Check Your Computer Before getting started with MyNursingLab, make sure your system and browser requirements meet the guidelines. Confirming that your computer settings are correct will ensure that you minimize performance issues once you begin using the program

For updates and more information, go to the System Requirements link, which is available on the mynursinglab.com site under the Support tab.

Register To get started using MyNursingLab, you need:

Course ID from your instructor A valid email address A student access code

Go to mynursinglab.com

1. Click on Register, Student

2. Enter the course ID that your instructor gave you

3. On the next page, select “I already have an access code” (if you bought a book in the college bookstore packaged with an access code) or “I need to buy access” (if you don’t have an access code you can purchase one online here)

If you have an access code, skip down to step #4

If you don’t have an access code, follow the next few screens to purchase a code.

First, scroll to find your text, and then click on the text cover.

Next, select if you’d like to purchase a code with or

without the eText (electronic text),

4. Accept the license agreement

5. Click on “No I do not have a Pearson Account” if this is your first

time registering for an online Pearson product, or “Yes” if you have already set up a login name and password for another Pearson product

6. Fill in the requested information to create your unique login name and

password. It’s recommended that you use your school email address as your login name.

7. Enter your student access code in the boxes at the bottom of the page and click Next

8. Finish filling out all the requested information – country, school, zip, security questions and SUBMIT

9. On the Confirmation screen, click on Log in Now under MyLab

Courses, or log out and come back later.

Sign In

1. Go to www.mynursinglab.com and click Sign In, and then click Student on the next page.

2. Sign in with the log in name and password you set up.

3. On the next page, you will find your MyNursingLab course in the middle section. Look for any “MyNursingLab” link and click on that.

4. On the MyCourses screen that opens up, click on the name of your course to open the course.

Navigate your course

The course will usually open in the Today’s View screen. You can switch screens in the course by clicking on the tabs in the grey navigation bar at the top of the screen. When you first open a screen, the Course Assistant pops up. The Course Assistant provides quick and easy access to demonstrations of the various functions of the page. With the Course Assistant you can take a 30- second tour of the tab, learn what notifications are and how to view assigned items, and take a navigation tour.

After using the Course Assistant, you’ll be able to easily navigate your way through the screen. Today’s View includes:

Notifications—appears on the left and includes several sections including messages, announcements, to-do items, alerts, and performance.

Calendar—appears on the right and provides an overview of assignments by date.

Completed: Appears on the date you complete and submit an

activity to the instructor. Items Due: Appears on the date an activity is due. Items Past Due: Appears if you do not submit an activity on or

before the due date. If you submit the activity after the due date and the instructor accepts your late submission, the past due icon is replaced with the completed icon.

Note: Appears on any date that includes a note from the instructor. Click the date to view the note.

Submitted: Appears on the date you submit a completed activity.

Explore the eText

If you purchased a MyNursingLab access code card with access to the eText, you can view the eText from within the MyNursingLab course. If you did not purchase the eText, you can upgrade and purchase the eText by simply clicking on the eText link.

There are several eText links throughout the MyNursingLab course – click on any eText or eBook link to open.

Your instructor may have set up an “eText course” for you to join. That will allow you to see notes your instructor includes in the eText. Your instructor will provide a course ID for the eText course. Note that the eText course ID is DIFFERENT from the course ID you used to join the MyNursingLab course!

To join the eText course, click on the Settings button in the upper right corner

When the Settings screen open, click on Join Another Course.

Enter the eText course ID provided by your instructor, then click Search.

On the next screen, click Join Course.

You can also use the eText without joining a course – you can use the eText in Self Study mode.

How to use your eText

Look on the left side of the screen to find the text material. Click on a Unit number to open the chapters. Note the Search button at the top where you can enter search items, like “diabetes.”

View recent searches To look back at your most recent search results, click on “My Searches”. Your search history will be displayed on the left-hand side of the screen.

Highlight Highlighting allows you to mark up the book as much as you want while studying. First, open up a Unit, then click on a chapter on the left. Click on the Highlight tool along the top navigation and select the text you wish to highlight. To show or hide your highlights, click the drop-down arrow to the right of the Highlight tool, and select show or hide highlights. Your instructor may also include highlights in your text, and these will be indicated in a different color on your screen.

If you need to delete your highlight, double-click the highlight and click the “X” button on the top right-hand corner. If you need to resize, double-click and drag to your desired size.

Take notes Note taking is a breeze in your eText. You can even include hyperlinks in your notes. To take notes, click on the Note tool, which looks like a thumbtack. Click the area on the eText in which you want to make a note. (Notes from your instructor will appear as green, and your own private notes will appear as yellow)

To delete your note, double-click and click “Edit” and then “Delete”. You can access your notes via the Notes Manager by clicking the drop-down arrow to the right of the Notes (Pushpin) icon. Notes Manager will allow you to search for your notes, export them to your desktop and print them so they can be used as a study guide.

Bookmark Use the bookmark tool to mark where you left off on your eText or mark an important page. Click on the bookmark tool to mark the current page you are viewing. If you want to view all of your bookmarks, click “Bookmarks” on the left-hand navigation of your eText, typically located underneath the Table of Contents section. To delete a bookmark, go to the marked page and click on the Bookmark tool on the top navigation.

Print To print a single page or two facing pages in an eText:

1) Navigate to the page or facing pages that you wish to print 2) Click the Print button 3) Enter settings in the print dialog box, as needed, and click Print.

Notes on printing You cannot print the pages which are restricted from printing. The print button is disabled for such pages. When printing facing pages, each page is printed on a separate sheet. Any external information added on a page, such as notes and highlights, are not printed. Only original book content on the page is printed. View Facing Pages To view two facing pages in the eText viewer, click the Single/Two Page View Button located in the toolbar. The facing pages will be displayed, and the navigation pane is hidden.

To display the navigation page In the facing page view, the left navigation pane collapses to the left. To expand it, click and drag the slider to the desired width for the navigation pane. The slider is shown below, and is on the screen at the far left, vertical-center of the page. Check your Grades The grades you receive on tests, quizzes or other assignments in MyNursingLab will be available under the Grades tab. Like the other course tabs, the Grades tab has a Course Assistant that can take you on a quick tour of the tab. In the Custom View of the Grades tab, you will see the grades you received on the pre and post tests in the Study Plans or Competency Checks.

In the Grades view of the Grades tab, you will see the grades you received on other activities in the program. You may need to click to open a content folder on the left to find your grades for an activity.

Note: If your instructor has assigned an activity, and you go past the due date before submitting the activity, you won’t see the grade you earned on the assignment until your instructor accepts your late grade.

Get some help From any screen in the program, you can click on HELP in the top right corner of the screen to view interactive help that is specific to the page you are working on. If you need technical support for MyNursingLab, click Support in the

upper right corner of the page. A pop up window will open with a link to Pearson Technical Support (http://247pearsoned.custhelp.com) and the information you

will need to supply to the support representative.

On the Pearson Customer Technical Support page, you can access support three different ways.

1. You can use the Search tool at the top of the page to see if an

answer to the problem you are having is already available.

2. You can click Ask a Question and, after completing the form, you will receive a response via email.

3. You can click Chat and, after completing a brief form,

you can chat with a live representative.

Note: If you “Ask a Question” or “Chat,” you will be given an Incident Number. This number is VERY IMPORTANT so be sure you keep a record of it.
