-crystalline plastics with virtually no liquid absorption (0.05% over a period of 135 days). At the processing stage the material stays solid and will reach a melting point. DuraFlex is more resistant to staining (only surface staining and can be easily polished again).

Myerson’s flexible materials can be trimmed with regular acrylic burs, which is an advantage for the dentist at the fitting stage. VisiClear, a clear version of DuraFlex is used mainly for clasps.

Myerson DuraFlex is a state of the art thermoplastic material with the ideal combination of flexibility, translucency and durability for use in removable partial dentures and tissue-coloured clasps. Ideally injected using Myerson’s new FlexPress automated digital injection. DuraFlex is also compatible with other injection systems.

Myerson DuraCetal is a pure, highly crystalline acetal copolymer resin. Acetals are known engineering thermoplastics and also found in other industries. DuraCetal is an ideal, lightweight alternative to partial Cobalt Chrome denture frameworks. It is also indicated for clasps, unilaterals and provisional crown and bridge work.

FlexPress injection system

The Myerson FlexPress automated injection system is capable of injecting a wide variety of thermoplastic appliances, including flexible partial dentures, clasps, unilaterals and temporaries. All Myerson materials can be processed using pre-programmed settings. You can also save your own settings for any other thermoplastic materials. The integrated heating unit and injector* ensure uniform flow of thermoplastic materials.

*Requires connection to air pressure, minimum 90psi (6.2bar)

EMA Oral appliance

Introducing EMA® (Dental Surgeries, CDTs, Technicians)Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a debilitating sleep-related disorder defined as the cessation of breathing for 10 seconds or more (apnea is a Greek word, meaning “without air”). During sleep, the body’s muscles relax, allowing the soft tissue to obstruct the airway. The body reacts by disrupting deep sleep enough to start breathing again, but deprives the sufferer of getting a “ good night’s sleep”.

Untreated OSA can lead to heart desease, strokes and excessive daytime sleeps. Adversely it might affect the sleep quality of the snorer’s bed partner and diminish the overall quality of life.

How does it work?The EMA Oral Appliance from Myerson works by opening the bite and gently advancing the mandibular with interchangeable elastic straps to increase airway space. It is made from a proprietary thermoplastic polymer that delivers superior impact strength to acrylic at a lower cost than polycarbonate. The EMA elastic straps come in 9 different lengths and 4 different strengths. The shorter the EMA elastic strap, the further the mandibular is advanced. 36 different straps allow for the most effective repositioning with maximum comfort. The EMA Oral Appliance is vacuumed formed. With proper care, the EMA custom lab-fabricated appliance will effectively treat OSA for years.

How do we become an Authorised EMA Lab?Myerson has a certification process that EMA authorized labs undergo to ensure high quality of fabricated oral appliances. If you wish to become an authorized EMA lab, please contact Skillbond on 01494 448474.

Material PropertiesThe EMA appliance also offers long-term stability due to the full occlusal coverage on both arches. The 2.0 mm thick pressure-formed bases offer orthodontic retention (resulting in no tooth movement) and maximum anterior tongue space because there are no projections in the palate.

Elastic StrapsThe elastic straps come in four levels of elasticity – soft, medium, firm and extra firm. Additionally, the straps are available in nine varying lengths. The flexibility of the elastic bands allow for individualization of your patient’s treatment, and the ability for quick and easy adjustments to provide optimum results.

Moulds range from flat to curved with either long or short ridge laps.
