I am MYRTE and not very surprisingly my name is Myrte. When I drew a little kingfisher in 2008 I couldn’t stop drawing birds. From when I was a child I have had a deep love for animals and after travelling to other coun-tries - looking for bears, squirrels and hamsters in the wild- I realised that wildlife in The Netherlands is right in our own backyard. And the wildlife we have here is beautiful too. A bird world opened up for me. I had been a fashion designer for 10 years and this new passion came right on time. For MYRTE I can unite all my great loves: textiles and nature, together with design and interior.
Where ever I am I look for nature. I have lunch with the blackbird and I hear the jackdaws discuss heavy topics on my roof. I draw them like any other il-lustrator, but pencil and paper are replaced by a digital tablet and stylus. On my screen I colour the bird, feather by feather. I use many colours and one bird consists of thousands of strokes. It can take up to two weeks to finish a drawing. I am grateful that I can share my love for nature with others that are touched by it. It is my ode to nature. I only draw the subjects I meet. I dive into their world and write a little story about them, whether it´s a bird or a flower.
I do my best to design products that don´t harm the environment. The use of organic fabric for my luxury pillows is an example of that.With new prod-ucts, that is always what is on my mind; designing something that is as close to my beliefs as possible.

All illustrations are hand drawn. The drawing of the Dunnocks below is the result of more than 18.000 penstrokes. A glimpse of the drawing process can be seen on the right.

Porcelain platesA long awaited wish came true when Myrte found a way to transfer her il-lustrations and signature use of colour to porcelain plates. The mixed media illustration feature her bird illustrations combined with watercolour in bright colours. These plates are handprinted in The Nether-lands with the help of the best ceramists. These wallplates are available in 15,19 and 25cm.
Een lang gekoesterde wens kwam uit toen Myrte een manier vond om haar illustraties en kleurgebruik over te brengen op porselein. De afbeeldingen zijn opgebouwd uit haar vogelillustraties gecombineerd met aquarel in heldere kleuren. In Nederland worden de borden met de hand gemaakt met de hulp van de beste keramisten. Deze sierborden zijn verkrijgbaar in 15, 19 en 25cm.

Kimono’sWhat better garment to print patterns of flowers and birds on other than the Kimono. The use of silk for the kimonos makes for perfect and bright colours. Designing a pattern from an original kimono was a labour of love. Using Habutai silk, which used to be the only fabric used when making the tradi-tional kimonos, the crowning glory. Each kimono is handmade.
Welk kledingstuk is beter geschikt om van patronen van bloemen en vogels te voorzien dan de Kimono. Het gebruik van zijde voor de kimono’s zorgt voor prachtig heldere kleuren. Het was heerlijk werk om een patroon te maken uitgaande van een traditionele kimono. Met Habutai zijde, dat traditioneel gebruikt wordt voor kimono’s komt de kimono precies tot zijn recht. Iedere kimono wordt met de hand gemaakt.

PrintsAll illustrations done by Myrte are available on A4 and A3 size. Printed on wonderfully thick etching paper with inks that last 100 years. Or ask for your custom size. Lifesize or as big as your wall, anything is pos-sible. We always use the highest quality and environmentally sound papers and inks.
